Definitely needs more stuff like a decoy fountain pen (probably multiples), decoy case so they don’t steal the real ones, a liter of distilled water for cleaning on the go and a liter of pen flush. Great vid! I needed that, it made my day
No sarcasm of course. I love the idea of spraying SBREBrown ink on ballpoint users. What do you mean, not serious. That is close to what I pack. 4 fountain pens in my pocket. When I traveled, I did bring bottles of ink. And absolutely brought paper and clipboard.
Classic SBRE Brown! Fantastic video...i think you forgot the pen flush for "that one person" and it also can "be like holy water. Or even better... Just bring a bottle of Dawn and make your own! Thank you... In these difficult times we need these light yet totally serious and helpful videos!
@@Symphing12 You might have a valid point but I had a rethink when he packed his case of back up pens. There must be at least a litre of capacity in that case alone!!
At last! Someone who understands the bare necessities. And we already knew we needed a towel from _Hitchhiker’s Guide_. Thank you. This was brilliant. (We definitely need the laugh.)
Thanks you Stephen! I felt silly carrying three pens. Now I know I was wildy underestimating my pen needs when I leave my house. Never again! I'm off to buy a 100 liter backpack. I wonder how many loose pens that will hold? Maybe 120 then.
Hugely practical and funny, thank you! I see a notebook giveaway in the future, after all you've got dozens, and you'd have more room for the greatest ink in the universe.
mmm: my fp everyday carry - definitely my lovely Belomo loupe, some brass shims, blotting paper, my Midori passport sized traveller’s notebook w tomoe river refill, my lovely Pilot 78g+ EF w Iroshizuku shin-kai ink and a Woowa leather pen case plus a wee bottle of pen flush, a squeeze bulb syringe and a spring syringe; would have backup ink Montblanc Ultramarine too!:)
When traveling I pick a pen which takes cartridges in the $200 range. The pen goes into very nice leather two pen case. I also pack a nice roller ball. After flying in I plug the ink in and I’m ready to go. After the end of the trip I pull the cartridge out and throw it away. No leakage in the plane. I also bring a reasonable amount of good paper.
Don't forget some bulb syringes, a collapsible water basin, and a gallon of distilled water. You never know when you'll have to clean a pen on the go! =P And I agree, SBREBrown ink is the bees knees...best brown ever!
Thank you! You're ready for the desert island. If it has a lot of food and water. Easily accessible. You do seem to presume shelter from rain or snow or hail when you write.... ;)
Stephen I flat out love you. This is fantastic....Wait.. not just one bottle of SBRE Brown... two.. no wait THREE! LOL I'm dying of laughter at this. You ROCK!!! Also, plus 10 for the Fortnum & Mason tea :) You know how I love my fortnums!
I shall shop for a larger backpack immediately. Quick question, though - are you sure you are prepared? Completely prepared? I didn't see a wax seal, sealing wax, a candle to melt the wax, or flint and steel to light the candle. Or at least flint. I suppose you might have had a lesser pen with a steel nib in there, somewhere. Your videos are a delight. Academic, focused, and funny, all at the same time.
Thankfully, you were having a "giraffe" with us. Although, I pity the mugger who tries to steal your heavily laden rucksack; probably do their back in. You should see my rucksack [I seriously shouldn't be commenting really]. You made me chuckle [& that's been increasingly hard to do recently].
I've got everything but the books. I NEED the BOOKS. Where can I get the books. I would be complete if I had the books. Oh I need some of the Sbrebrown ink too. Thank you and good show. Avery much needed laugh.
You forgot the bulge syringe for flushing the fountain pens... shame, shame.... Damn, volume is really low on this video. What happened? Barely hear your voice... but all the bangs and dings as loud AF... LOL.
Great Humorous Video, I especially like the excessive pens you EDC, my wife gets annoyed at me carrying my safari and a bullet journal as an EDC. On the Serious side, if using bottles ink , recommend getting a box of medical rubber gloves (Available at most places, thanks to COVID)and taking two gloves per week to save yourself from rainbow hands.
Your last RUclips channel items are made in a very low volume that succumbs to the usual background noise. Please speak up! It is easy to lower volume yet impossible to increase it beyond the low limit you supply lately
Absolutely amazing vid, and it's so very disheartening to say that I can no longer enjoy your soothing overethusiastic voice. You see, there's been an accident when, you know, I was listening to this vid, and then it ended, and then RUclips suggested one of your pen reviews from 2 years ago, and now I'm deaf.
The problem is this is a serious video. I carry all of this and more to work. I even have a swiss army stapler and a Opinel mushroom knife. Please help me😱
So there IS a way to ward off those pesky ballpoint pen users! I already feel safer and more confident to go outside - you wouldn't believe how many of them I come across just going to the supermarket.
I cannot believe Stephen left out a whole bunch of essentials. SMH. THE PORTABLE WRITING DESK!!!! HELLO?! A stool. Yeah, forgot that. Where's a spare pair of glasses in case your eyesight suddenly diminishes (or improves). Where's the ruddy pen-flush? The syringes? Micro-mesh? Silicone grease? Brass shimmy thingy thing thing thing? Huh? The phials? One empty bottle is not ok in this day & age. In pre-historic times, sure, but today, heck no. What about a bib to protect your white business shirt/blouse? Gloves to protect your fingers? Water to wash your hands? A kitchen sink with a filtration device to fill up a water bottle, cup, rinse your pen? All this stuff needs to go everywhere. Going 'lite' has it's drawbacks & I think newbies will suffer. As soon as the video starts there's a worrisome glean in Mr Brown's eyes which he is stoically trying to suppress. At 1:27 all that goes down the toilet
I've greatly enjoyed your videos in the past, and I thank you for bringing so much info about the hobby to all of us, the consuming public. However, I find many of the recent videos difficult to watch simply due to the very low audio levels. I don't know if anyone has commented about this in the past, but I have to turn up the volume immediately after the intro graphic or I can't hear anything. Then, I forget to lower it again only to be deafened by the following video I happen to watch. I know it's being extremely picky, but it may be something easily fixed that may make watching your videos more enjoyable again.
Yes, it has been pointed out before and I am sorry. This should not affect the reviews, where the recording has not been changed in any way, but it does affect the Consult the dr./Stoicism videos and videos like this one that were recorded on a device, not a camera. This is fixed now, but there may be a few previously shot videos that still have the lower volume.
I just hope that you can tweak the audio for all the videos so they have a consistent audio level. It makes watching so much more pleasant when i can hear what you are saying.
I agree, Laura. His volume has been getting lower and lower and lower for some time on this series. I can't even hear it now on my PC with it's volume and YT's both maxed out. Not even whisper quiet. Well, the opening chant is LOUD at my settings, but not the rest. Stephen, I love ya' and I've followed your pen reviews for years, but I cannot hear anything you say in this video.
Definitely needs more stuff like a decoy fountain pen (probably multiples), decoy case so they don’t steal the real ones, a liter of distilled water for cleaning on the go and a liter of pen flush.

