Thank you so much! This worked perfectly apart from it going from 150FPS to 120FPS in the first moment of the test for some reason. It's completely smooth and the graphics card isn't overworking itself pointlessly. I think this is the first big game i've ever seen that doesn't allow you to set the FPS you desire coupled with having a shitty VSync that doesn't seem to work properly
I just had to comment on this. Absolutely amazing! After years of just suffering through this and trying 100s of different methods, finding annoying compromises and workarounds. This is what did it! I finally can fun a smooth RP stream and not get triggered constantly by the damn micro stutter! You are a saint my dude thank you so much I'm going to show this video to everyone I know :D
Thank you for this video! This is the only advice that helped me. My setup is a ryzen 7 7800x3d and a 4070 super and I was getting frustrated trying to fix this issue. I knew it wasn’t a mechanical issue because I can run other games smoothly. It seemed like the game was bugging due to the 188 fps cap because I would usually be around 187 and then it would drop to low 100s causing a stutter every 10-15 seconds. All the other videos saying to lower your graphics settings, etc did absolutely nothing. After following this I have absolutely no stuttering in fivem and I’m running the highest setting with a steady 140-150 range.
Thanks alot mate, that really helped. Its a shame that Rockstar dont even Fix the Issue but its kinda funny to see thats one of the rare moments when ur PC is to good to handle the game.
Thank you very much! Just finished new PC build, and after some tests this problem with GTA V occurred. Tested everything from Cyberpunk to Hogwarts Legacy and The Last of Us and etc. Everything performed like it should. But performance of GTA V was driving me nuts.
Thank you, I never knew this about the Rage Engine, I have a 180hz monitor and G-SYNC + V-SYNC which was causing the FPS to go to 180 and sometimes go up and down and hit that rage-engine FPS limit, causing a micro-stutter. I can not thank you enough.
Thank you, you really helped me. I have been seraching for this problem, but always got people teching how to optimize the game, but I knew my pc could run gta 5 with no problems, it was something else and you did it. Thank you!
Upvote, thanks! Yes this was the issue and limiting FPS to 180 did the trick, no more microstutter! *edit* 180 limit still gave occasional microstutter with jumps to 200~ FPS intermittently. Lowering the limit to 150 removed all occasions of microstutter.
DUDE you are a legend, i have been playing at half-vsync for like a year now because the micro stuttering was driving me insane. i recently had to install GTAS again and i was like no way there isnt a fix for this. Your video helped massively, thank you. when i tried to fix it before none of the other fixes helped.
Thank you so much. I've had this problem ever since I got my new PC, (which is way better than my last, might I add), like 2 years ago. Weirdly, I didn't have a problem with the Online Mode, but now I can finally play Story Mode again. It was unplayable with the stuttering
Thank u very much. Before changing PC i had around 100 fps and i had no problem with shuttering now i had 180 almost all the time and my game worked like in that benchmark. Changing max FPS to 150 fixed the game. Thank u
So I tried this and still get stuttering (story mode). I noticed a few things in your video you do not mention that may also play a role in fixing the stuttering. I see you are in 'Windowed Borderless' mode and not Fullscreen. I see you have VSync disabled and MSAA + NVIDIA TXAA on. What about all the other settings like shadows, occlusion, reflections, etc? Don't those also factor into making the stutter go away? I haven't seen anything about fixing the stutter except everyone pointing out to limit the frame rates in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Here's my specs which should be sufficient: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB RAM, RTX 4070, GTA 5 installed on M.2 drive playing at 1920x1080.
This is with default settings. It is not difficult with a PC in the last couple years to achieve these results. Vsync is not necessary if you cap your frames below your refresh rate. GTA5 has a well known limit of 187.5fps due to Rockstars RAGE engine. You can look at several sources online and reviewers have firmly established this. To your questions-they don’t create stutters (unless your PC is severely below requirements which yours is not) but can reduce your frame rate. I have that processor with my old setup and can say stutters did occur but it was an AMD AGESA BIOS issue related to onboard TPM. That problem was exposed by a RIOT dev with TPM write failure event viewer entries in Windows. At the time, AMD’s solution was to either get a dedicated TPM module or upgrade the BIOS part AGESA to 1.2.0.2b or later (this was 3 years+ back). I could only validate the dedicated TPM module as a fix. I later moved to Intel. You could be in the same boat as I was or it’s something else. But the stutters people encounter in GTA due to reaching this fps limit is a random 1-3 second stutter. Anyway hope this helps.
