Im watching!!!! He leaped to his perch today for the first time EVER!!!! his leg clenched and he did not land well.... I still yelled yeeeey good boy and praised him...is there any possiblity to teach how to land with out clenching feet? Love your videos guys!!!!
Oh these two have just got it, just smoothing out communication and finding what trick it'll take for Mona to figure it out. I honestly think the tree idea would be the best for Mona to learn gradually on her own.
Thanks for the upload and sharing with us all. I've been trying to finish a book about making parrot toys safely but, I've been so busy with life. One of them to a brief explanation...take an office chair with brakes on the wheels so it doesn't move around the room. Then remove the seat, stick healthy branches (know your wood please research a must some are deadly!) in the space where you removed the seat. It will give a parrot so much enjoyment swinging from the branches then just replace the branches as necessary. Looking forward to seeing your next post love you all!
I don't think this Macaw ever learned to fledged. I feel from my experience that you have pet stores and breeders selling parrots. Then people clip their wings way too early. Please educate the public so that they aware of this. I learned the hard way many years ago before I learned through research how important that this. Thanks again for sharing this video with us all!
Nice video.. Nice insight... She balanced himself when she slipped from perch but still manage to climb... Why this macaw was restless? Thanks for your video...😀
Recently i read a research article saying birds too have right leg or left leg behaviour. Just like humans right handed or left handed behaviour. What your view on this.. You watched all birds closely.. Is this true?
Totally agree that's why the last African Gray had its issue! It was obvious to me what was going on from the beginning. I've been training parrots for years but, not for food but for love. It's much harder than a food reward however, I have a true bond that's precious. Love these guys for all that they do!
Also with dogs and cats! You can actually do little "science experiments" (or look up science experiments) with dogs and cats to see what their favored front paws are.
@@ginaalwaysavip1177 I hear you! I am doing the same, I do give rewards, just not all the time. My little Mr. Hamish (Chestnut Fronted aka Severe) Macaw -- largest of mini's) He is a southwing, southpaw birdie hahaha.
Amazing vid as usual I just got home from school so happy I can now watch your vids your my fav RUclipsr and I wish good health to ur birds and family!!! 💜💙🧡💛💚❤
I have a 20 something year old Amazon that I have never seen fly at all. She’s a perch potato. She’s even fallen off the tree perch trying to lean as far as possible to reach other branches. Is it possible she’ll never fly? I try to hold her and encourage her to flap her wings with movement, but she won’t do it.
What is FR? I heard it a few times at about 4:30, and I feel like it's in something I either don't have or the pre-master class...but I wanted to be sure - and ask what it was?
Frequency of Reinforcement - so basically FR1 means the bird gets 1 treat for every 1 behavior asked. FR 2 means the bird gets 1 treat for every other behavior performed... so the bird waves, gets a treat with FR 1. The bird waves and spins and gets a treat with FR 2.
So welcome and I’m gettin a bird pretty soon so hopefully that leads to more some other time thanks so much for making these they help more then you think 🤜🏻🤛🏼
We talk about it in our paid courses where you get more examples and background info www.familyfriendlyparrot.com and yes, we teach these often. We could definitely put one on in Seattle with enough interest!
@@BirdTricks I'm going to put an announcement in a few of my local bird groups and see what kind of response we get. Stormy Girl, Oliver Blue and I want you to come out!

I love watching you guys! I missed the opportunity for the masterclass in WI! 😔 I need help with my African grey, he will not fly he just jumps out of the cage! And that makes me so nervous since he has slightly chipped the tip of of beak because he fell on his face. He does not use his wings at all.

Do you have any advice for a small bird thats afraid of the stick? The clicker doesnt seem to bother him, but I'm not sure how to teach touch training if he's afraid of the object that i want him to touch😅
Reward the desired behavior. You want the bird to stay calm with the stick around, so go in baby steps : Approach the stick and as soon as there is a start of a fearful reaction ( bird turning head to look at the stick ), stop and wait that the bird calms down. Click, remove stick and reward. Repeat several times. The bird will learn "if I calm down, the stick goes away and I get a snack". You will progressively be able to get the stick closer. I think the blonde lady made a video about training a parrot out of fear of an object, hold on I will try to dig it up and edit... here is one video about desentization ruclips.net/video/IAt91PT_OOU/видео.html
That is exactly my problem too. I know my amazon can fly (if something scares her she can fly. But instead of flying she slides down her cage, walks to her play stand and climbs up. She thinks she is a fireman (lol) I am afraid to toss her into flying in case she flys into a window and I would be afraid to take her outside to toss her because with my luck she would decide she can fly and take off.🤪
I have a macaw that I adopted she has a permanently broken foot and need help figuring out to handle her where she isn't freaking out she doesn't trust herself and her balance she wants to hold with her
Its my birthday love me i need attention. Cuz im needy lol. Also. Great vid guys love it very helpful! Edit: sorry im late watching :( i have failed as a human. lol
They shouldn't be following a clicker, the clicker acts as the marker to tell the bird it did the correct behavior. You can learn more here; www.familyfriendlyparrot.com
question could she learn to fly by watching other Macaw fly by her when she on a perch. maybe like fellow the Leader? just a though since there were other Macaw there? Still awesome Teachers
Whenever wing clipping is mentioned, my heart bleeds. My country has very strict rules and does not allow unnecessary medical treatments on animals, but wing clipping is allowed even here.

What a beautiful and sweet bird, just like her owner.
I’m so glad you guys did this video. I had forgotten some of what you guys told me. Proud bird mom!
Mona is beautiful and such an amazing bird!! You have done so amazingly well with her ❤❤
The most beautiful thing is to hear the sound of your laughter during the filming .. that makes the work enjoyable 🌸❤️

Perhaps, but it really has to be her decision and she has to gradually build her muscles.
What is the breed of mona?
Looks like a harlequin macaw(blue and gold/greenwing hybrid).
Oke ty!
Have you ever trained a bird that had no food/treat motivation?

That bird's moving her feet and moving around as if her feet hurt! Especially her left foot, i think you might want to get her feet checked out!!!

Awesome job!! 👍
