Pam, there is nobody on the Internet I trust more concerning the specifics of food and food preservation than you. Your hard work is quite appreciated here in Eugene, Oregon. LUCRETIA
The Canned Fruit dehydrating is awesome. After watching your dehydrating canned vegetable video. I went ahead and did canned fruit. I had an enormous amount of Fruit Cocktail sitting in my pantry. It came out better than fresh fruit. I made a bunch of trail mix with it. I also made a fruit powder from it for baking purposes. I also started to dehydrate my applesauce and it has made an amazing apple leather. So these cans of fruit, no one would eat. Is now being eaten😊
@@kat517 I would freeze it and use when baking or making ice cream or smoothies or maybe ferment it. I just cant throw away any kind of food even if it's sugar water.
Pam, you look like a kid showing us all her Christmas gifts!! I enjoy your happy smiles as you show each product. I love watching and learning but seeing genuine happiness makes it all the better! Thank you for making information and education enjoyable!!
We love our Chef's Store!! Discovered the beauty of freeze drying pineapple slices from the large cans at the Chef's Store. Thanks so much for your continued videos.
I dearly love watching your channel. I have learned so much. Im excited to see what Jim has in store for us viewers. Also the dehydrating of the fruits!
I like my Chef Store. It’s out of my way, but always worth it when I feel like it. I reuse my mineral water bottles (17oz) for small things like that pasta. It’s a portion size I’d normally use then I can recycle the bottle or give it a third life. Less dishes, and less containers to buy. :)
Thank you, I will definitely check out the store. POPCORN TINS great storage tip now I will quit putting them in the rafters and use them. You and your hubby are a fantastic duo. We love your channel. We're only 3 years into the prep world. So much to learn Thank you.
ALL of my stores that I frequent have NO No 10 cans. I will reach out to my on-line friends to see if their stores carry them. Thank you. God Bless, stay safe and warm.
Love the Chef Store. The unbleached flour is wonderful. With former food service days in our youth we always find equipment. Great for supplying pasta and spices.
I love drying fruits and veggies. My favorite are zucchini chips and tomatoes. Seasoning preference, so far is a garlic, rosemary and salt for the tomatoes and zucchini. My favorite fruit are pears with a touch of sugar sprinkled on them.
I'll check out the Chef Store. I cut a Costco rotisserie chicken in half and make quick chicken and dumplings. Stockpot, broth and water, onion, carrot, celery, bay leaves and 11 peppercorns (mom always said 11so11 It is😄. She also said don't forget to add the celery leaves!) Cooking is our time to feel memories of our loved ones. I really enjoy your channel and the knowledge you share. Thank you so much.
Pam & Jim, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE you all!!!!! THANK YOU for letting me know I could dehydrate the canned fruit! I don't know why on earth I'd never thought of that! Thank you!
That Restaurant Supply has food?? Yay. I thought it was the type of restaurant supply store that only have things like knives, mixers, plastic storage containers stuff like that. I checked and found one 35 miles away thats 70 miles round trip, but if you love it I just gotta' go and check it out. lol Thanks
I have a local market that every few months does bulk buys. I have bought 40lb boxes of chicken breast for canning as well as 10lb rolls of ground beef. They also once a year do 40lb boxes of Maine blueberries. All this is bought for canning and preserves at a decent savings.
I'm so glad you have access to a Chef Store! We've been shopping there for about 3 decades (and still call it Cash and Carry). As a teenager, I went there for the coffee syrups, which were triple and quadruple the price in the grocery stores as a new, novel item. While I don't find deals like that anymore (and my taste buds have thankfully graduated away from those chemical syrups); you do need to know the going rates in your area as Chef Store can be quite a bit higher, but I still have my favorites. For example, I like their #10 cans of whole poblanos, which I stem, seed and freeze in smaller batches for dinners (mostly enchilada stacks). Their giant pork loins are great for cutting into chops and freezing, as well. Thank you for the fun shopping haul!
Wow--you have a great history with them. We have done some comparative shopping and stick with the bargains. Jim is a great shopper--always checking prices.
Its been what, 20 years since thry were Cash-Carries? We are weaning ourselves to Chef's Store but, its hard to in this area as some give you a blank look when you use the new name.
It's only been 2-3 years since our store was called Cash and Carry. They've changed the name twice in that time. And the 40lb box of frozen boneless, skinless chicken has quadrupled in price. Ouch! @terryhenderson424
I don't have any small children in my home either but I do have a husband and it is a losing battle keeping that stainless steel refrigerator clean!@RoseRedHomestead
this is my favorite store in the world. i remember when it was called Cash & Carry and one had to have a restaurant license to even get in. I actually did a video on my local US Chef Mart about 4 years ago...people just don't know it exists! thanks for spotlighting it too!
Just so you know, your last two videos before this one didn't show up on my feed. I realized they were there when I was searching for a prior video directly on your channel. RUclips has been super weird lately but two entire videos is a new one.
During 2020-21 Chef store had everything the other stores ran out of and much better prices. 10 pound boxes of pasta from Italy, no gmo. Lentils, beans and rice in 10 and 20 pound bags are great since 50 pounds is too much and too heavy for me. Spices are plentiful
Man, I wish I were out there in the Beehive State. I'd love to hang out with you guys! Your camping videos are great, and I love your content on this channel as well.
The last time I went to Costco I bought three rotisserie chickens again and ended up with six pounds off meat and eight quarts of broth! And that isn’t counting the two legs and two wings my husband had for dinner that day😂 I love doing that. With cold and flu season I’ve been drinking a lot of broth❤

