      alright so here is the issue with the markarth mod, it's super heavy, the city was already super heavy in the vanilla game which made it difficult to go there, but with this mod, it is now is super laggy to the point of it not being fun to play.
      unless the modder did some major performance fixes, this mod will be preform very badly for most users, now i'm sure you have a beefy machine and maybe a few tweaks that make this run a little better, but we all know how bethesda games work and the limitations of the engine and how it functions when there are to many assets within any given location.

      this area of the game has always been super laggy for me, even the vanilla fps are struggling in some places near the entrance.
      and i have used many mods that alter the entrance of this place and they always end up being under 40fps.

    Seeing cinematic Skyrim shots makes me wish there was a mod that turned waiting into a montage with your character sandboxing around at different areas kinda like Rockband loading screens. Or cinematic camera mode from GTA/RDR. This would be dope. The idea of your character doing more than just standing in one place for hours on end, show them doing something! The game is already loading character movement and lighting changes. Why not make it interesting to wait or sleep?
    Another game that kinda touched on this was FFXV with the camping sites.

    Always thought that what they should have done to expand the city is build a series of "quarters" based on the races like having the Redguard quarter where you pass through a large door (loading screen) into a dwarven hall with multiple levels and a main open hall with a few market stalls as well as a tavern with a room to rent at the back. Most of the residents would, of course be Redguards, but with a few other races mixed in as well as a couple of guards patrolling the area for thieves. Set it off the main city by placing it at the base of the steps leading to the purchasable hall in the city. Set some of the NPCs up to travel in between the main area and the quarter. Carrying water or going out to other shops or the main tavern or the Treasury House. Likewise have an Imperial Quarter and or a Nord Quarter.
    That way you build a bigger city, but that city is built using the Dwarven tendency for building underground and building for a few families to live together. But with the closer to ground level areas having been completely cleared out of Dwarven contraptions and other threats. Also reduces the clutter adding too many things to the main area creates.

    i personally always feel like markarth should be a lot more. i honestly felt like that about all skyrims "cities" everyone living either in tents or taverns, only the rich noble families having there own home, lack of infrastructure fitting to call it a city, markarth in particular feels really scaled down. i understand its so you don't have a daggerfall experience of endlessly wandering a vast empty space, but i feel you can still have things in the spaces to where its an actual town with winding turning streets and homes for people.

    • @antiochus87
      @antiochus87 2 года назад +2

      Yeah I agree. I'd like to see a mod where someone had taken one of Skyrim's "cities" and actually turned it into a city.
      E.g. taken the basic layout of the city and expanded it dramatically. You go through a loading screen to get to any of the "big" cities anyway, so it doesn't need to affect the general map.
      These larger cities should have more people, more shops, and houses appropriate to a medieval city but also take inspiration for the lore. More foot traffic, more trade. More quests and crowds. Everything.

      @@berilsevvalbekret772 I'd like to see someone take a new lands approach to Skyrim's "cities" and rebuild them from the ground up on that scale, just keeping the basic layout and existing buildings while also expanding the cities massively to an appropriate scale, using real world Medieval cities and lore for Inspiration. You go through a loading screen for the "big" cities so it doesn't even need to interfere directly with the general world map.
      It would of course be a massive undertaking for even one city, especially with all the quests that overlap, but it would be truly awesome.

    I feel like Markarth just felt small and yet dizzyingly confusing. If there was one city you could get away with splitting into a few cells even for the public areas itd be the city where the people who lived underground used to live. Maybe a market in the mountain for the citizens with the jarls hall at the end so the outside portion was a few things like an inn and silverbloods etc for travelers with the citizens living in a mix between the two areas. Also a dwarven city built on a deposit of silver? Surely the dwarves had some method of smelting that would be as preserved as the rest of the city that could act like the smelter equivalent of the skyforge

    I'm not against improving Skyrim one bit, but Markarth is probably one of the most interesting settlements in all of Skyrim, it's probably one of the few places that needs Mods the least.
    🛡 it's verticality and spiraling-up design is unique to most settlements in the game.
    🛡 it has some of the more interesting side quests in the game, Namira, Calcelmo, Forsworn King, Molag Bol [War Dog(s)].
    🛡 it has some of the best mines in the region [especially if you have Mods like Missives installed].
    🛡 it's large size makes it interesting to explore the "darker corners" of the city [especially with Mods like LoTD and 3DNPC].
    🛡 if you have "Skyrim Sewers" installed, it has some of the best Underworks in the game, probably second to Windhelm.

      ...another thing, how is it that Markarth has a thriving East Empire Company building? Last I checked, there's no safe waterways in the The Reach, most of their money comes from farming, property and Mining [thus the Silver-Bloods conflict]. This Mod is seeming a bit unfriendly to the Lore 06:08. 🤔

      That could be interesting. Farms in Skyrim and tiny gardens at best, and who and how the farms are worked is really not explained.
      Do they use slaves? Serfs? Peasants? Do they use animals to pull ploughs? If you think about these questions it could help with world building and mod ideas a lot.

    Looks great. Aside from the trees in the city. It doesn't seem like it fits. The Reach is exactly the type of place that doesn't have a lot of foliage and has a very rocky, stony terrain. It's not missing something, it's not Bethesda being lazy, it's just a specific type of terrain. Other than the trees it looks great.

    I have a mod that adds new textures to Markarth and Dwemer ruins with new stone Textures. CleverCharif is the mod author. I also use Skyrim Underground and Skyrim Sewers that add more Dwemer Ruins. Also have you play a game called Darkest Dungeon? Cause i found a Skyrim mod that adds that games Stress Mechanic to the game and another that adds followers from it too.

    I always felt that Markarth was intended to be a Gondor-esque style city built upon the mountains. Unfortunately, i don't think it got the time need to iterate on the design to really make it special.
    imagine if they had a crescent half moon style city, with tiers. palace on top with a noticable central shrine building as a spine. all carved and built like a mechanical craft imposed on the rock.
    instead the city felt like it was just buildings scatteredly built into the cliffs without a specific plan.

    • @nicholaslangheld8394
      @nicholaslangheld8394 Год назад

      Whiterun is obvi rohan.
      I think it would also be cool if they had some overly dwarven aspects. like the open giant gate e.g. erebor or ironforge.
      yeah, ideal markarth crescent wall, with a tier steps. Singular central tower like shrine building. the tiers lead to a enormous open stone cut gate with secondary under ground interior section, lava dwemer tubes, etc...

    It's crazy how they made an ancient dwarven city still populated by modern day people the most boring city in Skyrim. I always used to hate it because it felt like Skyrim gave you 4 unique cities, and one that was just a ton of repurposed dungeon assets. though lowkey, I've really come around to Markarth in recent years mosty thanks to mods.
