The studio version of Yours Is No Disgrace is very good in it's own right...however this live version shows us what an energetic, rhythmic and involved Steve Howe was.
I am now 71 years old and I saw Yes on this very tour because I recognize their clothes. To this day I have NEVER heard a band play such difficult arrangements with such perfection. Head and shoulders the best concert I ever saw and no one was in their league and I saw every band imaginable. You don't see many bands playing YES songs because they aren't good enough musicians. By the way guys...keep up your Steely Dan journey. You won me over with your appreciation of all of their music library. Fagen and Becker were my favorites from the first time I heard "Do It Again" sometime in 1973!
One of the best videos of Yes bassist Chris Squire is from this same film, Yessongs. "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish" features Chris on "The Fish." His playing in concert was legendary, and he is missed. Yessongs is a great concert movie by one of the two or three most interesting bands in music. Thanks for playing live Yes!
Rick Wakeman and his big cape takes me back to 1972 when they came to town. It's hard to believe all the great bands we could go see back then. All you needed was $5 and a free night.
By not listening to the studio version, you guys missed out on how YES' sound engineer Eddy Offord used these great panning effects between the two channels, which were being experimented with in those days, as stereo recordings were less than a decade old in rock & roll. First listeners love it & comment on it but you won't hear it unless you now do the studio version my guys... ( _and_ it features Bruford on drums)
Thanks for taking me back 40 plus years when I last saw Yes live and I had long hair! That was psychedelic jazz progressive with special guest appearance by Gandalf on keyboards! 🙃
I've loved Yes for 47 yrs., have seen them 5 times in concert and they still send a bolt of lightening up my spine everytime I hear them! That was fantastic! RIP Chris Squire, you were a true virtuoso. You'll forever be in our hearts. 💕 😢
This is from the Close to the Edge Tour; the fall and winter of 1972-73. I just started my freshman year at Morehouse and a friend convinced me to check them out. After this concert I became a lifelong fan of Yes. I was profoundly impressed with the viruosity of the members of group; but Steve Howe was an absolute beast!
Yes has or had a concert movie I went to back in the day. It was played at midnight and I saw it when I was young and it blew me away. Thanks I like watching your reaction videos it brings me back to my younger days and it give me reason to revisit this stuff and you both do a really good job of breaking it down and I am even learning new stuff about the music I never even thought of!
This is no question a great performance, but the audio leaves a lot to be desired. This is one time that I wish that you had reacted to the studio version. Steve Howe’s guitar solo isn’t on it, but I think you would’ve gotten a better overall feel for the track. But regardless, the performance here is outstanding! I’ve seen Yes 25 times over the decades, and I never felt cheated! In fact, the first time I saw them was in November of 1972. About a month prior to this performance.
You guys are on fire today! My favorite Yes song, but the sound quality here is really bad. Highly recommend checking out the studio version to get full appreciation of the song. Great stuff! Thanks guys
I saw them twice in the 70's. To date, they are the best shows I've ever seen and I've been to many. When it comes to progressive, they are beyond compare. They have influenced so many bands.. my absolute favorite...
@@melvinwomack3717 Interesting you mentioned that. I was 17 traveling through Europe with friends the summer the members of Yes were working on that album. Can’t remember the city in Switzerland, but crossed paths with Rick Wakeman. He was using a church’s amazing, century old pipe organ to record some of his parts for the “Going For The One” LP. It wasn’t a secret. Everyone in town knew Yes was there and working. There were mobile recording trucks and quite a lot of cables running between the mobiles and the church. Bought the record back in the States when it was released, and I would sit and focus on all of Rick’s work, listening to all the easily distinguishable parts from that organ. Howe of course is remarkable as well. It’s been a favorite of mine ever since. I think I still have some pics and postcards of the inside of the church somewhere. Saw them tour it, “in the round.” It’s been awhile, but I remain an avid Yes, and Classic Era music fan to this day. Just an analog kid in a digital world. I know there are still a few of us left. Yes is one of the deepest prog rabbit holes. The solo albums from the members are all worth checking out. I especially love Bill Bruford's jazz fusion period.
Great. But love the studio recording best. This Album was my first Yes Album, age 15 in 1971. I’ll be seeing Jon Anderson Live, in less than 48 hours, in London. He’s 78 now and still sounds incredible. 🎶❤️🎶
I've been listening to Yes and Zeppelin more than everything else put together since the 70's, those two bands were on another level though completely different in style and technique.
Steve Howe is incredible, Chet Atkins was his primary Influence. Saw YESSONGS in the theater 5 times when it came out, ON ACID the first time haha.. If you can believe it, they opened up for Black Sabbath on some parts of this Tour in the US. Please do "AND YOU AND I" as well the BEST version you'll ever hear..
@@Zennofobic Yep haa, awesome huh! I know several older guys who saw the tour. Was just reading Geezer Butlers recent book, he talks about it. He said they did not get along with YES. You probably should have reacted to the STUDIO version first (you had no frame of reference while listening to this altered, live version). I wish that you guys (and all other reactors on RUclips) would always react to the studio versions first, for this very reason. I enjoy watching you guys; keep it up.
Fabulous choice! Best part of the music world I lived in was going to see these guys play live 8 different times in their prime. Each one is a hall of famer in his own right. When compared to the legendary guitarists, it is tough to compare him to anyone. He is his own animal. What an amazing guitar performance. Steve Howe won Guitar Magazine's best player 5 years in a row. They retired him after that, so others had a chance to win. He is so under rated & seldom even mentioned on the lists of top guitar players of all time, or at least way down the list. Yes, that was Chris Squire on the bass. Not sure if that was Bruford or White on the drums.