Cynthia that's what all the Jinhao's are for ;)
@@lunsj yes!! Jinhao sand preppys!

And blotting paper. Lots of it, because who knows, you may make a mess of things.

I am no expert but I do not think he had enough ink.
@@konradyearwood5845 I got that feeling too, but if you have S.B.R.E. Brown ink, do you really need anything else?

iPad or laptop for buying more pens on the go? Polishing kit?

This is the greatest fountain pen video of all time!!! I needed this today in a way you cant possibly imagine. Thank you so much.
Dear Dr. Stephen, this is the most informative, most useful video you have made yet. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Thanks for the uplifting humor! This was a welcome treat!
Thanks for the practical advice for when travelling light.

Completely ridiculous and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you so much Dr.. Brown
Ohh that looks perfect! I think you are missing a bit more SB brown ink for spraying ball point users!!! There is just not enough ink you put there!

Blotting paper? Writing box? Pen flush and Binder's repair manuals? I am appalled at the unprofessional omissions!
Now that's an everyday carry!👍🏻😉
A hoopy frood always knows where his towel is.
My real list would be a loupe..about 3 pens in a case..extra ink cartridges..brass sheets..a blunt syringe..and a couple small notebooks.
Thank you so much for this video. It made my heart lighter.
LOL. I went to sea with the US Navy with a smaller duffel bag. (Seabag) All good conservative options.
Do you no longer use your Visconti Travelling Inkwell? 😂

It's also advisable to invest in a good robot exoskeleton or gamma ray-based gene mutation.
