2024 Chevrolet Trax ACTIV Review: Best Value CUV

- When I get a press loaner, I usually mention the price out of the ridiculously high pricing of today’s market. The 2024 Chevrolet Trax was the opposite as the ACTIV top trim was under $27k! Although the price is relatively low, the features list was surprisingly long.
The Cayenne Orange color stood out and although it was nice, I prefer the Cacti Green on the Trax. The front end’s Camaroesque design, gave the Trax an aggressive look to it. The grille design changes slightly when you go with the ACTIV trim and gives you black chrome lower element. With the ACTIV trim, you’ll also get the black 18” wheels that match the mirror caps and the window framing.
Once you get inside, you’ll experience accents that are unique to the ACTIV trim. The first is the seats that have the ACTIV wording embroidered into the headrest. That is then followed by a Artemis Yellow stitching on the seats and on the door cards. The yellow stitching unfortunately doesn’t follow through on the steering wheel.
One of the more impressive features of the Trax is the fact that it comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto for all the trim level. I’ve reviewed cars costing twice as much that didn’t have wireless connectivity, so I’m happy to see that it is offered in the Trax. I was surprised to see that the gauge cluster wasn’t as customizable. If you wanted to see important info like tire pressure, it would take up the entire screen and not simply a small part of it. Same went with the temperature gauges.
Under the hood, the tiny but mighty 1.2L turbocharged engine delivered 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Although it may not sound like a lot of power, the Trax moved like it was significantly more. The 6-speed was great at moving up the gears but did suffer a slight delayed when downshifting for highway passing. The brakes on the Trax had a great pedal feel and great performance getting the CUV stopped.
Overall I’m extremely impressed at the value that the 2024 Chevrolet Trax has to offer. With a starting model price of under $21k, I have a feeling I’ll be seeing many college parking lots filled with them.
Bought this exact version but with not sun roof, I’m in love! Already put 3000 miles on it haha
Congrats and sounds like you're getting some miles in! What are you loving the most about it?
@@Revmatchmedia dude the 11 inch screen, 10 way seat axis, driver confidence package, remote start. I can keep on going but the end is this thing is amazing for the price point!
get rid of that pos 😂😂😂
Since you own one, can you tell me how it eould fair for long trips? I'm looking for a new vehicle and really only drive short distances, except for 3 or 4 times a year when I drive from my home in northern Ohio to middle of Florida to visit family. I drvie straith through about 16 hours with stops for food and gas over 1000 miles one way. Will the Trax Activ be able to handle that type of travel?
@@dhscsaI was wondering that 2. How it does on 16 hour road trips. How engine holds up
I saw this review was 28 minutes. I really love this car and have one on order. I'm slightly obsessed with it. But no way am I watching a car video review that's 28 minutes. 28 minutes later...dude, great review! Great pacing. I was never board, and before I knew it, the review was over. You've just increased my obsession for this car. Thanks for such a great review.
I saw this long comment and no way am i reading all of it. Then I read it and thanks for the awesomely kind words lol. In all seriousness, thank you for taking the time to not only watch the video but also comment. So I gotta ask, what trim/color/options did you go with?
How long did it take to get after ordering and are you liking it?
My only comment is to not listen to all the comments. A great and genuine review.
Thanks for the kind words. It’s the internet, I know not to take things too seriously lol. Are you looking into getting a Trax?
I'm a recently single mom with 3 teenage girls... My whole driving life has always had a Dodge Durango.... but since im switching gears after a divorce and in desperate need of a new vehicle with low funds I decided to try Chevy. I test drove a 2024 Traverse and yes I loved it but the PRICE TAG AND PAYMENTS did not love me 😅 so I humbled myself and looked at the Trax Active... I fell in love. I will be picking up my new Trax Active tomorrow. Thank you for the in depth review you made me want to buy this mid-size SUV
Thanks for watching and congrats on your Trax! My family and I were going to go with a Trax but at the time, inventory was non existent so we went with a Trailblazer that's also been really nice. What color did you go with?
Just bought one. I’m a big guy 300+ lbs and it was surprisingly roomy.
Congrats! Yeah I was surprised to see how much space was inside and it was comfortable. Did you go with the ACTIV trim?
@@Revmatchmedia I did. Love it.
It really makes a difference on trim level. I like the aggressive looks of this one.
The ACTIV is definitely the trim to go with. It has the better front end.
I like rims on active. I hate rims all rest.
