The 1976 "A Star is Born" with Streisand & Kris Kristofferson is my favorite of the four movies. I love their chemistry and Barbra's singing is positively brilliant. Lady Gaga is a wonderful singer but she can't compare to Barbara Streisand's clarity and pure vocal tone. There are a scarce few who can.
You might enjoy Barbra singing the Oscar winning song, "The Way We Were" from the 1973 movie of the same name. She stars opposite Robert Redford.

Barbra coming along when she did suggests divine intervention. She was so young when she started, and so versatile, that she was able to move through the decades embracing so many different musical styles and genres and doing them all brilliantly. This is one of her best signature songs.

Thank you Jerald! Music by Barbra. Lyrics by Paul Williams. They would share the Oscar for Best Song in 1976. It was the second highest grossing film that year. "Evergreen" spent 3 weeks at the top the charts and the movie's soundtrack spent 6 weeks at #1.
You might want to expand your ASIB viewing by a day. 😊 I claim there are five version of "ASIB", the first being "What Price Hollywood?" in 1934. The 1937 version borrowed so heavily on its story line that executives from RKO (the first studio) considered legal action against Selznick International the studio producing the 1937 version. The director of "What Price..." was even approached by Selznick to direct the second version, but he declined because they were too similar. But he did direct Judy's version in 1954!
Someone mentioned a reaction to "Prisoner". I second that. 😊

This movie, Streisand's version, is my ultimate favorite. It was an amazing experience for me in my school days, it ruled my world. Loving Barbara extended from the "Funny Girl" days and "On a Clear Day" era when show tunes absolutely captivated me, her voice, like Aretha, just one of a kind. Pure beautiful vocals.
I bought this "A Star is Born" lp....played it religiously back then, "Evergreen" was all over the radio...so anyone who hasn't seen this movie version, please see it. It is a long one, I cried near the end, and Barbara has some great songs in the movie, they are forever stuck in my head, "Queen Bee" "Lost Inside of You" "Evergreen" and my favorite that makes me cry for her character, "With One More Look At You"/"Watch Closely Now" finale of the movie. Beautiful. 💙🌺

I’m glad the younger generation is starting to appreciate the legends from the past. Also not just sticking to music of their own race and going beyond and evaluating as great music. I say this bc I’m a boomer and use to listen to all firms of music and back in the days ppl. stuck to their own music and didn’t venture out. Like you don’t see many blacks listening to rock or show tunes and that needs to change.

Streisand’s version has some writing and editing problems at times but there’s some wonderful scenes and music in it. Streisand is GREAT in it.

And agree, however whilst Streisand’s version is my favourite, and that is mainly because of her musical performance which at times is beyond brilliant and whose vocals at all times is absolutely faultless, sadly it is the script that lets the movie down and it’s apparently all down to certain issues that occurred during filming. Kristofferson’s self admitted alcohol abuse, Producer and then Streisand’s boyfriend Jon Peter’s jealous rages over the love scenes, and allegedly Streisand’s disagreements with Director Frank Pierson. It kind of shows throughout the movie that there were issues, and quite rightly as you add editing problems. However that all been said whilst I did enjoy both the Judy Garland version and of course Lady Gagga’s celebrated and nominated performance, I found the latter to be overlong, heavy and, I have to say this because it is true, possibly only one memorable song to emerge from it, as opposed to Streisand’s version which had great songs. Who can forget that scene when she steps out on stage and belts “ Woman in the Moon” or the quirky “Queen Bee” that final scene when the camera sits in her for a solid 7 mins and she delivers “Watch closely now “ or the soulful “Lost inside of you” . But last but not least of course “Evergreen”, music written by Barbra Streisand lyrics by Paul Williams, which went on to win them both an academy award, she being the first woman to ever win an academy award for writing a song back then.

I love this! She talks in her book about how shy Kris was about singing this with her, she is literally trying to keep him there and then she screws up the lyrics. But this what is in the film and it is so sweet and genuine.

You Don't Bring Me Flowers - Barbra's duet with Neil Diamond live at the Grammys - ruclips.net/video/G_Q7BcvZ7fU/видео.html
She's has notorious stage fright so doesn't sing live much and this was a surprise performance at the end of the show that audience didn't know about.

Nice review. As a hardcore fan, I'm burned out this song, but this video is always worth watching - she's singing LIVE on camera in a recording studio (filmed in Panavision, no less). It's known that Barbra is NOT the best at lip syncing - all the music in the film was done LIVE. So this was a good choice to review, instead of listening to the single release which is slightly different than this film version.

Personally my favorite iteration of ASIB...Barbra and Kris were intense and believable imo; I just wasn't feeling or buying it between Gaga and Cooper, plus I felt there were too many scenes copied from Barbra's version; they should have made it truly their own, like Barbra's did from the Garland version. Garland's is my second fave version, but agree it's a bit long. Haven't seen the 1937 one yet, but plan to. Any song you pick of Barbra's will be fabulous, she's just a voice of a millenia... and so effortless, it's like lava flowing out of the mouth of a majestic volcano and the whisper of winds all in one. Power and finesse! Both "Piece of Sky" and "Prisoner" mentioned are great ones, but she's a can't miss in whichever ones you choose. You may want to feature the iconic duet between Barbra and Judy, "Get Happy/Happy Days are Here Again" from The Judy Garland Show back in the 60s, or Barbra's homage to Judy singing "Over The Rainbow" from Barbra's "One Voice" concert in the 80s. Whatever... I'll be tuning in. Thx for a great reaction to "Evergreen."

Are you watching the Judy Garland version of ASIB with the restored material? It must be because the "regular" (old) version is only ~2 1/2 hours long.
I'm going to commit heresy by admitting that I really dislike Ms Streisand's version of the film and a lot of the music in it feels cringy to me, but the final number's really good. Still worth seeing, but I'd probably choose any of her other musical films over that one.

It's probably the directors cut/extended version because I feel like it gets well into 3hours lol.
