I'd actually love a series of 'greg's cocktail sodas', 'greg's spiked potions' or 'greg's cyberpunk bar hits' etc. where you just go nuts experimenting with different ways of making unusual drinks inspired by whatever suits you at the time. I'll certainly watch it!
I don't need to finish the video to say yes you absolutely should do more. The fact we also have some of the flavors (not that you should use fish at all) included it gives an idea of the direction for the drinks.
I never thought about Electric Cherry like that until now. Electric chair. Electric Cherry and the perk made it’s debut on the map Mob of the Dead and to those who don’t know. That map took place on Alcatraz (hellcatraz if you know you know.). Holy shit consider my mind blown.
The almonds taste of cyanide in cherries and their relatives come from benzaldehyde, not from the cyanide itself, so it's possible your extract would still have been okay (hard to say without checking the process itself). The chemistry is like this: cyanide in cherries and their relatives is packaged in a molecule called a cyanogenic glucoside. In this molecule, the cyanide is attached to a sugar molecule and another chemical group, in this case the benzaldehyde. When you crush a leaf of the cherry (such as when an herbivore - or Greg - tries to eat it), the cyanide-containing compound is freed from its cellular container and the bond between the cyanide, sugar, and benzaldehyde are all broken apart, freeing the cyanide to poison the attacker and leaving the benzaldehyde to turn into a vapor that you can smell as that classic almond smell. Therefore, the almond smell could have come from already-broken down molecules leaving behind benzaldehyde (this is in fact what synthetic almond extract is made from!) -- but I would agree to erring on the side of caution in case there are still undigested glucosides still in what you made. Why does the plant have this complicated way of storing cyanide, rather than just producing cyanide on its own? It's a way of protecting itself. In the un-broken-down form, the cyanide can't act to poison the plant itself. It only becomes poisonous in this scenario when the plant is attacked by an outside source and is already being injured.
Regarding the lime substitute, you should look into a thing my wife found called True Lime. It's "crystalized" lime juice. It's marketed as water flavoring. It lists citric acid, lime oil and lime juice as the only ingredients. I wanted a Mai Tai one night and didn't have any limes. I decided to try it and it worked extremely well. It's already shelf stable, so it may work in your sodas. Also, this series could be a way you can show us how to make our own bottled cocktails.
Adding that they also make True Lemon, True Orange, and True Grapefruit. All distinctly represent their fruits, orange is just missing a touch of sweetness.
It's great stuff but I'm thinking once that crystalized lime juice hits water and turns into well lime juice, it'll no longer be shelf stable, so wouldn't work here unless you poured it in after you opened the bottle.
Adding just the oils from the citrus fruits to the acid water would also be a decent approximation, and while you can definitely buy food grade citrus oils quite easily, it would be fun to see Greg get into steam distillation for those "more science-y" methods he was looking for :P
Fun fact, the electric cherry assumption he made is actually completely true! The perk was introduced for the map "Mob Of The Dead" in black ops 2 which is based on Alcatraz Island! For someone who most likely doesn't know the games that was an damn good guess!
I'm honestly really surprised you've not done a Deep Rock Galactic episode. I know those are all beers, but it still feels very on-brand for this channel.

I'm happy to see this continuation. The original video is still one of my favorites of your vids. Hopefully you do make a series out of this. Also you nailed the Electric Cherry naming motif. It shows up for the first time in "Mob of the Dead" a level that takes place on Alcatraz Island, and is indeed a play on Electric Chair.
THIS is what I originally came to HTD so many years ago. Love learning new ways to create cocktails. I never would have considered making "acid water" when you cannot use fresh juice but holy crap it makes so much sense.

So yea, Electric Chair-y is exactly on point
Absolutely do more of these, it's utterly fascinating to see these fictional sodas be translated into reality. Staminup would be the easiest one out of the remaining perks, but Tombstone, Who's Who, Vulture Aid, and Widow's Wine will be extremely interesting to see what you come up with, because there's little to no flavor 'clues' for those. You got 'tastes like chalk but an old man thinks it's good', 'not fit for humans', 'might have carrots', and 'came from a giant spider'.
