Amazing what you learn on this show. I had no idea there was even outside antennas to get the internet! All this information is really helpful for people.
I've been binge watching all of your vlogs this week, from the beginning, and I wanted to thank you for making them! I think this one revealed how much you are really hitting your stride in production, editing, and content. All of them are great, but this one has an especially good tempo, mix of humor, and length (shorter outtakes segment, for example). Again, thank you so much for the effort you put into these and sharing part of your life journey with all of us!
Great video, I wish I had seen it years ago, It cost me £s to learn the lessons you gave us. I lived in a big mobile home for 10 years, happy days. Sadly prostate cancer ended all that, I’m in the latter stages now, but still a happy chap. Do get yourselves tested! Thanks again for the vlogs. Peter
Hi Peter. Shaun had prostate cancer but they discovered it in time and removed it. His Father and uncles weren't as lucky though, So really sorry to hear that. Take care! xxxxxxx
Well that’s me all caught up. It was too much for “She Who Cracks The Whip” Lynne. Lol....very interesting and informative as per usual. Thanks for doing this vlog as I'm preparing to do the same for when I take delivery of my boat later this year. The magnetic stand is a great idea that I will be using. My biggest problem so far has been finding a SIM router with SMA connections - I contacted TP-Link who confirmed that one of theirs did but then said not to wire an external antenna to it, probably the most useless advice I've ever been given so thanks for your review of the Hughie Wah Wah router. I did see that 4 minus 1 were blocking their unlimited 'as much as you can' phone sims when used in a router - if you google carefully then there is a simple way to avoid detection - thanks again

So, we've got a TV antenna that came fitted with our caravan. Like you we always take digital media to watch on wet evenings and we've never even attempted to watch 'live' TV. Hey, Mimi 👋🏻 Thanks, and welcome 💜 It’s natural to be apprehensive and it will take quite some adjusting to, but just take each day at a time and accept that some days will be tough, but more will be rewarding and enjoyable 💜
We have almost the same setup on our boat Heron. Cheaper Huaweii router but same Xpol antenna. I happened across your vlog whilst setting up to repair the antenna after it finally got damaged by a low bridge last week. Our antenna was hard mounted to the catch board so when it hit the bridge something had to give! Just love the mag mount idea so just bought one from Amazon. Thanks (PS used to think Three was best but it's a toss up between them and EE for mobile broadband now)
Once again answered as my questions. My biggest question was what you were going to do in low bridges and tunnels. Well of course answered. That magnetic antenna is the bomb. S well boys don't look like ya all will have any trouble with the internet. But remember big brother is watching so no hanky panky internet searches. Lol
Nice set up, so much better than we get in Silicon Valley. Most of the time we can see over loaded towers, see the people we want to call and still cannot make a call. Also, internet is really expensive decent broadband is north of 80pounds a month
This is definitely the best setup. Used this for over two years now all over Europe too. I will be transferring to the same on our new boat this year. I also find that when the router picks up a 4G signal (it always selects fastest) that then proves to be unreliable (because of over used cellular mast etc) you can request the router to only select 3G and this works seamlessly as the 3G capacity for the cellular mast is in less demand. Great kit. Love the Vlogs. New boat shell halfway through fabrication with Jonathan Wilson.
Thank you, this is useful, I may not be a boater (yet), but for complex reasons, I can't get fixed internet in my house, so I'm using mobile plans, routers, dongles and having all sorts of trouble, so this advice is useful and will help me figure out how I can improve my internet, cheers.
we have just started watching we are finding it very interesting and love the boat . Hope to meet you at some point this year Rob and Val Narrow boat Voyager Named after Startrek
Trying to get a Wi-fi system on our fibreglass Thames cruiser. I’m hoping your system will work for us as it was the most informative I’ve found. Wish us luck!
We have basically the same setup router & antenna but we have plugged a standard home DECT digital cordless phone into the TEL socket of the router utilising the power of the router/external antenna to give us ultra reliable voice phone use where a normal mobile phone indoors does not work. Internet & calls every bit as good as any landline phone with broadband.
Foxes Afloat Yes they are round and made from Oats, John Prescott loves them, next time you are in Tunstall @ westport Lake there is an Oatcake boat that sells them, p.s. You are right about the Peak Forest Canal, Fantastic, I ride from the famous disappearing water point in Macclesfield to Buggy Basin and back every day 40k, it is nice to see your little history lessons that come with your vids, I will probably bump into you soon lol, keep up the good work.........
I have the same router in my boat, has been great for months, but watching Jonos video gave me the idea to do away with the power adapter and run it direct from a 12v feed which should be even more efficient and in my case it does away with another item plugged into the mains sockets.
