Recently one of my friends had an interesting idea of traveling to Dungtsho in a day. We were of 5 boys and a girl. We started early in the morning. We could begin our uphill trek towards Phajodhing at around 6 am. The way is pretty good and you will enjoy the trek. It took us around 1 and half hours to reach Phajodhing. You will breathe the fresh air and take a good look at our capital city.
The next spot is Thujedrak, which gives a much better view of Thimphu town. Climbing up, the highest uphill point beyond Thujedrak will reveal the worthiness of stiff uphill and hard trek. This point reveals all the greatness and serenity of traveling to Dungtsho.
The places covered with snows, dwarf giving a view of the whole area, and snow-covered ranges around. The trek becomes sightful with so many good scenes and in fact, the path is pretty favorable then. We met many lakes on the way. The first-ever being the Phagtsho, which you will see just on the way. Then we saw a big lake bit below the way so-called Seem Kota. This is believed to be the Skin of a demon that was peeled off by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.
There are many lakes like Ja Nag, Dungtsho Sham, Doedrukpi Latsho, Tsherim mi Latsho but we could not recognize them all since we traveled for the first time. There are many important sites like the funeral sites for the child which we missed too.
Dungtsho is one the biggest and famous lakes of all. So We went there. That day was auspicious and the weather favored us too. You will surely feel the greatness of walking 5-6 hours through the snows and mountains when you reach here. On top of all, what we heard and what we have seen on that day will surprise all but some might feel funny too. Few moments before we left Dungtsho, we heard a loud sound like something big falling into the lake, not once, around 3 times. There was another team with us too then. I was a bit scared to hear such. But to our surprise, we have seen a clear image of a conch in the middle of the lake for around 3 minutes. It’s after this, we knew the real meaning of Dungtsho,” The Conch Lake.” All of us who could witness this felt satisfied and all were happy. We then came back and it took us around 4 hours to reach Phajoding. There is a way to Jigme Langtsho too.

We had no idea of the way nor did we have anyone from our team who knows the way. The ways are clear and good enough.
Last question when is the best time to hike to Dungtsho?
I feel it's best to hike around April and May because we saw snow in the morning while going up and ways are cleared from snow while coming back. Weather was also pleasant too without rain. Thank you