@Revmatchmedia is the orange color the same as 1RS?
@@juliegill9322 It's the same color no matter which trim you get.
Im just worried about long term reliability on the 3 cylinder engine. Really love the design though. Also not having rear cupholders is very strange
Yeah, it’s weird because in other world markets the Trax is called a Chevy Seeker, and they get rear ac vents and USB ports and a rear armrest. I don’t know how much of a price difference it would make for them to add all that for the North American versions🤷♂️
@@jrock8233they’ll probably add it next year
You will not have any reliability problems with the 1.2 l 3 cylinder turbo. My best friend is a master mechanic and told me the most important thing you can do with this vehicle is to change the fluids way before General motors tells you to do it. The oil should be changed with a 100% synthetic oil. The transmission fluid should be changed at 30000 miles. The timing belt will not need maintenance until 150000miles if you change the oil on a regular basis. This is a d*** good Vehicle and you're getting a bang for your Buck.
Great video! I saw another comment that said edit out the “yeahs” but it honestly didn’t bother me at all. I can see where that comment was coming from and you might want to work on your flow of topics on the video, but it was great. It reminded me of Joe Raiti from Raitis Rides when he first started out. The reason I watch him (and now you) is because of the authenticity you both posses. I don’t want to watch a review that sounds robotic. Great job! I subbed and I’ll be following 😊
I appreciate it and thanks for watching and the sub. It’s the internet and i don’t let things get to me lol. Are you looking at getting a Trax?
@@Revmatchmedia I am thinking about trading in my 2019 camaro RS for a more practical Trax 2RS in black. I haven’t fully decided because I love my Camaro…but I’m thinking about it 😊
@@erronford9274 I was looking at all the trims and the ACTIV is definitely the way to go. The 2RS interior is nice with the red trim, but the wheels go up to 19”. The price increase of replacement 19” tires is insane right now and the added sidewall of the ACTIV 18” setup will cushion the road more.
@@erronford9274 i'm doing the same thing lol just waiting to be able to test drive it at the end of the month
I'd be interested to know what you think about it.
I had a 2021 and a 2023 Trax and love it won't get a 2025 because of the exterior colors and it's longer. I really like the olde model
It does have a manual shifting mode! Put the shifter all the way back and then use the button on the grip side. It is an odd system but it does have it.
I looked at the cevy trex when i was looking for a new car, it just didn't have the greatest reliability rating; i stuck with mazda traded in my mazda3 in for a mazda cx5 preferred trim. The price and equipment included really impressed me about the trecx
The CX5 isn’t a bad choice either. The Mazda interior finishes are incredible.
I've had 2 Trax never had a problem.....
STORY OF THE YEAR! MY DUDE!
I’m waiting for the green one 🙌🏼 by the way, very nice review, so natural that’s the way people talk not like the androids around here or at the dealership!
Thanks for watching! My family had an emergency need of a car after ours broken down. We can’t get a Trax for another 2 months so we’re going up to the Trailblazer RS. Congrats on that green because it looks so beautiful.
Love this color🎉 I just gor the Trax LT last week and love it 😍 mine is black. So pretty 🤩
Congrats! Was it hard to find one? When my wife and I were looking, there was no inventory at the lots and we had to wait for a couple of weeks to get whatever they offered.
I have a 2rs and i love it after 500 miles it changed now haters will not like this it is a good car.
We went with the Trailblazer because of availability and we're loving these Chevy CUVs
I honestly think this is the most sporty looking small SUV that isn’t a Lamborghini. And so damn affordable! Locked one down and getting it in a few days! Im so excited!!
Some people are just negative and pick everything no matter what it cost! Misery loves company! I’ve looked at a lot of reviews and they all are pretty impressive! Yes I grew up during the Ford Chevy Dodge Daz!! Yes most of them are made overseas now! I believe that’s where the prices are so effective! Honestly GM backs it up! That’s all that matters!
People will complain about anything. Give them a million dollars and they'll get mad you didnt give them 2 million lol. The Trax was definitely a favorite and I keep recommending it to everyone. I ended up going with the Trailblazer because I couldnt find any inventory and I needed something immediately. With that being said, the Trailblazer RS that I got has been super impressive and a lot of fun. Thanks for watching!
OK, you love the front end design........me too.
