"May I Ask What The Filming Is For? Do You Have Permits For It?"

  • For this audit , I collaborated once again with ‪@sidewalks22‬ to document outside this jewelry store. We had a mix of interactions ranging from some of the merchants asking if we had permits to record, to an individual who will be shipping out for the Navy in early Jan. One customer going into the jewelry store wanted to give a shout out to the world in the name of peace 🌎✌
Would love to hear your thoughts on if the jewelry store passed or failed the audit.

Why do most foreigners in America think they can't be filmed in public without their permission? Is it because America is one of the few countries on Earth that allow freedom of the press and freedom of speech and they haven't learned that yet?

It really depends on the country of origin. But people are as ignorant as they come, without a doubt. In for example, Poland you can record, and you can publish that, but you can't show faces/any way to identify them without permission from that person. Which is weird. The only time you can show them without permission is and I quote law here: "if the recording person has the sole purpose of "public dissemination of information, opinions or thoughts", and therefore his recording constitutes a contribution to public debate" So for example, a RUclipsr can show faces of police officers that are breaking the law in that context. Still our auditing movement is in its infancy, we have one big channel really. Our law is just stupid mostly compared to US and it's Constitution..

    • @scudderville

That's pretty much spot on. As permanent residents, many immigrants won't necessarily learn American civics unless, and until, they begin studying for naturalization. And from immersion into our culture.
Any who've emigrated from the major western democracies will likely have some knowledge of American liberties as their native nations have some similar rights and freedoms.
I'd imagine those from the eastern European (NATO) countries lived within remnants of the old Warsaw Pact tyranny. Especially anyone older than 30 years who might have had some Soviet education.
Within another generation for these new arrivals their children will be as American as the rest us.
Of course those who emigrated from the Asia-Pacific or the African continent will need to experience a greater cultural change. Fortunately the vast majority of legal immigrants, especially younger are eager to learn and adapt.
Obviously there's always a few who just remain ignorant.

@@fahadfaisal7855 I know about it. The thing that people go inside federal building and film, thinking that they have the right because it’s public and therefore have all rights. That is a misconception that if it’s public, it’s not private, whichh is complettery wrong. Beside sidewalks, all building, included federal’s are first, a private place. The difference is that it is open for public. For exemple, you start selling stuff and you rent or buy the property and you spread the products. You want to sell so you open your place to the public. But it still private. Imagine someone comes in and do the heck he want because he saying it’s a public place. You would want to trope him out and you would be in your rights to do so. But lot of people can’t understand that it’s not because it’s a federal building that you can do the heck you want. They buy it with our income tax but we don’t have a saying on that. Cops are paid with our income tax but can be arrested if we do wrong. But some stupid individuals think they should be of the hook because they think they are their boss. I hate to say it but I can tell those that are not citizens because you must learn about our constitution and laws to become a citizen so either people have short memories or selective memories or are just plain stupid. I’m so glad that you do what you do, people need this education. The example you set is wonderful! You video PEACEFULLY, enjoying your freedom. Next time someone asks what you’re doing….tell them you’re peacefully enjoying your freedoms and if they want to know more, they need to actually need to READ the constitution.

Once again...if you don't to be on camera then don't walk up to someone with a camera. Or stay home and lie in the fetal position because there are cameras everywhere.

Foreign business owners need to understand where they are. Maybe it is illegal to film in public where they are from, but not here in America. I love the "where is your permit" angle that many triggered individuals take.

It still amazes me of how many people think you need a permit to film in public when the Constitution of the United States gives you that permission. Good job as always.

I say this was a pass. They were curious and only asked unartful questions. They didn’t threaten to call the police and at worst, expressed their desire that you stop recording. Nothing wrong with that.
