One of all time greats Mathew Fisher vocals Gary Brooker sorely missed it was a rock era late 60 early 70s add robin trower on guitar how could it not be great
This was the first thing I learned with my re-entry into organ playing 12 years ago with the sheet music from Elmo Peeler's manymidiproducts. Actually it is not too hard to learn but very rewarding.
- I understand that the original was played on an M102. (Scaled-down B3.) But the M102 had a large Jensen speaker in it, and internal reverb, which is _very_ important to achieve the WSOP sound. I've seen those things (your blue-haired aunt's or grandmother's parlor organ that was in her living room before she died) for sale for $200 USD locally in the past. People just wanted to get rid of them out the basement where they were stored under cover. They didn't know what they had because "it wasn't a B3." And your aunt didn't set those drawbars anywhere near like this. - The left hand is actually the key. The right hand is fairly easy to dial in correctly, because it's upfront. But you can't have the left hand too shrill or reedy or it will overpower the overall effect. Fisher (bless his heart) got it right. Classic case "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...and it definitely ain't broke. - Pretty much any softsynth Hammond tonewheel emulation will get you there, if you go that route. That sound is VERY easy to authentically emulate/model. There are around half-a-dozen good ones, some with better Leslies (ramp up and brake speeds). All have a WSOP patch, but in some cases with the left hand incorrect. (See above to get you headed in the right direction.) - The Leslie makes use of the Doppler effect. Somebody was crazy (and brilliant) enough to put that "train horn going away from you" puzzling (and awesome-sounding) phenomenon into a cabinet. Put it all together, and you've got the masterpiece known as AWSOP.
Thank you. I am the third. :) I love this song. I have different versions on my Spotify list. I play it with my keyboard but I benefit a lot from your video.
Thank You! I learned it from a band back in the Day who "graduated" from playing it on a Farfisa to a Hammond M3. Though he never used full chords the way it was done originally it sounded almost as good using single keys on both parts. So I started doing it that way when I finally found a Hammond M102. *Surprise!* Turns out that was the make & model Procol Harum recorded it on! Now I'll have to use your settings and progression. Can't wait! (Where did you get the settings? I was given, allegedly by way of Matthew Fisher, the original player, one for the lead somewhat different from yours.)
@@OnlineRockLessons I wrote it down but was years ago. If memory serves, and I recall being surprised it was that simple - the upper register was just a straight 8888. Still for the B3 console your choice of 6886 could be just the cleanup it needs. Fact is consoles and spinets have subtle differences in engineering... but is limit of my knowledge there!
What kind of keyboard are you using? I have a Nord stage three. I can split the keyboard if needed. I will practice it and see if it needs to be split for a different organ feel. Thanks
Beautiful song and awesome lesson. And I like else song from this Procol's Night album calld Pandora's Box Marine maybe you have midi files of the A Whiter Shade of Pale so I could play using backing track
@@OnlineRockLessons Thanks for the response!! I figured out the problem and have the music. It was user error. lol. I’m going to give it a go. I’ll be back. Thanks!
Why do I need to subscribe to get the sheet music? Why is the "free sheet music" only 1 bar instead of the whole thing? Why do you demonstrate the chords with your right hand while you have to play them with left? ...so much unclear to me...

Beautiful Work....❤. I will be re watching several times I hope i can learn this song I'm 70 so maybe it's not to late.
For general information: Brooker and Fisher borrowed a lot for this song from Johann Sebastian Bachs Air (from the Suite Nr. 3 D-major).