ENGINE COMMENTS: An I3 is smoother than an I4 without balance shafts. This 1.2-liter I3 is a long-stroke design (a.k.a. undersquare), which used to be unusual for a modern engine; the Silverado’s I4 is also. With a long stroke you get more torque because a larger crankshaft offset gives more leverage (a simple concept). If you’ve got lots of torque, and many tranny speeds, the lack of HP seems forgivable. I expect mine in a few weeks, so we’ll see. This 1.2-liter engine will have 17% the displacement of the one in my 20-year-old Silverado 2500HD (which has a Tonawanda Big Block). Remember, “horsepower wins races, but torque gets work done.”
You’re going to love it. What trim/color/options did you go with?
Activ in Caveman Orange (well, it's called something Orange). @@Revmatchmedia
The Activ is definitely the best trim. That orange is awesome and I wish they offered the Colorado in that too.
@@Revmatchmedia Woulda bought a Colorado if it wasn't so big. Had some S-10's back in the day. Used my 2500HD for snowplowing, but now have a service do that. Why won't GM make a small pickup? Jeep PU is way too long (so awkward looking from side!), and Maverick is in short supply, so I bought a mini-SUV.
Have you received yours yet? Any thoughts on it that you’re willing to share? Thanks!
I want to order one, but the longevity of the 3 cylinder is what I question……love the looks though. Also strange is the top trim being active has smaller wheels than the 2 RS …. I think the 19’s look better.
I had the same concerns when we went with the Trailblazer with the larger 1.3L but i've been amazed at how well that little thing drives. I do recall reading the 1.2 and 1.3 engines got some award for reliability through the Buick Encore model.
Chevy did a great job with the Trax, great price. Chevy going to sell a s**t load of them.
I already sold 2 of them during the week I had the loaner. One for my neighbor and one for my wife! They definitely have a winner here.
theyre junk 😂😂😂😂
@mattnorman5241 why they junk. I shouldn't buy one. I was thinking about getting one. Cars so much. This about best price gonna get for vehicle.
@@chad647 its cheap for a reason its has a 3 cyl with is a joke plus the quality of gm is the worse in the car industry
@@mattnorman5241 have you had a chance to drive one? Don’t let the price fool you because the interior quality of the materials are better than some cars I’ve reviewed that cost twice as much. As far as the engine goes, if you never opened the hood, you’d never realized it was a 3 cylinder. It isn’t supposed to be a sports car with a v8 under it. If you want that, go get a Tahoe or suburban. Having driven it for a week, Chevy is definitely going to sell a bunch and I know this because my wife’s car died and no one has Trax available because they’re selling before they even hit the lots. I actually ended up getting a trailblazer RS which I had to fight for before it even came into the dealer.
Love the 1RS because I like analog gauges
Yep
Great review of the Trax!
I know this is off-topic, but have you reviewed the 2023 Nissan Rogue?
Thanks! I haven’t had the chance to review the Rogue. I did have a quick drive at the Pathfinder and if that’s any representation of Nissan, I wasn’t impressed at all. You’re better off with RAV4, CX5/50, Mitsubishi Outlander. I bought a Trailblazer RS and that thing has been so incredible.
Nice car but that button on the front door anyone can open it. I don’t like that. Awesome review. Thanks. 😊
Thanks for watching. The key has to be near the car in order for the button to work.
Just Ordered an Activ. I liked it better than the Honda HR-V.
Congrats! What color did you go with?
Great review!!
Thanks for watching. Are you looking at getting a Trax?
I used to own a three cylinder motorcycle. It was a 1979 model Yamaha.
That got me thinking...
Wonder if they could stick a two cylinder Harley Davidson V-Engine in a car? Would you still get those sweet vibrations and exhaust note? Just wondering, lol.
anything is possible with lots of money lol.
Nice video man was thinking about trading in my 2022 hrv 24000 miles for one of these don't know yet still what u think where u are is very nice and green ❤
Thanks for watching! I’ve recently driven a few Hondas (Civic, CRV, accord, pilot, and ridgeline) but not a HRV. With that being said, I’m super impressed with Honda’s offering and personally, since you already own the HRV, I’d keep that. Trax inventory was difficult for me to find about 6 months ago. It was “take what we’ll have in 6 months or you get nothing.” My family did go to the Trailblazer because we got a great deal we couldn’t pass on.
I'm just curious because I just bought a mazda cx-30 turbo premium with awd and I have all those features for only 30k, am I missing something?
If it's a 2024 CX-30 Turbo Premium, you're missing about $7,000 to that price tag and you got a hell of a deal. Please direct me to your dealer lol.