In my case i had low cpu and gpu usage, what worked for me was turning off Vsync, and set a FPS target on amd control panel to match my monitor frequency. Hope that helps anyone. CPU Ryzen 5600, GPU RX 6650 XT.
Seemed to have fix my issue on my Lenovo Legion with a rtx4080. Thanks! Knew it shouldn’t be stuttering like it was, but also kinda thought it could have been a fault of windows 11 since my windows 10 desktop doesn’t stutter.
My story mod runs just fine all maxed out but when I go online it stutters like hell even in a solo lobby. Idk why it's doing this game worked just fine a few months ago when I was playing it. I just downloaded it again story works fine but online stutters. Also getting 300mb download so idk it happened after I played once human it lagged like hell on any setting then after I deleted it and tried to play other games they started lagging the same even tho it's never done that. I got a 4090 GTX TI whatever 16gb ram and i7.
My character is so bad that every time I move it's like someone's controlling it it's it's so delayed can yall help me it's my movements and car movements
I found a good why off doing it and its takes 2 second you can put a refresh rate cap to like 120 and then put vsync on and you will just have it locked at 120
It's one way but you're still missing out on extra frames if your PC is capable of handling it. Not to mention vsync adds more delay. There's also no reflex tech. The fps limit is a known hard limit within GTA 5's rage engine. Ideally you want to get as close to the fps limit without triggering any stuttering. As I mentioned in the video, Rockstar could simply code the in game frame limiter but they won''t do it. Their resources are likely all on GTA 6.
my textures are failing to load then 2-3 min game exits to desktop/ happens to RDR2 and ONLINE as well except the game wont crash there but all the animations and Interactions just freezes. please help me guys im playing in my RTX 4090 with i9 13th gen 64 gb ddr5 ram
i am still facing micro stuttering. I have set a limit to 90 fps. My spec are i9 14th gen 4070 140 watts. Please help. I even tried reinstalling and it works fine for some days and then again starts to lag.
I've had Ryzen 7 5800X and Nvidia 1060 3GB graphic card and I got about 180fps all on low, but it was stuttering allways while driving and sometimes while shooting. I figured it was about a bottleneck gpu so I bought a new gpu, but this time AMD RX 7800XT and sadly it did NOT fix the issue of my stutters. The only thing that changed is that I get more fps on higher settings. My gpu and CPU don't go over 60%-75% usege while playing fivem on max settings. I've tryed a lot of videos to fix this issue, but there are just none. I've tryed limiting the fps in AMD GPU game panel to 144 and it did not fix the stuttering. If anyone has a solution please help me in the comments please. (Just to add I've 16GB RAM 3200Mhz.)
Can’t figure out my issue. Would pay someone to come in discord and help. 4090, 32gb of ram. And randomly my rendering started to stutter and I haven’t found a fix on RUclips. It’s been 2 months with no FiveM.
I would really appreciate it if you could help me with my 6700xt I can't understand what's wrong with my pc the microsuttering is getting on my nerves.
You can try upping the values to 155 or 160. During gameplay, I saw a stutter once with 160 due to video rendering. Since I couldn’t replicate it, I chose a more conservative 150 fps. The fix is really to have an in game frame limiter.
Bro the game is shuttering in 4060ti in 1080p what can be the problem , is this problem coming in gta 5 story mode after gta 6 announcement ? If ye what is the solution as my gta online is absolutely fine but story mode is shuttering continuously
Did you watch the video? I explained the solutions both for GTA5 single/multiplayer and FiveM. You need to cap your frame rate because of the GTA5 engine limit. There could be rarer possibilities like the CPU. What have you tried?
Is this with a default Windows? As in not a custom ISO or heavily modified Windows? If it’s not custom or heavily modified, provide some more info eg specs, drivers, etc. I’ll see if can replicate..
Thank you so much after 2 years after searching this worked.

Does it still work if I just change the global settings and leave all the files on "use global setting"?
You can do this. However, all games and apps will be impacted by this change. If you have a good GPU, you will lose performance in those games/apps.
"videos missing something" yeah like how to do it with AMD
As an alternative for AMD, you can cap your frame rate with RTSS.
Bro the game is shuttering in 4060ti in 1080p what can be the problem , is this problem coming in gta 5 story mode after gta 6 announcement ? If ye what is the solution as my gta online is absolutely fine but story mode is shuttering continuously

The RAGE engine limit applies to any GPU. You can use an app like RTSS to cap the frames to 150.