I have that same xmas tin full of table salt. I use kosher but save that tin in the event bartering is ever an option. We have the same US Chef store in the area we go to shop and we love it because it absorbed the Smart n Finals and carries the First Street brand. A brand I have purchased for years.
Thank you for this. I googled the store and there was one about an hour from me. I loved the store. I got fruit to dehydrate from your other video. We use to be able to get those large cans here but they seemed to have disappeared in the grocery stores. Looking forward to dehydrating pears.
Hello! I just cracked up when I saw the 10 pound bag of pasta come out of the box....I just bought the same thing yesterday!! 😂 Good price! I love shopping at this store!! Happy cooking!!
Thank you for the video on your trip to the restaurant store. It is so much better when you can buy in bulk for many things. There is just the 2 of us so we try to buy larger quantities of meat etc and then vacuum seal them in serving sizes so we can just easily pull out what we need from the freezer.
My husband and I really enjoy shopping at our Chef Food store in Oregon...try their sliced Swiss cheese and honey ham....great price and delicious. Goes a long way.
We don't seem to have this store near us. We live near Memphis TN. We do have a restaurant supply store called Lit, and Lit Jr. You don't need a business license or tax exempt to shop there, and, if anyone needs it, they accept food stamps. Some of their prices are not good. Some are. Their clearance prices are great. I bought a #10 can of Italian seasoning for$1.99. We have gotten breaded chicken strips, 10 lbs for $10. Rib tips same price. Sometimes Pizzas 99 cents. We get some of our spices in big bottles. I've bought milk jugs, juice bottles. When my blender couldn't hold up to preserving, I bought a really good blender for $100.
Thanks for the video! We like the US Food Store, too! We were just able to get hamburger for $2.09 a pound. Happy Day! 😀I can't wait for Jim's premier!
Great video Pam. I guess this is the one draw back living where we do. We don’t have access to stores like that anywhere near us. But we do have Costco and that is our go to bulk store. Thank you for sharing 🌷🇨🇦
Not a regular fan but this chef’s store caught my eye. We have one near us in Roanoke VA My concern is the quality of the meat and seafood. Jim, I love your tortillas, great choice. Can’t wait to see what Jim is up to with the peanuts. Thank you both so much for what you do. It is so important these days. ❤
I have been delighted with your videos. After going through your book on the 60 days of food storage I took an inventory of my recipes that I like and use most often. My goal was to have an actual number of times I use ingredients. To my surprise I discovered that I rely too heavily on a constant supply of fresh onions, celery and carrots. Next week the dehydrating begins! I have a small supply in reserve but nothing close to what I might need in a difficult situation. Thank you so much for your research and making these videos.
Thank you for reviewing the chef store. We just recently got one a couple miles away from us. I’ll go check it out. Thank you. Can’t wait to see what Jim is going to come up with those peanuts.
Taking your advice, I searched for a Chef Store Near Me and -- newsflash! -- found one in the small town of Buda in Central Texas, south of Austin. It's a scant 45-mile round trip for me, so a Foodie Field Trip is now on the calendar for ASAP. Thank you so much for this tip, I'm looking forward to exploring a new resource! well, darnit! It turns out the Buda location is only a distribution center, not open to the public. The closest location is almost 200 milesaway. I'm glad I called ahead! I suggest others do the same before planning a trip. :-(
I am lucky to have a US Chef Store very near me. They sell Polar brand ready-to-eat kipper snacks far cheaper than anywhere else that I've found. I like the low prices of their large containers of herbs and spices, too, but the container size is now smaller and I'm no longer finding organic options. It's time to again compare their herbs and spices prices to Costco's.
We have that store too and I love it. I bought the large can of tomato sauce and dehydrated it. So easy to reuse. Thank you for all you both do. God bless.
I really enjoy that same store and make the 100 mile round trip to shop there. I like the selection and was planning on buying onions in large quantity to FD. Apparently there was a email sent out to their restaurant customers regarding a price hike due to recent storms.
I am curious what you are doing with dehydrated canned fruit. Wouldn't the shelf life of it be longer in the can vs dehydrating? I have tried dehydrating canned pineapple and peaches to put in muffin mixes. Both took seemingly forever to dry and tasted very metallic.
We are blessed to have a US Foods Chef's Store where I live and I love it! Ours carries restaurant and kitchen equipment, large and small, in addition to the bulk foods. I'll have to keep my eye out for canning equipment next time I'm there.
We have a chefs store in my city. They have different types of gluten free flours in bulk, too. Those are very expensive in small bags at the supermarket
I paused the video so I could do a search for the store. The closest one to me is about three and a half hours away. That's a bit far for me, but if I have a reason to head that way, I will certainly stop in. As always, I appreciate the information that you bring us. I'm looking forward to upcoming videos. I have to say I am now quite curious to see what Jim is going to do with the peanuts. Thank you!
😥just looked it up..I guess we don’t have that store here in Colorado. What a great deal on wild caught shrimp. We could take a ride over your way and check it out sometime. I love stores like that. Pop corn and peanuts are my meltdown. I have to stay away from them now. I need a better Grain mill. I just have a hand crank one. Can you give me the name of yours? Food storage can be so addictive but such fun doing it. For me anyway.
Hello from Canada I absolutely love you both!!! I realize our prices are higher in this country than in the States but would you be willing to share the cost of what you purchased today? I'm also wondering if you guys are just as curious as many of us as to why the stores don't allow people to bring cameras inside? Maybe it's because people have been crazy with their cameras or maybe it's because they're hiding things.
Pam, there is nobody on the Internet I trust more concerning the specifics of food and food preservation than you. Your hard work is quite appreciated here in Eugene, Oregon. LUCRETIA

