Ya, I paid $12.00 for mine about 12-14 years ago. Lives in trunk of car, and still has not rusted the edge. Absolutely great for batoning, and price is awsome.
1055 is tough stuff. I sharpened the swedge into a false edge, and replaced the plastic grips with wrapped paracord and a lanyard, and it feels pretty good in hand.
I made a knife in this exact style in my forge a couple weeks ago out of leaf spring. Turned out well and I like the knife. the design is more suited to combat/defense than wood or food processing due to lack of belly in my opinion.
My review of the CS GI Tanto, the most frequently requested CS knife for me to review. It is a jack of all trades, a knife born to be beaten and abused for only $30 or less.
Idk about you guys but this is prob my fav channel for knife feedback. I gotta say that i often find myself on the fence a lot of times trying to decide between two or three diff blades and deciding which of the three i want to buy...and most often the feedback and information i find here is always helpful and tangible. And its also quite refreshing as well that the channel dont get out of control with the fancy schmancy stuff. So keep up the good work
I didn't need it, but it was marked down and I bought one out of curiosity. I always liked that due to the overall design and handle material, it matches with the original katana machete. I think they're out of production - I missed my chance. I think the G.I. Tanto is a nice knife for a kit bag, the car or to customize. It's flat, so it's not bulky for it's size. And it just looks kind of cool.
I used this knife during a hiking trip and cut several pieces of bamboo to make walking sticks for me and my team mates. Easy work! King of beaters indeed.
So ready to pick up a couple of these. I have a few bowies already yet really need a workhouse power one I can beat up and put through rugged paces like this one. Gorgeous knife.
I have this knife in the back of my cars along with an aluminium baseball bat. I needed to cut some firewood and I used this knife. It worked fine you almost cant hurt this blade. I watched a RUclips video with a man taking this blade and cutting a car door. He used a hammer to cut several inches of the door. "King of Beaters " good one.
Excellent review. I have had this ugly knife for about two years. It is just what you said, tough, easy to sharpen, can do multiple tasks, has a descent sheath, and does not cost much. Not my primary knife but a good back up that will take on anything you throw at it, By the way its pretty light in in the pack sack
I've had two The first one was an early one made in Taiwan and the blade was not staight I sold it when I was short on cash The second one is made in China And its blade is straight I may buy another one I really like mine
I have had bad luck with cold steel knife the sk5. I was stabbing wood with it and about a inch of the tip of blade just broke off. I replaced it with the Gerber strongarm and have no issues with it so far.
I think Lynn Thompson was pretty much the founder of the Americanized tanto shape with the introductions of the original Recon tanto and votager tanto. Correct me if I'm wrong
Is the top hand guard important for the rentention of the knife in the sheath? Would it make a difference when it would be removed for better forward grip hand position? I dont own that knife, thats why Im asking.
Compare to the Marine corps Ka Bar knife. Besides being combat knife Ka Bar was also multi purpose camp and field knife. Army knife of the day was a combat dagger based on the m1 carbine bayonet, dissatisfied with it because It's lack of usefulness like the Ka Bar.
one of my favorite knives right there bro! i have 2 of em. the first one i stripped and put a tiger patina on. one of my first yt videos lol. great review as always!
In Germany this costs 32€ now, tho just a month or two months ago it was about 45€. I bought mine sometime about 2014 for 55€... But UK is very expensive yea :o
Great review. This knife reminds me of the Glock fixed blade knives. They are great tools. They are ugly but they work. I am not sure which one I would prefer, the Glock or the CS. I lean towards the CS. Although the Glock is a very close second.
Could you explain what the benefits of the sub hilt tanto style tip are supposed to be? Like, is the shape suppose to stab into things better? Has anyone ever tested wether the tanto would penetrate deeper than a drop point? Or, is it suppose to be just more durable? Is it more durable? I never tried that style because I assumed it is difficult to sharpen.
traderjoes I've heard pointy tips like on a dagger are more likely to stick into ribs etc and get stuck, whereas the tanto ramps over and continues inward. I don't know how much truth there is to that, I'd take it with a grain of salt. I'd imagine the main benefit is tip strength. Some side by side penetration testing would be great.
Tantos (at least American tantos, there are 2 types of tantos) are not great at slicing due to their lack of a belly but they do pierce well so if your self defense style involves thrusts and stabs then a tanto would work great
Great review as always brother. I don't own one of the CS GI tanto's, but Ive seen some extreme hard use vids, and I'd agree, definitely a hard use beater blade! BTW, that vampire slaying steak, is killa! 👊😂
Don't give shit what anyone says paid 20 buck's 2 year's back. Beat the life out of it and and it looks like i pulled it out of box yesterday after soap and water. And it will take a razors edge if done right. So if peaple bitch about this knife and the price then good luck to you. Also the shealth kicks ass.
Easily, they use little hex bolts. The grip on the scales sucks but a bit of skateboard grip tape in the recesses does the job. The bonus of keeping them on is that it keeps the knife nice and balanced.
I am waiting for this review for long time . Nice Review BUT.... BUT.... BUT... BUT I am expecting some throwing demonstration . After all it famous as throwing knife
bro I have this knife Gi tanto is good knife I keep my knife sharp you less keep it sharp carry back up knife just in case but combat and survival it a great really what call drop point tanto tactical type lot people where on there right side but I like it on left side draw it with my right this knife can take a beating I drop it like 5 time ground like side walk and tar mat and slam it in 2x 4 still keep good finish now hand can be checker with solid iron or if hand brake 550 paira cord thumb up on your video want to say my Gi tanto cost 23.00 good prize yep budget

WeAllJuggleKnives do you prefer this knife or the bushman bowie
As far as a camp or survival type knife, the Bushman Bowie.
WeAllJuggleKnives thanks
WeAllJuggleKnives hey dude. Whats the grind on this knife? Hollow or saber? I cant tell

One of my favorite knives! Tough, versatile, and handy. You can easily go wrong with more expensive knives that you'd hesitate to really use hard.
I didn't need it, but it was marked down and I bought one out of curiosity. I always liked that due to the overall design and handle material, it matches with the original katana machete. I think they're out of production - I missed my chance.