Great vlog as usual! I echo what you say about going into the shop. We have a mifi, that is locked to 3 and we were paying £25 a month for 300gb ... not actually enough for 3 of us, so I phoned them about an all you can eat SIM for £22 but they said it would only work in their phones. We went into the shop and we're told they are not supposed to say, but it works just fine ... We got one, it does! Job done
That's what we got. I asked them and they said it would work fine in the router we had. Definitely the best deal out there at the moment. We've also got a back-up EE SIM because we'll be CC'ing, and there's bound to be places we can't get 3. Hope you're all well and not getting too canal-sick with all this stormy weather! xxxxxx
@@FoxesAfloat we have phones on virgin as an alternative but 3 seems pretty good everywhere so far. We're good, just a bit blown about! Looking forward to better weather, getting out more etc. Bet you're so excited about launching!
I've been catching up on your vlogs thanks so much for this one. I've a touring caravan and had a maxview roam router fitted. I've struggled to find a data only sim that works for me .. I only want something for up to a month at a time .. we only go away for three weeks in a year and then lots of weekends locally where we can get either free wifi at the caravan park or use the mobile phone data. I hadn't realised some of the sim cards are locked to specific devices so that perhaps explains why I've had some issues. Thanks again for this it's very helpful. Dx
Very interesting as always. ☺ Going completely off piste ; I had black venetion blinds in my last house. They really show the dust ( I'm sure you've already noticed) so can I suggest a paintbrush ( obviously new and clean ) . Just a thought 😉 I bet you've already researched and found something else 😂
Hey, Christine! Ha ha! You know what I'm like with my research, We're already looking to change them over the summer, but yes, paintbrush is a great idea! xxxxx
Thank you very much for this we was wondering how we would get Internet strong enough fora work at home situation. One question, how did you get the cables from outside to inside?
Just come across your channel and this very informative video for which I congratulate you for cutting out the waffle and focussing on the subject. Can I ask generally how well this works moving around the country, are there many dead areas and does it maintain the connection when navigating? Do you have reason to believe there are better options for router/provider since you posted this video? Thanks again, Peter
Thanks, Peter. It worked really well. There were areas of lower signal, but that's the same with any phone and is dependent on the signal strength wherever we were. The same router is still available and I'm not sure if any are better. We were very happy with this one :)
Hello guy's , great video again. btw, you get better speeds than I do at home, normally 37 down and around 5 up. There is a saying "piss poor preparation = piss poor performance, that theory has been proven and rewarded with your research . Any chance you can record Shaun's infectious laugh, so I can use it as an incoming message alert. Paul in Lancashire .

Our antenna was hard mounted to the catch board so when it hit the bridge something had to give!
Just love the mag mount idea so just bought one from Amazon.
Thanks
(PS used to think Three was best but it's a toss up between them and EE for mobile broadband now)
3 all the way for us. Not lost signal yet (fingers crossed!) x
Fna, fna, fna, fna, fna. OMG. I'm so happy!!! A new vid!!! Yippee from the States.
Hey, Carolyn! 👋🏻
Thank you! #fnarfnarfnarfnarfnar 😂 xx
Wunderbar,! You 2 are getting rather good at this 😉....great info as always
Hey Colin 👋🏻
It’s turning into a full-time job 😅 xx
Great info - thanks guys... You two are awesome .. Looking forward to when splashdown comes around.. :-) regards from NZ
Hey! 👋🏻
Not long till launch 🤗 Ha ha! So excited. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻 xx
Once again answered as my questions. My biggest question was what you were going to do in low bridges and tunnels. Well of course answered. That magnetic antenna is the bomb. S well boys don't look like ya all will have any trouble with the internet. But remember big brother is watching so no hanky panky internet searches. Lol
Ha ha! ‘The Bomb!’ 😂 Thanks, Rusty! xx
Nice set up, so much better than we get in Silicon Valley. Most of the time we can see over loaded towers, see the people we want to call and still cannot make a call.
Also, internet is really expensive decent broadband is north of 80pounds a month
Wow! That is expensive. We pay £29 for 100mbps landline broadband, and £22 for unlimited mobile 4G Internet.
And thats in the homeland of computer wizardry stuff? How expensive, wow.
Well done! An Interesting and informative vlog!
Wishing you the very best and happy sailing.
Thank you.
Hey, Ed! 👋🏻
Thank you so much! xx
Hi guys
Yet another great informative vlog you made it easy to understand for a non technophobe person that I am
Look forward to next vlog
Hi Ron 👋🏻
Thank you! xx
Great internet info, thank you for doing so much research 💚💜
This is definitely the best setup. Used this for over two years now all over Europe too. I will be transferring to the same on our new boat this year. I also find that when the router picks up a 4G signal (it always selects fastest) that then proves to be unreliable (because of over used cellular mast etc) you can request the router to only select 3G and this works seamlessly as the 3G capacity for the cellular mast is in less demand. Great kit. Love the Vlogs. New boat shell halfway through fabrication with Jonathan Wilson.
Jonathan Wilson is a great boat builder x
Yes. We had our first boat “nb.Escapology” built by Jonathan too.
