I just enjoy watching you -- it's a bonus to learn the steps you so easily provide. I would not cut the tips any more; keep the integrity of the 'absent' band area. It is adorable. I had purchased a design but didn't want to try it until I saw your video. My granddaughter (she's 11) will love it. Keep these happy videos coming.
Love it! I have been seeing these in all the embroidery groups as well but have not yet tried it. I do my own digitizing and have recently made several large applique bows, one of which I used on the front of a sweatshirt with sequin fabric and one on top of a large pumpkin. Well looks like I'm going to have to make some longer tails and try the applique on the sides of sweatshirt for sure. I love the idea of cutting off the bands. This will make this project more affordable to try with lesser expensive sweatshirts. I definitely agree with cutting the sweatshirt while it's still in the hoop. One thing I do with my appliques is press the prepared heat and bond fabric with an iron while it's still in the hoop before the final satin stitch. I'm wondering if this will help to do that first before cutting the sweatshirt. Might just make it a bit more stable when cutting, IDK? I'll find out though. Thank you so much for the tutorial, I know everyones going to love it!
Thanks for sharing this step-by-step tutorial, Ashley! The satin stitching is so satisfying to watch especially knowing you're in the homestretch. I am so looking forward to making matching crewnecks for me and my two girls. They are going to love it!
You are such a joy to watch and learn from. Thank you, I didnt k now this was a trend. Where did you get your lovely headband from? Thanks for this wonderful tutorial
I have seen them posted all over Facebook and DBJJ has one free. It turned out super cute. Yes, I would put something on the front. Thanks for sharing.
What do you think about creating a svg file of the design and cut it out on the Cricut so you don’t have all that trimming to do? Works great on regular appliqué.
Thank you! its from Amazon!!!! lol isn't it the perfect Christmas Plaid!!! I have had that fabric in my stash just waiting for its moment to shine lol!!! Thank you so much for your kind words!
Thank you so much for the tutorial. The very first one I made, I cut into the stitches. So i am going to cut before the satin stitch. Thanks for the tip!!
@@TheMonogramMompreneur Thank you very much for taking the time to respond my question, although you provided me with the wrong link, I got it from someone else who asked the same question 😊… I am so happy I was able to try this gorgeous bow trend and even more happy with the results, I just need to get the heat gun to trim the edges…. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your knowledge …XOXO
The most informative video of this trend!! Thank you for sharing your uh-oh's as well as what worked best for you. I just found your channel and I am now a subscriber 😊
I think if you fuse the heat and bond first it might help seal the fuzziness and will make trimming easier. I have been watching how to make patches and I believe they trim after they fuse the heat n bond. Just a thought 😊
Yes! sometimes I use my circuit mini press but I was afraid to move the stitches lol!! Maybe in the next one I will show pressing before satin stitch! Thank you for the tip!
Just found your channel and subscribed! Love your choice of dark green sweatshirt with the red plaid fabric! So sew pretty😍. Thanks for sharing your techniques. Haven’t ever used a heat press nor a heat gun. Might give those a try sometime to see how I like them. Typically just use my domestic iron. Love your hooping station. Handy if you’re doing lots of shirts-which I don’t.😊 I’m strictly making one or two for myself and family.
Thank you so much for being here!! An iron for sure will work just fine too! And a lighter for a heat gun if needed! Yes the hooping station is super handy for hard to hoop items or for multiples but not necessary for sure!!! Thank you again for your kind words!
maybe a little fray check on the snipped stitch? Can i ask what size sweatshirt you ordered? i hate ordering clothing- lol- i never order the right size. I do like mine a little oversized
oh good idea!!! I will have to dig out my fray check!! Thank you! So I wear a medium and this is a medium unisex Gildan 18000. It is a little oversized but left room to cut the bottom band off!
I love your tutorial and I have watched several. Thank you for it. Everyone adds heat 'n bond to the applique fabric but I don't understand why - you are the first teacher to explain WHY. I also love your Christmas music - very appropriate. My vote is no more cutting. Maybe fray check on the cut threads?
Thank you so much!!! Aww great! I am so glad it was helpful, I try to explain like I would if I had a friend over and she was doing embroidery for the first time!!! Thank you so much for being here!
Yes I just found the designs/digitizers on Etsy. Their names are sometimes hard to say so I just call them Digitizers lol. On Etsy their shops are called: Artapli , Applique Alley , Kate and Rae Embroidery, and awstitchesdesigns . The specific designs I used are linked in the description of this video too ! Hope this helps!
Haha I love it!!! That's a perfect idea! 🎄 We live in Florida so, sometimes we get a chilly day for Christmas and sometimes it is beach weather on Christmas, so I guess I need to make some short sleeve options too!🎄 OK question ..what is your traditional Christmas meal in Australia?
Do you think this would be possible with just an appliqué and hand embroidery? No machine here I just happened to find your video and think this would be perfect for a Christmas gift
Love it soooooo much. Definitely going to try this. You mention that the Mighty Hoop is 13 inches, but your machine hoop is 12 inches. Can you help me understand how you can use a hoop that is 1 inch larger on your machine please. I ask because I am on the verge of getting this machine and we all want the biggest hoops we can get right, LOL Thanks so much for sharing your work with us.
Good Question!!! So this Brother Embroidery Machine won't stitch past 12 inches you are correct! So it won't stitch past 12 inches (it's actually less than 12 inches)..but this mighty hoop still fits! I just prefer this 8x13 hoop for big items like sweatshirts ! It fits in the same bracket size of the big hoop (8x12) that came with my brother machine! I hope this helps answer your question!!! Excited for you! Thanks again for your kind words!
Thank you for your video and all your tips. Do you have the link for the second Christmas tree design you shared? I tried searching for it but I can't find it.
You are welcome!! Yes they were so brand new when I filmed they were just getting listed! Here is the link to the second Christmas Tree: appliquealley.com/collections/new-designs/products/satin-split-christmas-big-christmas-tree-8332aaeh .That one she didn't post to Etsy so I had to find it on her website!
Yes...so some people like to use a lighter to seal the edges, prevent fraying, and just clean up it up....I do not like using an open flame lol so I use a heat gun and it draws in some of those fibers you weren't able to cut off! hope this helps explain!
yes exactly it just cleans it up! other people use a wood burning tool or lighter. We just have a heat gun for puff embroidery and I don't do good with an open flame! haha
Honestly that might be easier to get it lined up just right. Apply heat and bond light to fabric. Trace a bow design on the fabric and cut it out. Iron the bow on the sweatshirt in the proper place. Cut the slit in shirt. Use a machine zigzag stitch to cover the raw edges.
some people like to use a lighter to clean up the edges and prevent fraying, it seals the fabric and thread.....I prefer a heat gun versus the open flame lol, I have burned to many things!!! Hope this helps!
