The head switch normally happens in the last few lines of video, usually overscan on the CRT monitor would cover that up. They don't want the switch happening during vertical interval on home VCRs due to time base errors which might corrupt the vertical sync enough to cause the video monitor to lose vertical sync and roll vertically. Professional and broadcast tape would normally use a TBC (time base corrector) to correct for this. In other words, the head switch at the bottom of the picture is normal for a consumer VCR, most TVs would overscan enough so you don't see this. Thanks for the video, I have a SL-2300 here that I need to repair.

I have the same model with the same problem. Could you explain in more detail how you removed that loader assembly? I removed the three screws you pointed out but could not get it to fully release. Does something else need to be disconnected?
