    That would suit me down to the ground if it were about £15k. I am amazed that the ZE40 I bought in 2017 for £17800 is so competitive on range still and prices seem higher than then. Another good used buy. £32 k is more than a discounted new Mercedes SLC costs!

    They are giving away the Honda e because people don't want to buy it ? Could you point me to a dealership which does that ? It certainly isn't the case in my neck of the woods. Quite the opposite : prices aren't negotiated and waiting lists get longer and longer.

    Seems to be standard for legacy manufacturers to pad the price of the EV equivalent to the petrol version by £10k at least. They really do not want us to buy too many EVs whilst they are still trying g to milk the ICE for a few more years.

    • @digitalfotonetz
      @digitalfotonetz 3 года назад +3

      Here in Germany you can get the EV version for around 25k€ and the petrol one for around 20k. So not that a big diffence.

    James, whenever you do videos by yourself the audio is quite often one sided. Can do something with your equipment to rectify this? It's rather off putting for those of us that use headphones. When Kate does videos, the audio is usually in stereo, so I can't quite fathom why yours is one sided and Kate's isn't, unless you both use different equipment of course.

    You tested the Cabrio 500e with costs more than a regular 500e. The 500e starts at £20495 for the Action to £27495 for the La Prima with plug-in grant. This car you tested with a cabrio roof would if ICE would be a 500c which cost more the the 500 fixed roof. The Cabrio Passion is £26495 and the La Prima Cabrio £30495 with grant. The Cabrio adds an extra £3000 for a canvas roof La Prima. The basis 500e is not bad value in my option.

    Interesting that you thought the price would come down and lots would be available. It's now nine months later. I've been trying to buy one for the last 3 weeks and there just aren't any available, they're all getting snapped up. I finished up buying an ex demo car, same speck as the one you're testing. I agree, pricey but Fiat have given the punters just what they want. Well done Fiat and thanks for the review.

    Hey, James. Good review. I think it would have been good to mention that the basic 500 electric is on Fiat’s UK website at £20,500. Sorry if I missed it. No sunroof, obvs. I think they will probably start making cheaper models of the Cabrio as time goes on. It could be fun to do a shoot out between the 500 and a Smart Fortwo (ignoring the battery size differential).

    • @MrKlawUK
      @MrKlawUK 3 года назад

      its a great price but the tiny battery and range, plus its really a base spec mean you could really argue the base 42kwh version is better value. But if you can live with the lower range (70ish miles?) around town its a good price

    I love this Fiat EV, but in general, the 🔋🔋 do have a long way to go before it can provide real long distance journeys. The other hiccup is charging times and if you live in a community complex with no electricity in your open carport, you're screwed! Until prices become truly affordable and the range on a full charge is really great, then EV's would make a real impact.

    We were moments away from pressing the "order" button on my salary deduction lease last night. The cabriolet came in at £255 a month (nett and inclusive of insurance and servicing etc). The only issue was we've been sharing our main car (EV) since the pandemic as I'm now 99% a home worker and couldn't justify leaving an e-tron in the drive unused all week. Gutted, as we really love the idea of having a rag top.

      My wife currently has a the ICE version of the Fiat 500 model and she loves it !. It is a very popular car with the ladies. My daughter has owned three 500's and currently has the Abarth version. I would love my wife to have the 500e to sit alongside our other EV. But at that price, it is not going to happen I am afraid James. It is a real shame, because a LOT of current owners could be tempted to go EV. But the price point is just too high I think. Unless money is no object of course.

    Still too expensive by a very large margin. When the better Chinese EVs come in the next couple of years and the new small Tesla comes, they will have to drop the price. They are still only making them to avoid emissions fines for their profitable ICE vehicles. The production numbers are tiny by comparison.
    All that is a shame, because it’s a decent EV.

  • @grahamjohnson4702
    @grahamjohnson4702 3 года назад

    With that price level it seems strange that Fiat promise that all their EV's will be priced around the same as their ICE models in the near future, when Fiat goes electric only.
