    It is absolutely hilarious and I think culturally you would have to get that it is very Irish and British Isles humour. We do swear alot it is part of who we are and our humour on these Islands is self-deprecating, dry and close to the edge. In the USA people, think we are twee, but we are not. The Irish patter is spot on. ,

    My only complaint was holding a samhain festival in what was obviously June, going by the whitethorn blooming.

    Hi. I'm new to your channel and love it! I enjoy the way you give a brief yet thorough review without spoilers. Based on your recommendations I've enjoyed some good TV & movie viewing. Some I probably wouldn't have watched before seeing your videos. I appreciate you!

      I'm so happy to hear that! I'm glad you find them helpful and hopefully I've turned you on to some shows/movies you may have otherwise missed. I hope you have fun with Bodkin... the mix of dark comedy and mystery worked really well!

    A small request! Sometimes I'll watch one of your reviews and I'll try to watch the show/movie and it''s not out yet. Would love if you mentioned the release date either in the review itself, or the text below. Anyways, I'm off to find out if this one is on Netflix yet!

    I holidayed in Ireland with a buddy and more wild things happened to us in one week than you could believe! First evening, the Blue Lagoon in Kinsale, buddy goes to the loo get the beers in he says....by the time he gets back I've been bought 6 pints by some Irish lads swearing I had been boozing with them in Scunthorpe, I've never been to Scunthorpe but they would have it. Bodkin is so like it is, loved it.

    Is Bodkin supposed to be the placename? Because usually here in Ireland, a placename is an anglicised version of the original Gaelic name. 'Bod' in Irish means penis and Kin could be 'Cinn', the plural for heads!

      @MoviesAndMunchies  Месяц назад +4

      HAHAHAHAHA! Yes, Bodkin is the name of the town... but now knowing the etymology, that is outstanding!

    I tried on three different red herrings for size, but ultimately found the mystery the least engaging element. The characters dialogue and the performances are good fun. Dove is the least likeable, and that is saying something as Gilbert is cringe personified on top of being a dope. But I could see Dove carry a spin off series as she has a way of detonating every scene, without much effort. Normally I believe you have to like the main character a bit, Dove is the exception to the rule. I would cross the street if I saw her walking my way. But I would watch another series with her unraveling a story with smarts while leaving a wake of victims suffering from her brand of blunt force emotional trauma. 😅

      I'm sorry did we watch the same show? Dove thumbled the bag hard when it came to that old nun interview. Also how was Gilbert cringe? He was just your average loud nice American. Your acting like he went around calling people sigmas and saying he had that skibidi rizz

    • @andgainingspeed
      @andgainingspeed 29 дней назад

      @@freddiemedley5580 Which interview? The first one with the nun where she cleverly found out where her room was, or the second one where she was tripping hard? Gilbert seemed like a bad stereotype of the surface level "nice" American who is cluelessly self involved, and doesn't see or care what is going on around them. Buffon is the word they used on the show. Maybe I should have used it as well, since other people watching may have not had the same cringe feeling? It didn't get in the way of my enjoyment. The show used it to great comic effect. Both characters had their share of mess ups, but Dove actions seemed more in service of driving the plot forward. At least neither slept with "sh1t pants" in service of a red herring.😅

    Convoluted. Up to the middle of the 4th episode and lost track on who's who of the secondary characters and how they relate to the main plot. Great premise, dialogue and scenery, but muddled story telling.

    I enjoyed the character development more than the mystery itself. I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

    I thought it was very good. Its not a comedy though in my opinion. The story is very good. The ending left a nice opening for a possible second season. I hope there will be!

    I would like to add that although comedic, the guns and crime depicted in Eire is very real, including hit men from the North. There are many illegal guns in Ireland and lots of people disposed off in the Dublin Hills. There is a depth of truth to the characters - Shamus and the mob after him.

    Tonally, its all over the place. (The bad language, in particular, very jarring). Pointless and unnecessary subplots. Very annoying female lead. Ridiculous direction and plotting...Strangely watchable! 🤷‍♂️
