- Young Dr. Kildare (Lew Ayres) comes to the aid of Gregory Lane, a down on his luck brain surgeon who has grown depressed over losing too many patients. But not only is Lane a rival for the attentions of Kildare's favorite nurse, but one of his recent patients appears to have gone insane. Directed by Harold S. Bucquet (Without Love, On Borrowed Time), the film also stars Laraine Day, Shepperd Strudwick, and the incomparable Lionel Barrymore as Kildare's mentor, Dr. Gillespie.

Used to be you could smoke in the ER until the 70s until the suddenly stopped it.
My children were born in 1982 and 1985. The first child, you could smoke in your hospital room. The second one, you had to go down the hall to the visiting room. 😏

Lew Ayres and Jack Lemmon look so similar. Not just physically, but characteristically as well. The enunciation. Could they be father and son?

My mom had to give up nursing school during the early 50s in order to marry my dad. I think she regretted that for the rest of her life. My dad ended not being the easiest person to live with and any chance of going back to school never came. She was a very caring and intelligent woman with natural nursing instincts. Having to choose between marriage and nursing was a stupid rule. Men never had to make such a choice. At least her four daughters came along to make it all bearable. ❤
