      You can get it in different sizes too, but here's one of them. Thanks for watching!

    Looking great Ben. Can you elaborate on the fact in your first leaf video that supports the leaf batteries need to be held together tightly as you have done with the long threaded rods. Thanks

    • @benssolarandbattery
      @benssolarandbattery  3 года назад

      Grant, from what I've read, pouch cells like this need to be somewhat compressed to prevent them from expanding during hard charging or discharging. The enclosures around the leaf cells don't provide any compression, hence the need to add it.

      @@benssolarandbattery Thanks for the reply Ben. I have one more question for you. I am working on a setup of leaf batteries for a 48 v system. I have seven modules and looking for a BMS for the setup. I heard you say Daly, but missed model and a good source for the BMS. Any help is appreciated.

    • @benssolarandbattery
      @benssolarandbattery  3 года назад

      @@booterone1 the model really depends on what you want to do with it. For a 7 leaf battery you'd use a 14s BMS because there's 2 cells in series per battery. Then you have to figure out what your maximum charge and discharge will be. I then double it. So if the maximum discharge is 40a, get an 80a or larger BMS. That just makes sure you don't overload it. I usually get them from the Daly official store on AliExpress or Alibaba.

      @@benssolarandbattery Thanks again for the help, now I have to find the correct model to deliver the correct voltage for charging. I am thinking that 8.2 volts for the dual cells which would be around 4.1 for the single. I am probably looking at 40 amp max discharge and thinking a 20 amp charge is sufficient.

  • @beechcraft12
    @beechcraft12 7 месяцев назад +1

    YES, I think you helped me save my project by making me aware that i can connect the daly bms to a bank of leaf modules in series. Does it work like that out of the box? I thought the bms would help monitor and balance each cell and I was under the impression that I would have to crack open each module and solder the bms leads to each cell in the leaf's 2s2p modules. originally, I was going to crack open 5 leaf modules and re-wire the 2s2p stock modules into 4s and bms them into my 72v project. I already purchased a 20s 80amp daly bms originally for the 20 cells i would have re-wired into series across 5 modules. Now, can I just hook them up to the 10 modules as you did with your 8 and get balancing and monitoring? @benssolarandbattery

    • @benssolarandbattery
      @benssolarandbattery  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, just hook them up in series and add BMS leads. Separating the individual cells could get you more accurate cell level data, but sounds like way too much work.

    • @beechcraft12
      @beechcraft12 6 месяцев назад

      @benssolarandbattery one more question sir. I read that the center post on the leafs werent for curent draw. I assume it will be ok for balancing but not to hook stuff up to. Will the daly be able to read the leafs as 7.2-8.4 "cells"? Thought it only reads and starts balancing at 3.2 or something.

    • @benssolarandbattery
      @benssolarandbattery  6 месяцев назад

      @beechcraft12 yes, the center posts are just for balancing and voltage readings. You'll be able to read half the total module voltage from the center post to positive and negative.

  • @teekay1785

    You could save one cut on the insulation on each busbar by sliding it further off and cutting twice as much off the first time then sliding it back to center.

    You mentioned that that BMS is different since it has a 40 amp charge and a 20 amp discharge. Is the printing on the BMS incorrect because it looks like it matches what you said the rest of your BMS's are with a 20 amp charge and a 40 amp discharge?
    13:22

    • @benssolarandbattery
      @benssolarandbattery  3 года назад +1

      It was different than the ones already in service. They were 40a charge and 40a discharge. I asked Daly directly about this and they said this was an older model. From what I've heard it probably uses cheaper mosfets. No worries for me putting less than 10a through it.

    • @BenBrand
      @BenBrand 3 года назад +1

      @@benssolarandbattery great, that makes sense. Wanted to make sure I understood because I think in another video you also had said 40 amp charge and 20 amp discharge when pointing it a BMS that was the opposite. Many people say they really trust the daly BMS, I still probably would never run more than half of what it was rated for I've had two out of my first three I got have problems right out of the box. To bad it's that way, seems with solar the sustained charging is a higher amperage than the discharge.

      Here's a link to the exact one. I usually buy them on Alibaba direct from Daly, but needed this one sooner, so found one in the USA on Ebay. If you're using this battery by itself, you'll most likely want a higher amperage though.

      I prefer the volvo batteries as they are smaller and lighter per kWh. They are already in 16s configuration, so if that's what you're using they're great, but if not, leaf would be better. The leaf batteries are very easy to put together in different configurations though.

      Depends what you're doing with them. The Leaf battery is more versatile and can be easily configured almost any way. The volvo battery is 16s and it would be a pain to reconfigure, but it also seems to be newer and is much easier to work with in a 16s configuration.
