Lovely stuff Sam! Dont forget that in this plane during flare closing the thrust induces a pitch up moment due to the engines placement. Opposite reaction from our B738 :)
I am nearly sure that FTSiM will make a soundpack for it. Ps. that white light at the end on the left of the glareshield (its amber in the real plane) is the illuminator for the Anti-Lock breaking system; it lights up to let you know that you disabled/disarmed the autobrake. The Autobrake also disconnects itself once you apply toe brakes. You can click it like a caution warning light to cancel it out.
The only bit that I'd say needs looking into is the sound. It certainly isn't bad, I'd say more adequate! Thanks for increasing my knowledge of the MD80! 🙂 FD2S
Great video, thanks for sharing it! Normally the APU needs the start pump when no ground power is available. It's a DC pump that's battery powered. You don't need the start pump for engine start up.
Great Stream CPT! ^_^ Nice plane, i remember, back in 2005 it was the first plane i learned in fs2004, it was called LAGO md80 and developed by Leonardo SH (the actual developer) in conjuction with Lago.
Absolutely superb showcase of the Maddog Captain. You did it justice. This has opened Pandora's Box. There is absolutely no excuse now for other developers to crow about how MSFS is impossible to develop complex aircraft for. This and the PMDG 737 has raised the bar to an extremely high level. £69 is a bargain. Lets hope PDMG price their aircraft roughly the same.
True - other devs have this to look up to when it comes to systems and Leonardo need to look up to some other planes and improve the visuals and sounds on this Maddog :) Btw this MD80 is the most expensive airliner for MSFS at $80. $10 more than the PMDG 737s.
It's great to see their aircraft work well in MSFS. Pretty much all of their coding for the aircraft is completely custom made which is why SU9 has caused no issues. Fair price for the level of system modelling and functionality, rock solid A/P and although not demonstrated during the stream, it flew RNAV approaches right on the correct descent path when I tried it during testing. Best addon I've tried to date! FD2S
@@flightdeck2sim This is interesting to know. The Majestic Dash 8 Q400 has completely custom coding, and because of this they haven't been able to create a rendition of their Q400 for MSFS. Well there is no excuse now to not be full steam ahead on development. It was simply stunning in P3D, and you can only imagine what it will be like in MSFS. I spoke to Majestic a few days ago, and they are working on it in the background for MSFS. For me the most anticipated add on to date. Well that and the 777 from PDMG. 😁
Another excellent video mate well done nice to see Leonardo have done an excellent job on converting the outstandingly great P3D version. Great to see we will finally have a really good aircraft for msfs. Your right i have been highly critical of many of the msfs releases as until this msfs users have become accustomed and welcomed numerous incomplete and inaccurate addons. Its become so bad they consider the FBW a study level addon which while they are doing great work its a very very long way from being anything close to study level.. Having been lucky to fly the real A320 for 15 years right now there is only one truely study level A320 family on the market capable of simulating normal and non normal situations. Its a pity so many devs appear to be preying on the lack of knowledge of the average msfs simmer and making money for effectively 1/3 finished aircraft. As one of the beta testers of msfs it was quite devastating to see the state it was released in particularly the A320 which was basically Unflyable. In short everything the Airbus guys on the team said was completely ignored. Anyway enough waffling just dropping a note to say well done on the MD-82 and also showing off the Zibo over the years. Fully agree with your comments re the handling feel of xplane still feeling more like really flying and the dynamic motion reflecting as close to real flying as you can get in a sim. As for Pmdg and streamers you summed it up perfectly. Anyway great stream very well done. Cheers
Thank you very much for the very kind words and comment! I do share your frustrations regarding some of the half baked products available in MSFS (this is why I stay clear of them) and concentrate on what are better made products or at least where a dev has put a huge amount of effort into creating a quality product. Absolutely agree with you re XP11, I'm confident the PMDG will out pip the ZIBO MOD regarding systems modelling and immersion and it will be a great buy, they've been building on the PMDG 737 for 15 years. The incredible replication of our planet in MSFS (it looked like a movie during the stream imo) is really awesome and although sometimes one step forward, two steps back with SU updates, it's generally improving. Great to see aircraft devs making great products in the sim. For me, personally, having flown several aircraft in MSFS the way aircraft handle in all phases (Flight/Ground) is ok. The numbers match but it's just a simple fact, it just isn't as fluid or dynamic as XP11. It feels like you're flying a proper aeroplane in XP11 and as you said, it still is the only sim that is as close to real flying as you can get. FD2S
About the flight model, Asobo has been adding new stuff and improvements with every sim update so I'm confident it'll one day catch up with X-Plane. To make a flight model that realistic you need lots of time, experience and especially feedback from various parties.
I'm pretty confident they won't catch up with X-Plane, mostly because they have no intention to do so. Development of almost everything when it comes to simulation can be seen a bit like an exponential curve. Improving upon FSX was quite simple with modern technologies and processing power. But the closer you want to get to realism, the more processing power and, for developers more importantly, developing time you need. At that point you need to consider your audience. How many people would be willing to spend money on those improvements. And the Microsoft Flight Simulator platform has always been a platform for a wide audience as everyone knows it and it is quite synonymous with Flight Simulation. Which is great, but it also means that many just simply don't care if you are simulating everything to the very last detail. So using the developers to work on the Flight Model so much while probably not really generating higher sales because of that, is unlikely. Customers who are keen on deeper simulations will most likely go to other platforms like X-Plane for instance. Or buy airplanes that "override" the internal Flight Model anyway. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not talking about that Asobo will not improve the Flight Model, they will and they will probably get close to X-Plane, but they won't overcome it. Also that doesn't mean that X-Plane is a better platform. It just simply has another focus so you trade the better default Flight Model with other disadvantages (currently it is especially the graphics, but let's see what X-Plane 12 does), most likely that more processing power goes into the Flight Model and cannot be used for other things. I just simply want to say that every developer has their own internal focus and I doubt that Asobo's focus is as much on the Flight Model as it is on the agenda from Laminar Research as it is one of the main selling points.
@@thesilentchristo Thanks man. That's a very objective, profound answer. Yes you're right X-Plane might just have to focus more on the flight model since they cannot compete with Microsoft on graphics and scenery. However, Microsoft may have the ambition to be the best for marketing purposes since they are a much larger company. Also, they might want to make it interesting for commercial users as well. I think it's impossible for you or me to make accurate predictions since there are too many factors at play. But it's certainly fun to debate.
Nice model. What would make the experience even better is the addition of fully functional pop-up panels (like in X-Plane and P3D) that do not chew up 30 FPS and that allow users to set all required inputs from the panels themselves, but after almost 2 years since MSFS has been released, Asobo apparently does not think this is an important feature in a flight sim or perhaps has just no idea of how to even implement that feature (not surprising). They are still stuck on clouds, trees and birds....

With regards to the standby compass it's quite curious why it was behind the pilots' back. The reason is actually the 3 windows windscreen design. As a result of it there is no centre pillar on which to place the compass, and placing it on the dashboard would have caused too much interference to the needle because of all the instruments. Hence why the odd position at the back.
