    If you have access to a printer, you could print off pages from the Peanuts activity book and hand them out at your pumpkin carving party as another fun activity ! 😊

    Great haul. I agree about haggling. No harm politely asking. I thrift/yard sale my grandchildrens' wardrobes and get great stuff cheap. One of my daughter-in-laws told me she thinks all she had to buy last year was a pair of cleats & undergarments. I like to feel like I'm helping, but at a price we can afford. I also buy gently used toys & books for my house, but often they drag the stuff home 😂

    The wicker tray is beautiful. I would hang it on the wall in my kitchen when not in use. You did really well. :-)

    Your coffee sounds delightful with the maple syrup and cinnamon. I have tried coffee with cardamom, but will now try cinnamon too! There are stainless reusable coffee pods available and they are much better for your health to use. The plastic ones ( especially with hot beverages can leach plastic into the drink that gets into your system and can cause issues over time. Just thought to pass on the info. I have even changed out all my cute melamine spatulas for wood ones for the same reason. We don’t eat anything hot or acidic out of plastic or melamine ware.

      Thank you for sharing- I also try to minimize my plastic use, so I will be looking into those. Didn’t even know they made them! Do you find your coffee tastes the same as it did when using a plastic pod, or do you have a different type of coffee maker?

    Ooh that wicker thingy at the end would make an awesome base for a door reath too....if you didn't want to use it for food....if you like your existing wooden one better for food function. Good scores throughout.

    Re: negtotiating a price. Courtesy matters. Say you like the item and ask if that is their best price. If they come back with a higher price than you are willing to pay, say you'll think about it as you continue to look. Sometimes I add, depending on the item, that I'll have to think where I'll put it, to buy more time. With a small house, this is literally true. Sometimes the seller rethinks and comes back with a lower price, just to get rid of it. In my experience, there are two types of yard sale sellers: one is to make as much money as possible on their pre-owned stuff; and two, to get rid of it all so as not to have to haul it back into the house/garage! In the former category, once years ago I stood in a driveway holding a baseball bat I was thinking for my 7-year-old son. The guy hemmed and hawed, that he spend $95 on it new, so he'd have to get . . . . I waited, and knew I wasn't going to pay his inflated price! I didn't buy it. It's a garage sale, for Pete's sake! LOL!

      All of this is so true! Good and honest approaches to getting a better deal, and I always say above all to be kind. And yes, anytime someone references how much they originally paid for an item, I know I’m probably not going to be buying it 🙃

      @@yardsalesquad Interesting you both mention that. I grew up going to garage sales in Australia (yard sales). People expect bartering. But I live in Belgium now where it's on a much smaller scale and doesn't have much history, and people often don't really 'understand' the concept and can act a bit put out when you bargain. I was at a children's market recently and found a pack of science facts on cards. The lady wanted 3 euros. I politely asked for 2 but she wouldn't budge because it was 'new'. It did not look particularly new, and a quick google shows the new price is 10 dollars (it was an american product). I feel like it's the sort of thing that you would find in your videos for a quarter or 50c. Maybe that wasn't the best example, but there's plenty on Facebook Marketplace. People often ask 60-70% of the new price. I read once that a good rule of thumb is asking for 10-20%. What people don't understand is that the minute you buy and open a product, it loses a considerable amount of value.

  • @barbarawarren9645
    @barbarawarren9645 3 месяца назад +2

    I understand about bargaining but if I found excellent prices like a $1 for a dress I couldn't ask for a cheaper price. Higher priced items that I felt were too much I might ask/offer for a lower price. I always think of putting myself in their place. When I'm selling items I would say "make an offer" on items I really want to get rid of. I sell items to make money. I sell on FB Marketplace with good success.

      The three resources we use are, of course, Facebook marketplace and keeping an eye out for signs on the road, but also there’s an app called Yard Sale Treasure map. Yes, you can look in an adjusted radius to your home. I believe it’s connected to Craigslist. It’s been a really useful tool!
