    @cassiespencer6134 5 лет назад +3

    How something 'feels' is not always indicative of what it's actually doing. For example, although it may feel right, it may or may not be an improvement. And the only way to determine that, with a car in this case, is to compare before and after lap times for example. Although there's more to it than simply saying so. There need be an established baseline lap time on a known track that can be repeated consistently with a predefined variation permitted. Of course weather and track conditions must be as equal as possible during each test if they're on different days. And ideally, going a step further and obtaining the same data under varying conditions is also beneficial if one finds themselves in those conditions periodically.
    The point being such data is crucial since only then can one know if a change (a change to anything) resulted in an improvement or not. Again, how it feels may or may not be indicative of what is actually happening and only data obtained under real world conditions can reveal the facts.
    Note: I'm not dismissing a given technology or those who represent it. I'm simply stating this is how things are done in virtually all forms of engineering development, in this case as it relates to high performance cars.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  5 лет назад +2

      Absolutely correct! The owner has a lot of track time into the actual DSC unit though and while I can't speak to my specific track numbers odds are good he can. I didn't get the information from him but I'm sure it's an improvement. It may be more but it's worth it in my opinion.

    • @cassiespencer6134
      @cassiespencer6134 5 лет назад +2

      @@HorsePowerObsessed I'm glad you said that. It makes me happy. :) However, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with you, but in my experience with regard to high performance cars and their owners, many if not most, often tend to make claims with no real world data, which they personally obtained and have a record of in order to verify any changes. Be it an improvement, one which made no measurable difference or that resulted in a negative change. That also includes an adverse effect on something they may or may not have been aware of and thus made no effort to obtain data with respect to.
      Such is not uncommon when making a change. That is why the only way to truly determine if said change was for the better is continued experience over time on different tracks and in different conditions.
      Therein lies the advantage of something like the DSC controller for example. Say you find yourself on a track you've never been on before, with weather and/or track conditions you've never experienced before. You would first need to establish a base lap time. For example an average of several laps. And no, you don't get to cherry pick the best lap out of twenty. And frankly, sometimes your best bet is to leave it in/on the trailer. Unless of course you're there to test in the specific conditions at the time.
      Lastly, one thing I can say for certain is, that next to full-on race tires such as the PS2 Cup R, these tires (PS2 Cup) are nothing short of magical! I drive my car every chance I get and have yet had it fail to make me grin and even LOL at how insanely capable it is, which makes it very difficult for me to restrain myself. And it's not the power alone mind you. It's the chassis, tires and suspension. They dialed this thing up to 11. I've driven European exotics and the C7 in general is absolutely in the same league in many ways. Not all! But to me, it is with regard to those that matter to me.
      That brings me to the C8 since I’m often asked if I’m going to get one, to which I reply I probably will at some point. Although it won’t be the first model year, as tempting as it will hopefully be. I say that simply because of the fact they’ve never engineered a mid-engine car intended for production and retail sale. And experimental vehicles built decades ago don’t count for much, imo.
      Furthermore, and as I went into some detail in another post, mid-engine designs have some inherent quirks not typical of front engine cars. And yes, I know, some people claim the Corvette is ‘technically’ a front mid-engine car. Although they’re not. It’s not as simple as the engine being behind the front axle and forward of the driver, verses in front of the rear axle and behind the driver. It’s not the mechanical differences alone. It has far more to do with where the mass of the engine is in relation to the rest of the vehicle. With mass being measured as weight. Therefore, when a car is stopping for example it becomes a matter of what that physical mass (weight) is doing, in a 'virtual' sense. That being the weight, virtually speaking, transfers forward, which greatly aids in front tire traction as well as rear tire traction since the actual mass of the engine remains over the rear wheels.
      And that’s great for a variety of reasons, but there's also a dark side. One many do not realize. And it's something inherent to a mid-engine design. In short, although they handle very well most of the time, they also have some occasionally unpredictable tendencies as well. The classic example being unlike a rear wheel drive vehicle where the engine is in the front (Corvette) or the rear (some Porsche's) the rear end may not always, and predictably so, slide out in the same manner it does with conventional setups. Instead the entire vehicle goes sideways off the road, whereby counter steering does nothing to stop it. I know since I’ve experienced it and was aware of the possibility beforehand. Thankfully there was plenty of surface and I didn’t hit anything. Nor did it spontaneously burst into flames as a certain Ferrari was known for. ;)
      I say that since some C8 owners may experience something similar. It’s why I recall mentioning the active handling system will likely be improved upon and tested for the mid-engine car, perhaps to a greater degree than it has been. Simply due to the limits being greater and the fact that, generally speaking, when a mid-engine car loses grip the driver often goes along for the ride since there’s nothing they can do at that point. Therefore, preventing that condition from occurring is more important. That’s one of the advantages of ‘fly-by-wire’ systems; they protect one from themselves. Although one can still manage to screw up if they try hard enough. And thus become known as ’that guy’. :|
      Btw, ’guy’ meaning in the generic sense. In my world 'guy' or 'guys' is often used when referring to one another, be they male or female. Equal opportunity and all, which I feel is rather amusing at this point in history. But I digress.

