I went to this event and I did like the food. The brisket literally melted in your mouth but in my opinion it wasn’t the most flavorful brisket. I personally never put sauce on anything I smoke but to each their own. The ribs were amazing though and so was the sausage. Thanks Jeremy for coming to KC. Hope to see you again.
Really fun vid, Jeremy! I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when you interviewed that "There's a snake in my boot!" guy LOL!!!! Bradley was great comic relief in a relatively serious video. Texas for the win every time - it's all I cook on my stick burner or kettle, beef or pork, and for the record I'm a lifer Buckeye (60 yrs).
I always love it when Brad makes a cameo. Y'all have some of the best bbq content on YT. PS... come to the PNW and teach these people how to cook decent bbq. ;)
really,? unless its infused with liberal tears in the PNW its a huge fail. I mean, if you were to put 16 mesh S and P the PNW would rank it a zero. Love yall
Thanks for coming! It was really awesome to see and talk with everyone. The meat was absolutely inspiring; my first thought upon trying the brisket was "Everything I've ever smoked was not barbecue, This is Barbecue!" That one bite taught me more about patience than anything else has.
OMG!! Brad’s B-Roll was the absolute best!!! I enjoy all of y’all’s content so much and even more so that it all overlaps. Keep up the amazing content 🤘😎
Very fun video with comments from different people with a different taste. I somewhere in the middle, I like my meat with SPG and a side of sauce to change the favor if I want too. I make my own rubs and always start with SPG and sometimes other stuff that might fall out of the cabinet depending on how early it is. Thanks for the video, loved it.
I’m from KC and love the BBQ here. When I make my yearly trip to Texas, I always grab some BBQ down there because it’s awesome. 2 different styles and both great.
I would have loved to have been there, I hope you guys come up to the Chicagoland area again. A near by town called Napierville usually runs ribfest every year if you're looking for an excuse! Also, I kind of laughed at your ad "Thinking about being more of an adult"... lol
I have had this argument with some Texas friends. As someone from Michigan we love over the fire grilling. We grill everything over the fire. Coming to Texas I noticed they smoke their meats, it was a huge adjustment but I have grew to love Big Tex barbecue. It’s all preference. And besides you cant pour sauce all over your meat and say it’s better than smoke…
Chud was the best!!! Hamm’s and BBQ are like a married couple! Lol I’m in NW IA and have had my share of multiple different kinds of BBQ. The more I do it, the more I go to SP or SPG. Let the meat and the wood do the talkin! Sauces and complex rubs are great, but masking a good cut or technique is just like putting makeup on a pig….there, I said. Haha
Being a Texan I'll say I like all types of BBQ. Its all about what Im in the mood for. I like cooking sauceless brisket for doing "breakfast, enchiladas, tacos, taquitos etc because usually Im adding a different kind of sauce. That smokey brisket makes for some crazy outside the box recipes! Expand your mind folks and get to cooking!
Born and raised Kansan, now living in Texas for 12 years. Traditional brisket and Sausage goes to Texas, Ribs & pulled pork & wings & of course Burnt Ends, goes to KC.
Oh, man .. "Best BBQ" is such a personal decision, going into another camp and saying "Mine is better .. Change My Mind" takes some Juevos ! Fantastic ! Makes me want to fire up the ol' 500 gallon pit and smoke some brisket. Now, where did I park that cow ? 🤣🤣
I was at there and other than the weather.really enjoyed it. I'm a bit of a nomad and have lived in all the bbq states, TX, NC and now KC with some years in KY. I like the simplicity of TX bbq but I also like a good sauce on the side. TX and KC bbq are a tie in my book. My wife and I ate on the mountain of bbq you served up for 3 days, thank you it was delicious.
@@jamesgunn5358 Yeah, you can't judge BBQ by what people do in a competition. They're there to zap your taste buds. But if you're not dumb, you won't fall for the cheap tricks. Good BBQ speaks for itself. There is no need to mask it's true flavor.
I always find it interesting when people try to prove to other people that the thing they like is better than the thing that the other person likes. If you don't like sauce then you probably won't like KC BBQ. If that's what you grew up with you're more likely to enjoy it. The best thing to do is allow people to try a variety of things and let them decide without pretense. Otherwise it's not truly academic.
Jersey boy here, so no skin in the game. Have lived in SW Virginia, Delaware, Texas and now in KC metro area. Have also spent lots of time in Houston, Austin and other BBQ areas of TX, as well as the Carolinas. I've eaten a crap ton of BBQ, and smoke my own almost weekly. In being objective, I like TX brisket above all else, as well as sausage. Being of German descent, love the influence of Germans on TX sausage culture. LOVE the KC burnt ends - there is no equal. From a pulled pork perspective (do they even have that in TX??) I'm torn between KC and Carolina (both types). Gotta give KC the nod for ribs (the TX ribs are too bland - ribs need both good rub and sauce). Nobody said anything about chicken??? KC chicken is the best.
Love this and love you’re and chuds channel! I lived in KC for over 20 years and love their bbq… I’ve started doing a hybrid between Texas and KC styles. If I had to try 1 or 2 places in Texas for bbq what would you recommend?
There’s too many great places in Texas! But to name a few you can try Goldees, Franklin, Valentinas, Terry Blacks bbq, Truth bbq, burnt bean bbq, 2 M smokehouse, Interstellar Bbq, Butters Bbq, The Pit room, Pinkerton barbecue. There’s so many you can’t go wrong
Well it’s true. Nothing beats Texas BBQ generally speaking and probably because so many in the state know how to cook it correctly. You still can get great BBQ in many places but you find more great BBQ all throughout Texas and the home cook.
Opinions are like door knobs everyone has one. The best BBQ is the one you like the most. Many folks never been to central Texas or Kansas City to compare the difference. Every State every city every small town has the best BBQ.
For brisket Texas for sure. Ribs though I’ve been underwhelmed by Texas style. I currently have a mishmash of style that I make that I prefer to Texas or KC
I "won" 13th place in my skool's spelling B and I bring it up to strangers at least twice a day. Also, you ever tried lemon pepper on a birthday cake?! Whoodang! Now thats sum flavor right there.
Gotta chime in here... loved the video & the whole "change my mind" idea! But I gotta say, each meat is it's own animal (literally & figuratively) Brisket: Texas style all day everyday! (Don't ever sauce a brisket) Ribs: saucy & fall off the bone (KC style) So I'd say it's a tie at the end of the day 😂
@tylerholt6828 Bogarts is my favorite, and Sugarfire has really good daily specials in addition to the normal items. Pappy’s is also pretty decent, but I think it’s a little overhyped. Stellar Hog and Navin’s are in my list to try, been a while since I’ve gone out to lunch.

Awesome video wish I could have been there. Being from Texas oh, I have to say I am partial to Texas BBQ. However I say that with a caveat. I prefer the flavor of Texas meat because I prefer tasting the meet over the spices. Pitbull salt and pepper seems to work for me. Sometimes I might throw a little garlic powder on there if I'm feeling frisky. The caveat is that I do prefer a sweeter sauce such as Kansas City Style. I find mini Texas sauces overpowering with the attempt to raise the Heat which is fine if you like that but I don't like spicy hot. Black pepper is about as spicy as I like to go. But that's what the sauce is for. Leave the meat alone let the sauce be your flavor layers. Just my humble opinion. But Texas is still King!