COD Zombies was something I played the crap outta a while back, to the point it and its very haphazard narrative/setting used to even be a hyperfixation of mine. So happy to see more of this on the channel since the Perk-A-Colas are such nice encapsulation of the Zombies nonsense. Really curious to see what you'd do with a Who's Who or Tombstone, the latter especially if you wanna get more science-y or experimental. Vulture Aid and Widow's Wine too could hit that category, they both have interesting effects which could allow for embellishment in their presentation/profile.
At last the second lot of theses, but dead shot daiquiri is yellow in the game, PhD flopper needs to be purple and stamin up should be orange just to fit the traditional looks from the game
I agree, he nailed the colors on the first 4 and these ones felt off, still really well done, could’ve added some food coloring! I’m also wondering where he heard that Samantha said deadshot tastes like strawberries? Samantha never tasted the perks as far as I’m aware?
9:54 prunes are actually a different fruit. I know this because I have two Italian prune trees in my back yard right now. You can buy fresh prunes at the grocery store.
Staminup, Tombstone Soda, Who's Who?, and Vulture Aid would get you caught up on unique perks up to Black Ops 2. As a bonus you could also tackle the improved Doubletap 2.0. Unfortunately that leaves us with only one more that has dialogue on the taste, being Widow's Wine in BO3.
Because you asked so nicely; 1) Stamin-Up 2) Widow's Wine 3) Stone Cold Stronghold (even though it's not a soda) 4) Double Tap Root Beer 2 (even though we've already seen DTRB1) In all seriousness, though, great video! I was very entertained. Thanks Greg!
The massive zombie fan in me would love to see you tackle both stamin up and widows wine, but I'm just so happy to see a ep2 to this little series you made, can't wait to make these later this year!!!
Im not on the discord anymore to suggest it, but a periodic "update" video on just bar stuff you've worked with more, purchased, or changed would be great. Not even through this episode yet, you've talked about changing the way you make ginger syrup, and are using the removable bottom bottles that you weren't sure of yet since you didnt get to use them much.
I guess as some deeper explanation for you greg on alot of the lore, Samantha Maxis is the daughter of one of the head researchers of group 935, Ludvig Maxis. Him andnhis long time partner, Dr. Edward Richtofen (famously voiced by nolan north), are the head researchers in developing super soldiers for the nazis during ww2. This was being done (at least in the canon of world at war and black ops 1) through a meteorite that crashed in japan. The story itself expended LARGELY from that and includong stories of dimensional travel and cosmic beings that brought forth doom to the universe among other supernatural phenomina. To put it sinple, the lore of cod zombies over thenyears became a larger and larger iceberg of alternate stories, expansions, and even entirely different universes with no relations other than its a zombie gamemode in a call of duty game Thenone i will note most is the zombies in infinite warfare, a story where a crazed film director (voiced by paul reuben) made a deal with the devil to make kany of his films real, and trapped 4 of his actors into these films. These movies each parody a different film genre from 70s martial arts films, to 90s slasher, to 50s sci-fi. Notably, the perk o colas in this version of zombies is replaced with essentially, jellybeans. Instead of soda, perk machines gave movie theater boxes full of flavored jellybeans that essentially function the same as the normal perk-o-colas. One last thing ill say is that i cant wait for your next cod zombies video, and if i got to choose the next perk for you to look at, its elemental pop. Not only for it being from the 80s focused cold war zombies, but also because in cold war, the perk bottles are replaced wifh soda cans. So perhaps you could try straight up canning soda.
I originally found this channel on the first zombie perk drinks video and I’m so happy to see this one and all your other videos now too they’re great!
In Black Ops Cold War, the Perk Colas are detailed enough to see the ingredients. Obviously alot of the perks have jokey substances like feline urea and a lethal amount of sugar but just a thought.
I actually have Darcy O'Neil's book after seeing it on Glen and Friends Cooking when he did a chocolate phosphate, and I have to say, it's a fascinating read.
I was listening to the talking heads this morning and you humming the song that was currently stuck in my head absolutely bugged me out, just thought you should know
I LOVE CoD Zombies and watching you make the perks is a ton of fun. Some interesting ones I think you could do next are Tombstone Soda, Vulture Aid, and Who’s Who
I know booze seems to be what everyone gravitates to but your soda content is some of my favorite stuff. It itches s chemistry itch in my brain. Excited for Nuka Cola!
staminup, tombstone soda, vulturesaide and whos who- next please. avid fan of call of duty, this show, and drinking. these two videos are some of my favorite youve done.
