  • Join us as we visit one of the most prominent aftermarket manufacturers of exhaust systems. Fujitsubo Giken is A well-known supplier of all OEM parts and respected in the industry for its quality and craftsmanship. We go behind the veil of a top JDM exhaust maker, secrets of Fujitsubo: an exclusive factory tour byJDM Masters. We have the rare opportunity to visit their factory and see behind-the-scenes how these high-quality products are made first hand. Japan is known for its outstanding manufacturing capability and excellence in quality which is consistent and efficient in manufacturing.
The meticulousness in detail of quality control extends to just about every other industry. But today we take a look at components that are important to call tuning and motorsports.
These days, Fujitsubo is known for one thing only: its high-performance exhausts. If you are anything like me, you’d think that the business has its bread and butter in supplying the aftermarket and race teams, but most of their volume is supplying Japanese carmakers with the ‘stock’ exhausts for their performance models.
Most notable is the Nissan R35 GT-R. I’ve now seen the internals of the stock muffler and - although I wasn’t allowed to photograph it - can assure you that the design is much higher quality than some of the other aftermarket systems I’ve seen installed on cars. And people wonder why their R35 doesn’t make any more power after dropping big bucks on a fancy-looking system.
Fujitsubo also supplies lots of smaller tuning companies as an ‘OEM,’ meaning the systems are designed and manufactured by Fujitsubo but sold under a different name. This is common in the automotive aftermarket and allows companies without the huge R&D and manufacturing power of a specialist like Fujitsubo to provide high-quality systems to their customers. In fact, there was a lot I couldn’t photograph for the risk of exposing proprietary design details.
Nothing is stronger than tradition at Fujitsubo, but the engineering team continues to pursue new technological approaches to optimize the design and manufacture of high-performance exhausts. They realize that the principles of good exhaust design persist, yet the demands of the modern consumer continue to change.
Making bucket-loads of top-end power with just an exhaust is not always possible when factory designs are already so optimized, and the prevalence of turbocharging in modern performance cars means an ECU-tuned increase in boost pressure is often a much easier path to bigger numbers. “Today, most customers are more concerned with achieving a certain sound or style,” observes Fujitsubo-san. “But our starting point is always the highest performance; from there we will pursue sound tuning and aesthetics.”
In a highly competitive industry for aftermarket exhaust systems. Mufflers and exhaust manifold Fujitsubo has a history that extends to pre-war days when the founder started with motorcycles before building the company to be recognized as an industry leader.

My Evo I imported back in January came with a Fujitsubo exhaust, I thought it was a "cheaply built" exhaust. It had dulled and was dirty when I finally got my car. About 2 weeks into having the evo I decided to clean up and polish my exhaust. It was then I realised the welds were exquisite, no stress on the bends, seriously good quality. I researched Fujitsubo and I'm really proud to have it on my car.
Thank you for allowing me the chance to see where my very exhaust system was made!
    Fujitsubo fan now ❤👌