Great vlog, excellent information next vlog please about your new sofa.xx
Hi, Sue! Thank you! He he... More sofa next time then :) xx
Thank you, this is useful, I may not be a boater (yet), but for complex reasons, I can't get fixed internet in my house, so I'm using mobile plans, routers, dongles and having all sorts of trouble, so this advice is useful and will help me figure out how I can improve my internet, cheers.
Glad I could help!
we have just started watching we are finding it very interesting and love the boat . Hope to meet you at some point this year Rob and Val Narrow boat Voyager Named after Startrek
Hopefully, once we can all move about again! 👍🏻
Trying to get a Wi-fi system on our fibreglass Thames cruiser. I’m hoping your system will work for us as it was the most informative I’ve found. Wish us luck!
Best of luck!
👍🏻
Shaun does a very fine Mr Cholmondley-Warner! 👍
Haha! He does.
I like the Oatcakes at the end !
Oatcakes?
Foxes Afloat Yes they are round and made from Oats, John Prescott loves them, next time you are in Tunstall @ westport Lake there is an Oatcake boat that sells them, p.s. You are right about the Peak Forest Canal, Fantastic, I ride from the famous disappearing water point in Macclesfield to Buggy Basin and back every day 40k, it is nice to see your little history lessons that come with your vids, I will probably bump into you soon lol, keep up the good work.........
P.S. when i see your Outtakes at the end, Oatcakes always pop into my head lol
A great informative Video Guys.
This is exactly the video I needed to see. Great info. Thanks.
You’re welcome Ian. Thank you xx
Great vlog, just i wanted to know, thank you very much 😊
No worries!
I have the same router in my boat, has been great for months, but watching Jonos video gave me the idea to do away with the power adapter and run it direct from a 12v feed which should be even more efficient and in my case it does away with another item plugged into the mains sockets.
Hi! Yeah, did you miss the bit where I said we powered it from a 12V source? 😂 (11'20") xxx
@@FoxesAfloat For some reason first time I watched it I thought you'd said 12v adapter. :)
popuptoaster Ah... We have a 12v socket next to the router 👍🏻
Very informative, thank you. 😃👍
No problem 👍
Exactly the same setup I have in my caravan. The router is excellent. Turning it off for a minute once a week or so helps with speed Ive found :-)
Yeah, we reset ours every few days. Also, the omnidirectional antenna isn’t exactly omnidirectional
Love your videos, and gives me a smile and brightens my day thank you 🙏
You are so welcome
So informative! ❤ (even though this is an older vlog)
Glad you liked it!!
Great video guys! Coming along nicely 😊 have a great weekend ✌🏻
Hi Joe 👋🏻
Thank you! Yeah, we can’t wait to get her launched! 🤗 xxx
Fan bloody tastic guys! That info helps me out a lot thank you :)
No problem. Thanks for watching and following us 👍🏻 x
Another brilliant info-vlog! :)
❤️
Yeah, not long now 🤗
Very useful guys. I'm considering getting an external aerial at some point, because where I am heading it will probably be a weak signal.
We were blown away with the difference it made! xx
Some really good info guys, well done!
Cheers! Thank you for watching and commenting :) xx
Dx
All the networks do Data only sims 🙂
New to the channel and liking the videos. Looking forward to many more 👍
Thank you and WELCOME! 👋 I hope you like what we do :)
Great video guys. Excellent info on tech
Cheers, Strongy! 👍🏻 (Cool name)
Nice one lads. Some good advice. cheers.
Cheers. Thank you x
Really informative. Great advice. Thanks. ☺
Thank you, Carole! 👍🏻
Very interesting as always. ☺
Going completely off piste ; I had black venetion blinds in my last house. They really show the dust ( I'm sure you've already noticed) so can I suggest a paintbrush ( obviously new and clean ) . Just a thought 😉
I bet you've already researched and found something else 😂
Hey, Christine! Ha ha! You know what I'm like with my research, We're already looking to change them over the summer, but yes, paintbrush is a great idea! xxxxx
Very informative. Great vlog guys.
Thank you! 👍🏻
Have the same one. Needs a reboot a bit too often for my liking but does the job
Sounds a bit like me 😂
Hi Guys, excellent videos. I'm new to boating and these videos are so helpful. One question from me where did you purchase the magnetic stand?
Found the link on another comment below :)
In the description
Great retro intro!
Haha! Thanks 😂
Thank you very much for this we was wondering how we would get Internet strong enough fora work at home situation. One question, how did you get the cables from outside to inside?
Drilled a hole in the roof and ran the cable above the ceiling.
Thanks for the info etc We shall use this to set up our Camping Trailer
👍🏻
Hehe! I would make a fortune! xx
This is brilliant lol and dead helpful! Probably a stupid question ha but would I still have to run me inverter to power my router? Cheers guys! 😊
If it’s not plugged into a 12v adaptor, yes 👍🏻
@@FoxesAfloat Cheers guys!
