I'm impressed. Most people miss the lowest bass note (with the thumb) on the 3, and put it on the 1 where that Travis-style picking normally puts the thumb. But that's the magic, and you got it. Very nice!!
I know at that time they were using newly acquired Martin D-28s that they had taken on their trip to India with the Maharishi. Could be another possibility?
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist It is. John learned Travis style picking from Donovan when the Beatles spent time in India in 1968. Also in the video, he removed the the octave strings, so his acoustic is only 6 strings. I'm not sure if John Lennon used his Gibson J160 or his Martin D-28...Pretty sure it was the Martin.

Once again you showed me the correct way to play something that I have been playing “my own way” for years . Lol.
I so like your relaxed and informative teaching style. If I had you as my teacher, I would be so much better in my 60yrs of playing.
I've got that same model 12 string with the dove inlays. Its incredible. Nice lesson.
What model and brand 12 string is that?
@@Billsingsong Yamaha FG 460SA-12. Most of them have a leaf on the headstock but for a couple of years they had doves.
Nice work 12 Ft, I haven't listened to the song Julia in awhile now. Top Shelf ♪♫♪♫♪
Thank you soo much for a great lesson on a most GREAT song!!!!
Cracking lesson again mate!
Great job - love this song. I've now got quite a challenge ahead!👍
Thanks! I wish I could buy you a beer!😆

Can't wait for the Beatles new single later this year, also by John.
Love it!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Evil Twin? I played this this morning on my Yamaha electric!
Yes, a kind of Travispicking, but it was John Lennon’s own type
What brand and model number is the 12th St.
It's in the vid description
Great lesson, thanks. Would be helpful if you started your videos with a play through, or at least an intro sample.
Muscle does not have a memory!
Did they use a 12-string on that originally?
No
@@keithpartridge what I had to wonder cuz it was kind of more like dear Prudence style finger-picking he used on that almost the same kind of way.

@@keithpartridge yup it all came from the great country picker the legendary Merle Travis.
That's where they all got the name Travis picking.
Travis Picking
I'm still on I Thank You!!!! Very slow here!
no time requirement :-)
@@12footchain TY!!!
That’s weird whynot use a six string instead of making a 12 string into a six string
I don't own a 6
I think that’s known as Travis picking.
It is when you use your two fingers and not three.
Some People that fingerpick they use all three
Too much talking
Blah, blah, blah… get on with it! 🤣🤣🤣