What happens to the liquid in the can.? I have only dehydrated frozen items.

Use it for pancake and waffle syrup. My grandchildren prefer fruit flavored syrup over maple.

Keep those #10 cans. you can make rocket stoves or twig stoves with them!
Good idea!
I have cabbage in the dehydrator right now and it's all your fault Ms Pam!! I never considered to dehydrate cabbage.
Great ideas

Yeast will store for a very long time in your freezer. I know I have 5 year old yeast that I have been using and it’s fine.
We have a Gordon Food Service store near us. They supply our local school cafeteria.
We have GFS stores here. A lot of small catering companies use these stores. Th ey are only in larger cities. Maybe these are similar type stores.

Wow.... Nice haul. Bornstein Seafood is delicious. Thank you Pam and Jim.
What a great shopping trip! Looking forward to the canned fruit dehydrated show! Take care!
Here in Va, the me of those store will be coming soon. I can’t wait. We have a restaurant depot but you have to have a business to shop there
Thank you for all you do!
Thanks for listening/watching. Jim
Thankyou from Australia
There is a US food store really close to me within 15 minutes. So I will have to check out the store and do bulk food processing
Morbead flour unbleached is one of my favorites in 50 lbs sacks. Fills a 5 gallon bucket perfectly.
Those tortillas make great thin crust pizza!

We are blessed to have a US Foods Chef's Store where I live and I love it! Ours carries restaurant and kitchen equipment, large and small, in addition to the bulk foods. I'll have to keep my eye out for canning equipment next time I'm there.
They are great places to shop! We love ours.
We have a chefs store in my city. They have different types of gluten free flours in bulk, too. Those are very expensive in small bags at the supermarket
Yes, the expense is the reason we buy in bulk. Jim
My husband just discovered this store in our town. Its wonderful with great prices
We think so too!
Thank you!

Search for restaurant supply stores.
In my area the store is Gordon's Food service.
Thanks for sharing!! Jim
I can't wait to see what you can use the dehydrated canned fruit for!
Hello from Canada I absolutely love you both!!! I realize our prices are higher in this country than in the States but would you be willing to share the cost of what you purchased today? I'm also wondering if you guys are just as curious as many of us as to why the stores don't allow people to bring cameras inside? Maybe it's because people have been crazy with their cameras or maybe it's because they're hiding things.
love your videos
Thanks! Jim
The Chef Store is a awesome.
We agree!
The closest store to us is in South Carolina, but that's okay. We are within driving distance of so many good resources, I can't really complain.
I love your attitude of using what works best for you!
