Al-Bukhaari narrated in his Saheeh (4988) from Anas ibn Maalik that Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamaan came to ‘Uthmaan at the time when the people of Shaam (Syria) and the people of Iraq were waging war to conquer Armenia and Azerbaijan. Hudhayfah was alarmed by their (the people of Sham and Iraq) differences in the recitation of the Qur’aan, so he said to 'Uthmaan, "O Ameer al-Mu’mineen! Save this nation before they dispute about the Book (Qur’aan) as the Jews and the Christians did before." So 'Uthmaan sent a message to Hafsah saying, "Send us the manuscript of the Qur’aan so that we may make copies of the Mus-haf and we will return the manuscript to you." Hafsah sent it to 'Uthmaan. Then 'Uthmaan ordered Zayd ibn Thaabit, 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, Sa’eed ibn al-‘Aas and ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Haarith ibn Hishaam to copy out the manuscripts. 'Uthmaan said to the three men who were from Quraysh (the tribe of which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was a member), “In case you disagree with Zayd ibn Thaabit on any point in the Qur’aan, then write it in the dialect of Quraysh, for the Qur’aan was revealed in their tongue." They did so, and when they had written many copies, 'Uthmaan returned the original manuscripts to Hafsah. It was not a second copy of the Qur'an it was the same which Abu Bakr had instructed the scribes to gather, confirm and put in it proper Surah ayah by ayah. Abu Bakar had it than Umar than Hafaah the daughter of Umar, than Uthman borrowed to make a standardized copy and returned it to Hafsah
Quraish.'" Az-Zuhri said: "'Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah bin 'Utbah informed me that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud disliked Zaid bin Thabit copying the Musahif, and he said: 'O you Muslims people! Avoid copying the Mushaf and the recitation of this man. By Allah! When I accepted Islam he was but in the loins of a disbelieving man' - meaning Zaid bin Thabit - and it was regarding this that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: 'O people of Al-'Iraq! Keep the Musahif that are with you, and conceal them. For indeed Allah said: And whoever conceals something, he shall come with what he concealed on the Day of Judgement (3:161). So meet Allah with the Musahif.'" Az-Zuhri said: "It was conveyed to me that some men amongst the most virtuous of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked that view of Ibn Mas'ud." This is in tirmithi 3104 They could have hidden this if they thought that this would " expose" the book not beeing preserved, And what it says in the and some of the most noble companions of the prophet disliked the view of ibn Mas'ood. Meaning they thought was a good idea since the Muslims were spreading to the non Arabs the have a unified copy
One observation that occurred while I was listening: It seems like the Quran was put together by people who knew that textual Fidelity was important but didn’t understand why. They thought the importance like it was magic was that each word and letter was the same. Another words the people who put this together had a superficial understanding of the Christian and Jewish Fidelity to their texts. In regards to the Christian Bible we understand that we have 99.99% accuracy but the .01% that may or may not be completely accurate doesn’t bother us because we understand that the meaning Is what is of ultimate value. Second observation is that the Islam doctrine of exact letter for letter word for word of the Quran Is so important in Islam because they don’t have much to hang their hat on. In Christianity we have the prophets we have the miracles we have the history we have so much richness and abundance.

Muhammad failed in his task to make a Qur'an. When Jibreel said RECITE one cannot RECITE unless there is a written word to read. Yes, he could have recited Qur'an to others, but it would have been only a small group of people. And then Allah had to count on the memory of those in the small group? Only writing down the words could have caused Recitation.
