- Hey everyone!! Thank you so much for watching this video!!
First upload of the year omg??? and it's only been 3 weeks since I last uploaded! I'm trying to be more consistent with my content :D May have a slightly longer break however between this video and the next because I need new art footage and new storage for my laptop
The 2020 revival trend is something I'm really passionate about, it was a very wild time for me and I'm considering doing some story times about experiences I had back then! What was 2020 like for you? What do you think about this trend? Let me know!

100% Couldn't agree more. I was 18 at the time of England's original lockdown. All of my family were "Key Workers" for the NHS. We were terrified for their safety, and lost people during the pandemic. And while the internet brought a comforting release during that time, and almost an escape from the reality of the situation - I think a lot of people find it immensely insensitive to see children begging for another lockdown.
@itswattsfl it was a terrible time for lots of people :( and yeah I agree, the Internet made it brighter of a time but it doesn't take away from the fact it was overwhelmingly a bad time for the world and many families!! And it still impacts us today (rising cost of living etc as you'd know)
i also turned 13 the december prior to lockdown. and it was an incredibly disappointing and stressful period in my life. 2020 was ass. i wasn’t on tiktok at the time (i was one of those “tiktok is trash” reddit user types, which. yeah that tracks for a middle schooler) but i remember dealing with online classes, and not having the ability to talk to my friends. it was a horrible part of my life, especially since i was in a toxic discord drama and just. all around a trash experience.
the whole “bring 2020 back” “the internet was so much nicer in 2020” or “i wish there’s a new pandemic” or any of that is just. uninformed at best, purposeful ignorance at worst.
@sweetpeppers1 I was also not really on tik tok either!! I posted on there towards the end of the year but I didn't watch much content because I was also very anti tik tok, so I guess that's another reason I feel less attached to the trends but I still definitely experienced them through other apps and my friends who were alternative cosplayers for the most part. It was such a generally bad year though..
this is such a good video and your art is genuinely stunning!!
i was 17 when the first lockdown happened, turned 18 during the second (i think?) and while there was definitely a sense of escapism online during 2020, it's clear that the kids trying to "revive" 2020 tiktok were much too young to really understand how stressful everything was outside of places like tiktok. sure, people felt comfortable being alternative or "cringe" online, but we were also literally unable to leave the house to spend time with family and friends outside of those we actively lived with. i went months without seeing family that i've never went a week without seeing before, and it was one of the hardest times of my life. i missed out on so much in that year, and i think people who were super young during the pandemic don't understand how exhausting and scary it was just to exist during that time, especially when you have family members who were vulnerable to covid or were vulnerable yourself.
@revverencie I couldn't have put it better!! I feel like people around my age (2006-2008 born, 11-14 ish at the time) are the absolute youngest of the bunch who were old enough to remember the impact of covid, 2008 may depend on the individual but I have friends who are 16 now who were still relatively impacted. Its the people a few years younger than me who I've seen spreading this the most and yeah I think a lot are also trying to compensate for the fact they were robbed of their childhood and also have really bad fomo since 2020 was the last "defining year" in terms of trends and styles in a lot of peoples eyes! It was super exhausting for me and I wish it never happened, my life would probably be so much different and I wouldn't have developed the severe technology addicted habits I'm still stuck with today as a result of having nothing to do back then.
I totally agree tbh, I was 10 when covid happened and not on TikTok for me I fell into depression due to quarantine and fell really chronically online on discord like a lot of people back then (which I’m really happy I got out of and got help with from a therapist) but it genuinely makes me so sad to see a lot of people glamorizing a really dark time in the internet for a lot of people.
