    These pets may also be good for those suffering from PTSD and psychiatric issues.

      Yes you are right. My cat helps me with my PTSD. I have videos on my channel of him helping me. He picked up on it naturally and I trained him from there.

    Even a blind senior knows that is not a cat. Most of what brings pleasure is the heat and the energy exchange of two living beings.

      But not everyone with dementia can tell the difference. They are too lost in their own reality. Besides, even if someone is aware that a toy isn't real, it can still bring pleasure, evoke memories, offer a sense of security, and alleviate loneliness and depression. I just lost my last kitty. She was only a few weeks short of 20. I haven't been without a cat in more than 30 years, but my current financial/living situation isn't stable enough for me to commit to adopting another cat right now. I've just ordered one of these to keep me company until I am able to get another live kitty.

    At first I thought this was a bit weird but its not much weirder than reborn dolls. Enjoy them. I hope they make robotic babies.

    I think a robotic cat or dog is great for seniors or disabled people who can't have a real one. Presently I know 2 owners of small dogs in my building being written up because they didn't pick up after their dogs. There's a third small dog owner whose daughter walks the dog before and after work, as well as pick up after it. Three write-ups means eviction.

    I think researchers are really missing what it is about javing a pet that feels so good and takes away the pain; caring for a living being.

    • @JenniferHuber-uq5ow
      @JenniferHuber-uq5ow 2 месяца назад

      No, the researchers know that. But these are being used as therapy animals for patients in nursing homes who have dementia. Often, they can't tell that their "pet" isn't real. Sometimes they do understand that it isn't real, but they are still comforted by it, the way a child is comforted by their favorite teddy bear. Either way, a lot of seniors are benefitting from them. I've read countless testimonials from health care professionals and family members of people whose quality of life greatly improved through the use of these "animals."

      Until they get old. It gets harder as they get sick. My last one was almost 20 when she passed, and she was on thyroid medicine twice a day for the last few years. Near the end, she was completely incontinent and in diapers. Cleaning up vomit and hairballs, litterboxes, accidents outside the litterbox, shed fur, grains of litter that get trailed throughout the house, etc. can be a lot of work - especially if the owner is older or disabled. Having a live cat makes it harder to travel. Vet visits, food, litter, treats, toys, cat diapers, etc. are expensive, and indoor cats can live to be over 20 years old. That is a long commitment. Not everyone is physically, mentally, or financially able to sign on for that.

    They can do much better in terms of the mobility and agility of these types of robots. These do not seem alive at all. I think that artificial muscles like layered/braided electroactive polymer muscles or something similar will lead to the capability of much faster, smoother and generally much more life-like animatronics. This will inspire robot developers to incorporate leading edge AI systems like types of deep reinforcement learning etc. But the first key I think is actually in more closely mimicking the degrees of freedom, complexity of anatomy, and agility of real animals.
    Once they do that, AI will go from being a joke for many people to being very real. Actually many people will mistakenly assume at first that these more agile, life-like robots have subjective experience or consciousness -- which the first models likely will not.
    They just need to keep working on the newer alternative types of robot mobility.

      They aren't robots, they are battery operated toys. Robots would have autonomous behavior, be able to ambulate, see, hear, sense their environment, etc.

      They do have much better nes but they are very very expensive more like a robot not a battery toy. These were created with a person with dementia or other types of conditions who can’t necessarily tell they aren’t real

      Yes, I fully agree with you but some people are not allowed to get a cat or any pet for certain reasons such as not having the time to take care of them, having allergies, your household doesn't approve of a cat, you don't have enough money etc.. So having these is better than nothing, although it's kind of creepy and it's not real and it won't give you true love it helps people such as me, I've wanted a cat for about a year or more now, but my father doesn't approve of getting a cat as he's scared of them so getting this fake yet realistic cat is the closest I can get to having a cat until I am older and can make decisions for myself.
