He has such a gentle and calm manner and is very easy to listen to . Although I have no natural curiosity about architecture of any sort, I found what he had to say interesting. Thanks!
I’m Belgian and i grew up in West- Germany and i currently still live there. I love Daniel’s way of thinking. His thoughts on how some historical places get literally erased/ demolished just to be replaced by (insignificant) hypermodern new stuff to fit in today’s world, instead of trying to preserve the true beauty of their past history is so true. Daniel is one fine and authentic young man who genuinely cares about tradition and the elements of past times. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Greetings from Germany ☀️ PS. I‘ve lived In a house that was actually bombed in WW2. The destroyed parts of the house were replaced by new elements and down the hallway on the floor the architects integrated memorials to always remember us of its history. That’s an impressive way to preserve the beauty and ugly of the past.

Great interview. He is a down-to -earth and a thoughtful person. His perspective on architecture, development and specifically North and South Korea is very mature and reflects his deep thinking and knowledge. The host has great conversation skills and her voice is beautiful. I am glad i started watching this channel. The concept and content are new and interesting. 😊
It is not necessarily being interracial kid. You might live in a country where has so many regional languages and has its own national language on national level. You can speak more than one language by that circumstances. Like myself, I can speak Javanese (Mother language), Indonesian (National Level), English (on academic and professional environment). Of cource a lil korean from its k-drama. Lol
@@achmaddenny1979 I speak Dutch (native tongue), English as second language that i learn(ed) in school, very basic German as 3th language but i'm still learning German in school, A bit Korean too since i'm learning it as a hobby XP But i can't speak Indonesian even tho i'm half Indonesian X.X My mom never taught me the language and i think even she can't speak fluent Indonesian... I really enjoy your channel. I would love to see a video of 1/2 Koreans from Korean fathers. 20 years ago I struggled with my Korean identity. Having a Korean name but never taught Korean language. I'd be interested to hear similar stories to mine.
As a mother of two half Korean teenagers, I am very pleased to find this channel and watch this interview. The interview was very well done and particularly Daniel’s approach on North Korean architecture is very thoughtful. One distraction is the camera angle. Why doesn’t it capture both of them in one frame when it’s necessary? It’s strange to keeping showing one person when the other is talking.
I'm a canadian living in Frankfurt Germany i watched the video with his mom and the hospital in Hanau city where she met his dad happened to be the same hospital where i hade my three kids...I'm also a korean drama lover and am learning korean at level two...
Wow what a thoughtful and wise young man. I totally agree on his views on North Korea and not just taking over and assuming that South Korea has all the answers.
Daniel Architect, his so gentleman.. This was the first vlog, I've seen him. Then, I begin to like him. And the love story of his mother and his father. Very interesting. I admired her mother..
Thank you for this interview. I loved Daniel's answer about urbanization and how it might be done in the North Korea. Preserve history...via historical buildings..etc...is important!! Hope this mindset will be spread. :)
Grounded n certain calmness in him. You are who you are, an advantages between two culture, homeland is where you make your home. One needn’t choose. Where you set roots that’s where you belong. My sister married to a German too. My nephew n you look a bit alike.
Im also a half german half korean 😊 I am so happy to have found your channel! I am soon moving to Korea for a year to connect more to the culture of my mum and to be fluent in korean ~ I am very excited but also scared of not connecting to people/Koreans.. Is it possible to make a video sharing all advices you have for half Koreans?

He seems like a really nice guy and almost criminally handsome. I'm German and I didn't even think about how he stems from two countries that have experienced/are experiencing separation until I got to that part in the interview. I have an East German and a West German parent, so I'm a little bit of half/half :) Which doesn't result in any major problems or discrimination of course, I (growing up in the West) just got kind of angry when people started saying stupid things like "East Germans are lazy and don't work", or that they wouldn't go to any universities in Saxony, because they have "ugly accents", stuff like that. Especially the thing about the accents annoyed me, because some of those classmates who said that had rather thick northern German accents, but somehow felt like their way of speaking was more proper.
Great program! I am a Korean and have a biracial daughter who is now 33 years old by a Caucasian American husband. She had identity crisis when we moved back to the US. I will forward this channel to her. Just one thing- The back ground music was a distraction, it didn’t help at all.
Daniel's saying reminds me of 피맛골, which was really old area where people used to go there and drank Korean traditional liquor-막걸리. Former gov just demolished the whole street and there's only a sign left which designate there once was this street. And I apology for regarding 혼혈인 as foreign in my mind. Idk why but I did it and I feel srry when Daniel said it did hurt his feeling.
Thanks for the comment. Just the purpose of our channel to help us understand each other and share these stories that maybe we never knew before. we're glad you watched :)
It is interesting how much you look like a cousin of mine when he was younger. His mother is American of Scottish, Welch, English and Holland descent. His father is Cree (Native Indian/First Nation Canadian) and French. My Uncle went to Korea 10 months before the Korean war. He evacuated during the war and returned to Korea for the rest of his life. Because of him our whole family is very interested in South Korea. One of my cousins married a North Korean adoptee and had 4 daughters. Another cousin adopted 2 Korean children. We have a multi racial family. Some others are Black and white and Arab and white. I think it is good to know our roots and learn the cultures of those countries of origin. I study family history and try to learn the cultures, and histories of each generation going back in time. I am glad you are looking into your own too.
yeahh~ similarly in singapore, it has taken decades for the government to realise that older, historic parts of singapore should be preserved rather than redeveloped >
Everyone going crazy about someone who can speak 3 languages when some of us over at Malaysia just regularly breeze through it Malay - national language, learn in school English - professional and working language Chinese dialects\mandarin - mother tongue And additional languages we learn along the way
I certainly respect Daniel’s protectiveness of historical architecture. The pressure to modernize and erasing culture is SAD 😢. I absolutely support his outlook on easily transitioning the families and people who want to preserve history. Great Content and Information.
I 100% agree with Daniel's answer on North and South Korea, using West and East Germany as an example. I was 19 when the reunification happened in Germany and I always thought back then, and still think today, that Western Germany has overrun Eastern Germany. His answer actually is very wise, and human. BTW: I have a Greek, Croatian background born in Germany :)

Well, our brain is a very simple tool and likes to create categories like boxes, where it can put things into. Race is one of those boxes. I will quote an article from NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC here: »All non-Africans today, the genetics tells us, are descended from a few thousand humans who left Africa maybe 60,000 years.[…] Beneficial mutations tend to be passed on to offspring and to spread through a population. […] In regions with less sun, lighter skin allows the body to absorb enough UV rays to synthesize vitamin D.« Source: www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2018/04/race-genetics-science-africa/ After sharing this information we can hopefully leave »the idea of races« aside for a moment. So what we can actually talk about is »culture«. The cultural background of our parents and the culture we grow up in. Those things, also our native language(s), have an influence on us. Like how we think and how we behave. And certain ways of thinking and behaving are associated with a certain region. Personally I don’t believe that people want to change their personality to completely fit in somewhere. Instead most people want to fulfil their need of belonging, since this is a basic human desire. But you can also belong to a group of friends, your family or your partner, to have something to call »home«. This is also a more healthy approach, in my opinion, since you can not change the people around you. But at least you can decide how much credit you want to give to their opinion in the future.
There are more Asian people than white people on Earth. If you really wanted an Asian wife so bad, then go to Asia or at least to an Asian majority area.