@Acoolcatwitjglassesbutonyt I feel really bad for you :( luckily I had no social media until I was 13 so late 2019 and I was kinda kept away from it while I was a younger child, roblox was my jam from 2016 - 2019, I'm sorry you missed out on your late childhood, nobody that young should suffer mental health issues!!! Nobody in general but definitely not young kids
@nah it’s Alr not like you could do anything to stop it but I do totally get the Roblox part I remember playing adopt me like crazy on Roblox back then too
I honestly participated a little in the trend because I liked some of the aesthetics, but I sure as hell am not wishing for another COVID😭 I was 12 when the pandemic started and I kinda skipped the majority of my middle school years, which impacted me a lot in the long run. Worst of all I think during that time I stumbled upon a lot of problematic people who my former cousin friend introduced me to. It was awful, just awful for my mental being, especially since I was so young and I didn't really have anyone to talk to during the pandemic. All that kept affecting me until about a year ago, when I started genuinely maturing and looking down heavily on the things the internet exposed me to at such a young age. It definitely fucked me up in more ways than one and I REALLY do not want 2020 to come back, I just really like some of the aesthetics. (I still cry when I remember those times I swear)
the aesthetics are fun! but people definitely blur the lines between the aesthetics prominent on the internet at the time and covid as a whole, I think people forget the internet was so "positive vibes" back then because we literally had to be "positive vibes" to cope
EXACTLY
Covid was very sad for me, my Grandma died in 2021 it wasn’t because of Covid though and it was very rough not being able to spend more time with her, she was only 64 when she had passed and I wish my younger cousins would have been able to know her more but Covid ruined that time that we could have spent with her. So I don’t particularly like people romanticizing it and also TikTok in general is just that alone is its own bag of monkeys.
@Ms.Fish.Exists yeah I agree, sorry about your grandma I hope you're doing okay!! :( she was still super young.. my parents aren't much younger than her, my dad's 60 this year and I couldn't imagine loosing them
4:17 oh my gosh i remember back then, people were all saying to stock up toilet paper and whatnot
@@gnoot50 I don't know why toilet paper was the biggest concern??? Like... you CAN use a flannel and wash it thoroughly each time you go to the toilet if you're absolutely desperate 😭 I always found that funny
Why are kids on tiktok so nostalgic for these things? I see it with the 2000s aswell with these people born in 2013 maximum saying they “miss the good old days” and how they loved “old internet” ((tends to be 4chan))… like man do these people even know there was multiple crises in the 2000s? The usa had 9/11, was at war with the middle east, AND had a housing crisis near the end. Sure it was simpler, but to say you want it back without even being conscious in the 2010s or being informed about the culture and actual time period is just stupid. I like the aesthetic and music of the 80s, but i know damn well i wouldnt like to live in it because of the cold war, war on drugs, etc.
I like 00s fashion, but I wouldn't really want to live then as a teen/adult. I think a lot of people yearn for the "old internet" because most of us, especially young adults and teens are so fried from how much we use technology. I think a lot of people really want the "simple times" of when you could just "hang out with your friends without phones outside" for hours on end which is how a lot of people too young to experience the 00s view it to be like. When people's online lives and real life lives were very separate and the internet was mostly just forum boards. I don't think what helps either is how some millennials speak about it and glorify it but the reality is if you look back at articles from back then, there was a huge concern around kids not socialising anymore!! Most kids were shut aways and didn't go out anyways, maybe more than today but not as much as emphasised and like you said there was the housing crash in 2008 among other things. I may not be old enough to remember the 00s as an 06, but it was definitely a shakey decade.
such an excellent vid as always puff. KEEP IT UP GIRLIE PIEE 😝😝
"Without expiring prematurely" possibly
Covid was a really hard time for most of us, just that some dont realise it at all. ALSO BANGER ART AND VIDEO
"I miss wearing bunny hats" "I miss cosplaying anime characters and filming Tiktoks to Mother Mother" YOU CAN STILL DO THAT YOU DON'T NEED A PANDEMIC TO HAVE FUN YOU DON'T NEED TO RESTRICT YOURSELF TO POPULAR TRENDY THINGS CRINGE CULTURE IS NOT DEAD BUT TOGETHER WE CAN KILL IT. Honestly I feel like what a lot of people really miss is not being ashamed of liking things.
@@doritodorito492 people always act like they're restricted to the current micro trends going around and its super sad
@PuffTastic I'm remembering that Tiktok where it was like "there's a time in every woman's life where they must choose between being coquette or being a femcel" and someone commented "or we could be people".