Love this channel, it’s been with me for the last 7 years. I wish the algorithm would stop being lame about alcohol and just let you blow up like you should. I don’t even drink but I’ve always enjoyed this channel and the beautiful shots of beautifully colored liquid
I've been waiting for this for years, i make the speed cola as a summer drink and the double tap is one of my all time favorite drinks ever. Can't wait to try these. Also big things are coming to custom zombies on BO3 this year for those real zombie fans
The characters say specific quotes depicting how each of the perks taste. In the Cold War Call of Duty game; they actually have ingredients for each of the perks. (Of course these wouldn’t make them consumable)
Make my Piquancy Cocktail, its based on one I had at a michiline start Korean joint in Chicago: 1/2 ounce powdered orange drink (that's been to the moon) 1/2 ounce gochugang sauce 2oz Bourbon (bonded or barely legal preferred) Mix the above, then top with crushed ice and a splash of lemon lime soda from the gun Haven't thought of a garnish yet, but I like it. It's like a danky mushroomy bloody mary but somehow without tomatoes....
I've been dying for this for three years, excellent video. You gotta do Stamin-Up to complete the original set. Other than that? Maybe some widow's wine or some Vulture Aid Elixer, I always imagined that one would take inspiration from the real life Moxie original elixer.
I loved this one so much! I learned stuff and had good time doing it. The format is mature and feels like an old friend and you add to that by being this guy making drinks with a side of history and the art of drinks. Good all around!
Love the series and glad you followed up on it! I like how you went in depth with what the character said about it to know how to stylize the drink. I was a bit thrown off however when the colors did not match the in game sodas, I know it would be difficult to color correctly with the ingredients you went with but for example Deadshot could have had squid ink or something to make it black like the game since it is it's most eye catching feature. Overall great content!

9:54 prunes are actually a different fruit. I know this because I have two Italian prune trees in my back yard right now. You can buy fresh prunes at the grocery store.
If i remember correctly electric cherry did come into the game during the Alcatraz map. So eletric chair vibes make sense
Because you asked so nicely;
1) Stamin-Up
2) Widow's Wine
3) Stone Cold Stronghold (even though it's not a soda)
4) Double Tap Root Beer 2 (even though we've already seen DTRB1)
In all seriousness, though, great video! I was very entertained. Thanks Greg!
Since DTRB 2 packs more of a punch for less ammo cost, I think it would be cool if he did it as low sugar soda.
@@jfellsie that's brilliant! I didn't think of that 😅
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO MUCH LET'S GOOOOOO
The massive zombie fan in me would love to see you tackle both stamin up and widows wine, but I'm just so happy to see a ep2 to this little series you made, can't wait to make these later this year!!!
SHOUTOUT TO THE GREEN ROOM GOBLINS!!!
Green room like the famous comedy shop
Awesome video! I’d love to see Stamin-Up, Widows Wine, Vulture Aid and Tombstone Soda.
I found you from mrtlexify’s reaction video to your original perk-a-cola video! I’ve been subscribed ever since! This is awesome!
I would love this as a series
Im so glad i got recommended this and i dont even drink. I watched the first one and loved it
Im not on the discord anymore to suggest it, but a periodic "update" video on just bar stuff you've worked with more, purchased, or changed would be great. Not even through this episode yet, you've talked about changing the way you make ginger syrup, and are using the removable bottom bottles that you weren't sure of yet since you didnt get to use them much.
The first video was how I found out about your channel, good to see the part 2 finally came out!
Been playing a ton of zombies recently so this is perfect. Coming through as always Greg what with the "catered to my interests" and such.
I guess as some deeper explanation for you greg on alot of the lore,
Samantha Maxis is the daughter of one of the head researchers of group 935, Ludvig Maxis.
To put it sinple, the lore of cod zombies over thenyears became a larger and larger iceberg of alternate stories, expansions, and even entirely different universes with no relations other than its a zombie gamemode in a call of duty game
Thenone i will note most is the zombies in infinite warfare, a story where a crazed film director (voiced by paul reuben) made a deal with the devil to make kany of his films real, and trapped 4 of his actors into these films.
