I was on the hunt for cons of owning one of these, and this one guy made a huge deal about how long it takes to break down. "oh you may be able to set up in 5 minutes, but it'll take you 3-5x as long to break it down, which is a huge pain" You just did it in 2 1/2 minutes. Setup took like 2 minutes. I cannot imagine spending 5 minutes on setting up and breaking down camp could possibly be an issue haha. Thanks for the video, I saw what I needed to see :)
The little metal pieces that you didn’t know what they were for are used to “lock” in the struts on the inside in case of windy conditions or just for safety. Getting mine soon thanks for the video!
Thanks!! We kept getting partially folded up like a taco in a super windy area. That is VERY useful information. Might be the most helpful comment yet!
The two bars that you said you didn’t know what they are for, are strut locks. Only needed in high wind. Pop ‘em on the struts inside the tent to hold that lid in place.
I was hoping to see video of your dogs getting in and out. Are they able to use the ladder? We also have two dogs that we would like to bring along and I've wondered how I would get them up there.
Hi Michael. Good question! We have not brought our dogs. We have a special needs dog who has lost mobility in his back legs so the dogs stay home with our son when we camp. They used to go everywhere with us. We miss them when we are gone. I think you’d probably have to lift your dogs up. I don’t think they could go up the ladder on their own, but maybe if they were trained.
Sam, you are right. The video was basically done in one take so you can see how easy it was. It has exceeded our expectations. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. And sooooo much mor comfortable than the ground.
You said that you leave your sleeping bags inside when folding down, is that working out ok? I seen online it says you can’t do that with the condor XL.
Well thought out design. The only drawback I can see is if you are at camping location for a while and need to use your vehicle kind of hassle to pack the tent up each time.
Right. It’s very easy and quick. I get the point that if you had a basecamp for a period of time it would be convenient to not pack up if you wanted to explore elsewhere by car. I can see that. For us, that has not yet been a problem.
Thanks for the video, much appreciate your time and effort. A few questions to you if you don't mind me asking, based on your experiences so far: 1. There is no front facing wind deflector for it on the roof rack, how is the wind noise while driving and do you experience a drag? 2. How dark is it inside, does it keep light out or does the light bleed in? 3. How do you like overall build quality and where is it made? ( other than the strain you experienced to mount the shoe bag in rails 😅 ) 4. Mattress - does it bottom out on body load and do you feel the platform when sleeping in ? Thanks again for your feedback.
Great questions. The wind noise and drag are minimal and not annoying at all. Inside it keeps light out! Really nice. You can close up the whole thing. Overall build and quality are excellent. Mattress is thick and does not bottom out. It's very comfortable. We are really happy with it. Thank you for watching!
LFD Minimalist Overland. Simple and meets all the weight requirements. The factory rack’s profile was too low, didn’t fit the bolts, and it didn’t hold enough weight. Thanks for watching and asking!
We love it. We were hesitant because it’s so expensive but now that we have it, I wouldn’t want anything else for going out in the 4Runner. In particular, the speed to set up and tear down, the comfort of the mattress, the space it offers, and the light system. It’s very well thought out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@jbroadventures5656 I put in an order a little over a week ago and got my tracking number today. Should be here in a few days. Total from order to delivery will probably be in the 10-14 day range for us.
We can. There is a small part of the tent that rubs the tailgate and we had to put a piece of tape there to protect it. We could solve the issue if we just moved the tent forward a bit but we’ve never taken the time to do it. Thank you for watching and asking your question.
We have the 2021 4Runner TRD PRO with the "cool" looking rack. Hard to fathom, but that "cool" rack is only rated for a max of 110 lbs! Question: If you were able to purchase a RTT with the knowledge you now have, would you go with the Condor XL over a lower profile unit like the Falcon XL? My wife and I (no pups) are on the fence between the Falcon XL and Condor XL and would love your insight. Thanks!
Good question. We looked at the Falcon after getting your comment and would still go Condor for the headroom, space and rain over hang. It’s also a little cheaper. If your rack is rated for 110 lbs, I think you have to replace it regardless (which we did too). The only downside of the Condor is it can’t fit in my garage, which is a bummer and I didn’t consider that in advance.
We had rain, wind and snow. Everything held great and kept us dry. There was condensation but we think it was exacerbated but the space heater we had on for a little while because we were so cold. The wind was rough. It was like the sound of a train coming and then flap, flap, flap. Also, the part of the tent that unfolds and isn’t attached to the car would lift during the wind storm. However, a viewer told us we didn’t have it secured properly so we don’t expect that to be an issue moving forward.
@@TechMadic awesome! Thanks for the reply. I also want to ask how you have it mounted? Are you just using roof rails? If so which ones? They would have to be tough enough to support the dynamic and static weight of the tent. Also have you carried any extra gear on top of the hardshell?
All great questions. We had the factory rails but they were too low profile for the bolts and they didn’t hold enough weight. We didn’t consider this in advance, which was a bummer. We went with the LFD Minimalist Overland Roof Rack. Very simple, supports enough dynamic and static weight, reasonably priced. We have not carried additional gear. Our 4Runner holds everything we have needed with room to spare. The other thing to consider is that with the rooftop tent, the 4Runner no longer fits in our garage. Another thing we didn’t think about in advance.
Not sure but you can get all the dimensions from the Roofnest site. Just search Condor XL. Site says “interior dimensions are 93x74.” It's plenty of room for two adults and a child or two adults and a dog (or two). We love it.
4:09 where your hand is, 1. undo the awning Velcro corner. 2. feed the shoe bag into the slot bending the rest of the bag around the corner until fed into slot... its much easier.
Good video guys. I was curious about your rack mounting system. have a sexy ole school 2000 4runner and i know my 21 year old cross bars aren't going to be strong enough to support the falcon or falcon xl. Thank you : )
@@TechMadic Thanks! Do you happen to know how much height the rack and RTT add above the top of the 4Runner? Trying to determine if it will fit in my garage.
The entire rig from ground to top of the tent is 7.5’. It does not fit in the garage, which wasn’t something we had considered. The lowest profile RoofNest is the Falcon.
Would you happen to know the height of your rig with the tent on top? Ground to max height... I'm about to pull the trigger on this tent, but it's going to be a close fit into my garage. Thanks for the video!
It’s about 7.5 feet. It does not fit in my garage, which is something I didn’t think about in advance. Also, the factory roof rack that came with our vehicle wasn’t tall enough for the bolts. There is a ton of room. Four adults, probably not. Two adults and two young kids, probably fine. Two adults and two dogs, totally fine. Thanks for watching!
Why do you think that? It’s a very secure ratchet strap system. Been driving with it for a couple years now and there is no cause for concern. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Truth! I’m (Julianne) 5’ 6” on a good day and it’s a reach. However, I have set up and put down by myself a couple times. It just takes a little longer.
One consideration is giving your family room to grow. The XL will be fine for the three of you for years to come. I think they are only $200 difference so the larger may be a better ROI in the long run.
I was on the hunt for cons of owning one of these, and this one guy made a huge deal about how long it takes to break down. "oh you may be able to set up in 5 minutes, but it'll take you 3-5x as long to break it down, which is a huge pain"

You can leave the shoe bags attached permanently, so you don’t have to struggle with them each time you set up. Just fold them up when you pack up.