@@Revmatchmedia its a 2023 that had 2000 miles on it so they sold it to me as a "certified preowned". I'm just wondering if I should have waited to test drive a trax
@earlstudios nope, stay with the CX-30 you got because you robbed that dealer! Everything about the Mazda is going to better except for the price. Now that you’ve taken the price out of the equation with that deal, you have the better option. Only major thing I dislike about the CX30 is the lack of touchscreen for the infotainment and the simple options for the gauge cluster screen.
Probably not a long term keeper. Changing the timing belts is an absolute PITA. If you trade every 4 or 5 years you should be good to go.
Don’t tell me that, I decided to go with the Trailblazer 😔. Thankfully I got the extended warranty on it.
Change the oil every 5000 miles regardless of what the oil life monitor or the dealer tells you
What color are those seats..gray/black?
@@tedrik1346 it the JET BLACK/ARTEMIS YELLOW option when you build it on the Chevy site which is the gray accents and not the full black interior
Why did you say you wished it had a rear camera? I thought it does when you back up?
I don’t recall where I said I wish it had a rear camera because it does have one. I said I wish it had a front and side cameras for their surround HD system.
Pay attention more.
Orange color on activ the same orange color on 1RS?
Yes, they are both Cayenne Orange Metallic
Great review.
Wow, I want one! Too bad you never mentioned the price...ha
I haven't had my coffee yet and when I saw your message, i was wondering what video i forgot to add it. Then I saw which one it was and couldnt stop laughing! The Trax was a good one. If you really want one, get ready to fight for it and give yourself some time and hope for some luck. We tried getting one and were told it would be about 3 months from everyone that wants one and based on inventory. We ended up getting a Trailblazer since we had our family car fail and needed something quickly.
What is the difference between active and R2?
Grille is different and the R2 gets 19" wheels. Compared to the ACTIV's 18" wheels. I prefer the ACTIV's more aggressive's grille
Is there an app that will let you unlock the Trax remotely?
I had to check their website and it said this: The myChevrolet Mobile App remote technology comes standard with the 2024 Trax.I use the app for my Trailblazer and it is really helpful.
Yes the chevrolet app
Yes it does
Great video
The Chevy Trax would be a great vehicle if they'd put in a 4 cylinder engine. That 3 cylinder thing is a deal-breaker for many buyers.
Not for me. I owned a 3 cylinder Honda and turned out to be one of the most reliable vehicles I ever owned. Glad to see a 3 cylinder come back.
I keep watching reviews waiting to hear the bad news on such an inexpensive vehicle. So far I haven’t heard anything that has turned off to it. For the price I can make a lot of allowances.
It’s so good! I drove it for a couple of days before I checked the paperwork. I saw the price and I couldn’t believe it.
dont buy gm
@@mattnorman5241 Thanks for watching!
@@Revmatchmedia i didnt watch this trash stop promoting gm junk keeping people in the poor house

Thanks for the review. Just a little constructive criticism. Way too many "Yeahs and Likes". Way too much babble. Condense and be more concise. But you have what it takes to be good at this. Just keep honing it.
Video isn't the nightly news. 😂
Slow down so your brain can come up w words. We don’t need to hear the price so many times. You gave a lot of helpful info but I never heard what I wanted to know…do the passenger seats (3) fold flat for storage and can it tow anything at all?
Passenger seats do go level at the lowering point but then go up once it starts getting near the headrest. You can see it in the Chevy Trax site’s gallery. Chevy hasn’t provided any towing numbers.

Our 22 GMC Yukon does and it’s an SLT not even a Denali.
Point of correction: IT'S CALLED CHEVY TRASH, not trax......
1.5 litter paired with a turbo can never pass 30k miles before the engine blows...
Its actually a 1.2L engine and have read people already putting over 30k miles on them.
@@Revmatchmedia why not just a 2.4 naturally aspirated engine with a 6 speed automatic transmission? It would have been the biggest blow to Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Ford, the kias of the world combined.......
We both know the car is nice in and out, but wouldn't last.... The engine in that car is a pile of junk .......you know that ......
I think chevy missed a really good opportunity to make a difference in the industry...... I don't think you guys ever had a board meeting as to what engines are placed in those cars. If you did, I guarantee! someone would have said, WRONG IDEA. No 1.2 turbo engines in these cars.

It don't work that way in this industry.( You give the people what they want, you make millions)...... give them what you feel they want, STUCK ON YOU!!!!