Part 2?? Let’s gooo! I love perkacolas, hope he makes the rest! Even the custom ones like banana colada would be AMAZING!
Apparently Cherry Phosphate IS supposed to taste like almonds so I think you made it right lol. What an odd thing.
that electric cherry was so perfect and looked so good id kill for that !!
It's been a while and i forgot just how hard this guy goes with his B-roll. Everything is shot like he's doing a drink commercial
In Black Ops Cold War, the Perk Colas are detailed enough to see the ingredients.
Obviously alot of the perks have jokey substances like feline urea and a lethal amount of sugar but just a thought.
“It’s a 2.2 million views and I said it’s probably good enough…” good god I love you man thank you!
FINALLY, IT'S BEEN AGES
I actually have Darcy O'Neil's book after seeing it on Glen and Friends Cooking when he did a chocolate phosphate, and I have to say, it's a fascinating read.
This came out on my birthday. I don't know how you planned for it but thank you so much for the video!
I absolutely loved dead shot's perk jingle the rock and roll and the flow of it
I got this notification and instantly hopped off the video I was watching been waiting for a while ❤❤❤
That's the stuff
I'd honestly love to see how you do Stamin-Up,Tombstone Soda,Who's who,and Widow's Wine
Ever since Bistro Huddy dropped the bartenders' shaking style vid, my brain cannot handle a double-shaker shake 😭😭😭
I was listening to the talking heads this morning and you humming the song that was currently stuck in my head absolutely bugged me out, just thought you should know
Saw the Talking Heads reference coming, still appreciated it 🙂
stamin up, widows wine, vulture aid, tombstone soda, whos who.
Widows wine and stamin up would be fun to do also two of my favorite optional perks that i like to use
I LOVE CoD Zombies and watching you make the perks is a ton of fun. Some interesting ones I think you could do next are Tombstone Soda, Vulture Aid, and Who’s Who
Thank you so much for making the rest of the perks! I was always hoping you would make more!
4:50 can adhere to whatever you're dietary requirements *unless your vegan or vegetarian
Wild to think that the first video I saw of yours was the original Perk A Cola one. Cheers Greg!
Actually insane that chemistry equipment is being used here for these drinks. Loved that you continued this! Hope to see the rest.
I know booze seems to be what everyone gravitates to but your soda content is some of my favorite stuff. It itches s chemistry itch in my brain. Excited for Nuka Cola!
Darcy’s channel is fascinating. A little too scientific at times, but very informative
Electric Cherry to me makes me think of a collision of "Blue Razz" super citrus with cherry for some reason.
staminup, tombstone soda, vulturesaide and whos who- next please. avid fan of call of duty, this show, and drinking. these two videos are some of my favorite youve done.
Love this channel, it’s been with me for the last 7 years. I wish the algorithm would stop being lame about alcohol and just let you blow up like you should. I don’t even drink but I’ve always enjoyed this channel and the beautiful shots of beautifully colored liquid
Finally got around to watching this one and I loved it, I hope you do part 3, but if not seeing these 8 perks was already enough
Make my Piquancy Cocktail, its based on one I had at a michiline start Korean joint in Chicago:
1/2 ounce powdered orange drink (that's been to the moon)
1/2 ounce gochugang sauce
2oz Bourbon (bonded or barely legal preferred)
Mix the above, then top with crushed ice and a splash of lemon lime soda from the gun
Haven't thought of a garnish yet, but I like it. It's like a danky mushroomy bloody mary but somehow without tomatoes....
It would be really cool if you did the same thing for the Bioshock tonics
Would LOVE to see you do Widow's Wine, Stamin-up, and Vulture-Aid!
If you're going to invoke Malcolm McDowell, please use his all-time best performance - from South Park: "Hello, I'm a British person."
You should make Stamin-up, Widow's wine, who's who, and vulutre Aid
Been a fan of this channel for a few years. Is there an episode dedicated to after dinner drinks? If so, I haven’t found it.
@howtodrink you got 8 perks down, now to finish the rest, god I wish I could try them with you man they sound so good
I really hope the algorithm pushes this video so Greg continues it
I've been dying for this for three years, excellent video.
LETS GOOO IVE BEEN WAITING 3 YEARS FOR THIS!!!!!🗣🗣 I still watch the old video regularly 😂.