    Ground breaking news and must be passed on in all languages throughout the world where this car is sold. Simply incredible detective work that should have come to the forefront years ago. The reviews for this car at the limit are terrifying and that never should have been the case. GM missed out on a opportunity to further enhance Its reputation of having the best package out there bar none for the price instead of a car that needed Randy Pobst to extract Its performance. I will never forget the Jason Cammisa commentary of pushing the limits of the car would result in death. No one bought the car as a mini van. Another good video! You are helping me make my purchase next month. I am not a Corvette person yet, so this is all new. While I want a GS, I have realized there are a lot more Z06's in the marketplace. So if I end up with a Z06 (because I got the best deal) then I want it as compliant as possible.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you! These adjustments are still very important whether you are tracking the car or not. The rear caster on the Corvette is almost dangerous the way it comes from the factory. I had mine adjusted by a dealership local to me that has a specific "CORVETTE Mechanic" and he still had no idea the rear caster was adjustable and because of that had completely missed the rear caster numbers. My car was very shaky over bumps especially in the rear end. After this alignment it was night and day and then the DSC controller on top of it smoothed it out even more.
      The best way to find a place that can do an alignment correctly is, unfortunately, calling around to different shops and specifically asking "Can you adjust the rear caster on a Corvette?" I did it multiple times trying to stay local and NO ONE knew how to do it. I had already heard of DSC via the Corvette forums so I knew that was my last hope. I couldn't find anything closer that was as reliable as their reputation suggested they were so I just made an appointment and I'm glad I did!

Would there be tunes/programs that would help bridge the gap for the DSC controller ? My guess would be 20-30% stiffer would really help bridge the gap.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  5 лет назад +3

      Yes, that's the ONE thing about this controller that puts it above the GM stuff. It's FULLY user adjustable. If you want it stiffer you can do that, if you want it softer, you can also do that. It's all adjustable with a computer.

    • @backnu
      @backnu 5 лет назад +1

      @@HorsePowerObsessed thank you ! Some of us prefer a ride that communicates the surface we are on. The road surface to me is like steering feel. I don't mind feeling what the road is doing. Some people think that every car has to ride like a Toyota Camry; fact is...it doesn't. Especially in a sports car. It's simple engineering. The shocks can help a lot but the fundamentals of gravity is still there. You still need a fairly stiff setup to corner for any real competition. A soft spring/shock = more sway depending on the amount of force you put on it. If most of these guys have ever been in a true track car, they would really know what stiff is like. Give me that ride all day! #savemefromcamrys

    • @HorsePowerObsessed

      Absolutely agree. I'd rather have a stiffer feeling suspension even for everyday driving but now, with this controller, I can have EITHER one at the press of a button. • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  5 лет назад +1

      The creator of the DSC controller definitely didn't make it to have the car ride more like a Camry. He is a HUGE track nut himself and produced it with TRACK USE in mind. Giving us adjustability while also having the options to change between soft and stiff for their specific uses is really what this thing was designed for.

      qr qr You want to have your Rear Caster aligned when you install the DSC Controller. There is another You Tube Video just before this one that explains the Rear Caster alignment. Be sure and check it out.

    Hello Justin, Back on the road overseas, however, enjoyed every day @ home driving my ZO6. That said, very informative video and have a few questions. First of all, should I assume you took your car to GM to align the front and rear end ie. toe in / out & caster? The fact GM did not know what they were doing, you in fact took it to Mike to correct the issue? Secondly, while you were there, decided on changing out the original GM controller for the DSC controller? Look forward to hearing back from you. Blue skies buddy, Jg

      That's right, John. GM really did a number on my alignment due to not knowing the rear caster was adjustable. The guys at DSC fixed it up and then replaced that controller which really helped with keeping the car more planted and allowing more control over ride comfort.

    Pros connect with the car. Develop proper communication with in driver and car. The car will tell you want it wants. Suspension geometry is very important.

    mike say's his settings are no big secret but dosent show how to adjust the rear castor the most important thing in getting your c7 tuned to the road. i watched your other video with the castor setting it was edited lots of information left ou,t no suspention place or delearship in the U. S. DOSNT know how to adjust the rear castor .why not make a video on that?WTF

      What information is left out? They publicly display their camber, toe, and caster settings. He uses a digital angle gauge to adjust the rear caster and the normal alignment machine for the rest. I showed everything and Mike is 100% transparent with all their recommended settings. Not sure what was left out...

    tire pressure, tire size and tire wear all plays a part of the Equation. that item is not needed just saying! plus suspension...there is alot more involved than installing a box! lol plus no need for street driving.jusy drive your car and enjoy it. !!!

    Use a darn personal mic next time . All I hear is a air gun and thumping in the background.

    Pretty much all I can hear is a air ratchet blasting away and cars and trucks passing by.. would love to know what your saying , cause my c7 jumps also. When I first bought the car new I kept it in track mode all the time 3 rims cracked so I bought aftermarket rims and keep it out of track mode..

      I can hear it fine... I'll put in some closed captions later I guess. This is the problem with a shop doing work all day.

      Not a problem for the shop doing work all day. The problem is doing a recording in the open bay outside. Next time take it indoors away from the shop. Good info for those new folks with vettes but nothing new here for those with the DSV. If there is a recommendation for a ride height setting other than stock, post on the DSC web page. If there is a ratio to maintain when lowering that needs to be stated also. My only take away was that it was ok to lower but the front should be higher than the back but no other info? Can you see how this can be problematic?

      It's totally audible on my end but like I said at a shop that does work these kind of things happen. I wouldn't have bothered putting it up if it wasn't audible, everything he said was totally understandable so we'll just have to look past the audio issue on this one.
