  • A real long one this time, but quite a rewarding journey! Stay a while and listen.
We got several Vewlix L AMIs that appear to have come out of an arcade in Hong Kong, laden with Hong Kong dollar coins. How they got to Japan, we may never know. We bought these through one of our normal distributors, so our speculation is that a container of bulk came in from Hong Kong, and these were part of it. Some were salvageable and in working order, some like this one were junk condition and condemned to scrap...until we requested they be put aside for us. While many were missing back doors, had broken leg levelers, or other little issues, none were missing anything that was too significant. The point of this video is to show that these cabs can be given an excellent life, if you are just willing to put in the work!
We gave this cab a nice strip-down/clean, but nothing so crazy beyond that. The monitor ended up working, but we were replacing it with a 1080p IPS monitor anyway. For reference, you can fit these with pretty much any 32" monitor if you want; we don't intend to run fancy high-end console or PC stuff, so 1080p 60hz is all I need. The HadoukenArcade bracket is very versatile to meet your needs. You can pick up yours from the link below.

There really is too much to comment on, watch the video and enjoy!
The Vewlix shirt and others like it can be ordered from daskrabs' Redbubble shop, link below!

Great video! And as a wonderful coincidence, I am also restoring a Vewlix L that is in a little worse shape than yours here. I decided to just pull everything out, cables, power supplies, and eventually the feet and wheels. I am actually having a blast doing it (for now, anyway lol) and I love learning more about the machine. Even found a 50 yen coin in the far recesses of the cab!
One thing that I've noticed with the L and F lines is that the wrist rest can be pretty rough in terms of rust. I've got some pretty bad damage there myself. My plan is to wet sand it, apply a filler like Bondo, and then repaint it. Also the bezels get that eventual discoloration (I think from UV), same as the white pieces of the traditional L. So overall, quite the project. I have it in the garage for now until I get it perfect!

Love it! Doing this work is so cathartic, it’s just as much or more so the part of the hobby I enjoy than playing anything. Glad to hear your experience!

Great video, I’m refurbishing a Vewlix myself too! Could you expand on a little about the I/O or provide some links? Thank you!

Would it be possible to mount a 25" or 30" monitor with hadouken monitor mount?