I saw at least 3 hard use tests for this knife here on RUclips. Proven design.

Bought one years ago with the nylon sheath the new sheath looks to be a great improvement. It is a good knife.
Nice review! This is my edc work knife and my favorite thrower. Great value, hard working and takes a beating. Love the channel, have a great one!
Got my son in law one of these ! He was tickled silly ! Wore it every day for like a year ! He was 82 Air Born !
I bought one 4 years ago.
I broke the tip, but due to the size of the knife. I was able to grind out a new tip
I have had bad luck with cold steel knife the sk5. I was stabbing wood with it and about a inch of the tip of blade just broke off. I replaced it with the Gerber strongarm and have no issues with it so far.
I bought one for urban self defense, but I took the scales off and wrapped it with 1100 paracord, handle feels much better.
I think Lynn Thompson was pretty much the founder of the Americanized tanto shape with the introductions of the original Recon tanto and votager tanto. Correct me if I'm wrong
Lynn did bring the American tanto
I wish they would make it in a clip point or drop point as well
Is the top hand guard important for the rentention of the knife in the sheath? Would it make a difference when it would be removed for better forward grip hand position?
I dont own that knife, thats why Im asking.
I think it is, but I don't recall :]
@WeAllJuggleKnives thanks for the information 😁
I've had 3 of them love them all easy to get creative and take an angle grinder to it and redisgn it
Very impressed with your tent stakes. You could sell those online. I'd buy them. Well done.
oh me again just ordered another as it was /is so good and I just want a new one!
I put wilson tape on the handle because it's slippery as fuck. Works awesomely! This is my back up knife in my back up kit!
Price considerd, the GI tanto is God of knives
5:29 Not sure why that was so hilarious, but I found myself actually laughing out loud.🤣
...amazing 😂
it is simply the best value knife made. period!
How come nobody can ever say what the notch is for at the bottom of the blade??

In the UK you'll pay around £45 for this with is around $60.
35 at blades and bows january 11 2018
Pretty sure you would go to jail for having this in the UK.
In Germany this costs 32€ now, tho just a month or two months ago it was about 45€.
I bought mine sometime about 2014 for 55€...
But UK is very expensive yea :o
Got one and use it camping..just can't carry it around here in the UK.
Any plans to round the sub tip off? I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like when done.
I have one mounted on my plate carrier, left side, point up
im back brother and with a new channel. better videos and stuff. love your blade info

I heard this tip was designed to be able to pierce armor.. Its a stabbing tip
The yokote tip exists to provide strength to the main tip, known as the kissaki. The yokote also gives a little extra bite when swung sideways.

Great review on this knife bro i always enjoy this channel 💪👏👏
the good things about tanto edge is bread to fight and easy to sharpen
🍞?
Can you do one on the Cold Steel Outdoorsman?
Great review, thanks. I have one myself which I use in the back yard occaisionally. Just wondering where is this knife made. My guess is Taiwan?
He said at the beginning it was in China
I really love this knife...the only problem i had is that the scales came lose(easy fix)

Maybe Taiwan was a mistake from some websites since CS uses Taiwan a lot.

what about the aranyik pra
Nice design but they need to work on the sheath! Nice review brother
i love this tanto
This or Schrade schf37?
the best all round knife
it funny I was going to do my review on this knife to day to lol
is it a knockoff if it has china written on it?

Nice vid. What pants are those when you are stabbing that log?
They are Ultra Force brand, usually listed on Amazon as "vintage paratrooper fatigues."

"zombie de-animator" 😂
What does gi mean
A GI is a soldier, but originally it meant Government Issue. It became slang, "G.I. Joe."
@@WeAllJuggleKnives wow it seems glock knife is not better than it
I have bouth , the Tiwan made is better, but bouth increadible
This is not a camping knife! It's designed for military type uses! Hint! Hint!
I see this as a combat knife........
Surely the name gives it's intended purpose away. GI (general infantry) meaning that this is made as a fighting knife or tool of wartime.
Caleb Able ....Actually G.I. stands for General Issue.
texaskidzuk government issue. God damn.
GI = Government Issue
It doubles as a speer or war hammer, by taking the scales off, yoll see
Great review. I have this knife. Great sheath and mediocre at all jobs.
Brutal
Better late than never haha
why dident you throw it WHY DIDENT YOU THROW IT!?!?!?!??!
jk good video again
For throwing knives, I prefer longer/heavier blades, easier to throw them harder and stick them. I know you were kidding, but answered anyway! :D

Really? I find it quite attractive for the price. Feels good in hand too.
Surago I would have to disagree. That thing is ugly as hell and feels pretty awful in hand.
