MYM’s expressions will have been pulled from an expression pose library made by a senior animator, the real test of good animation is in the bespoke acting that the animator would have had to bring to the shot themselves. MYM often has knee popping, poor arcs etc. indicative of cheap TV animation
That and the last 2 seasons of g4. It's actually kinda insulting that G5 wanted to be a continuation but nuked Equestria's social progress back to 'other kinds of ponies bad.'
I understand that they didn’t just solve racism and it has a possibility of reviving itself after g4 (history repeats itself after-all). It’s just that, this is a fictional story, in this case it’s a plot, not a real-real problem. And they’ve used the earth pony vs pegasus vs unicorn racism plot point before. This isn’t new. There was literally an entire episode in FiM using this plot to talk about equestria’s beginning. It really makes it seem like they genuinely couldn’t come up with anything else. Very solid video! Very well summarized, and full of fair critiques as well. I was asked to work on this game very early on in its development. Some of the leadership internally found my work with 3D Ponies and thought I was a good fit. I was pretty happy with where I was at the time and I normally would have declined/ignored offers like this, but this was something I thought about and decided it'd be worth trying. I got hired via contract, and got to work. And this was around March/April 2021, so nearly half a year before the G5 Movie was even out. It didn't even have a trailer out yet. (I know you mentioned that Hasbro might have commissioned this game in response to the Movie's success, but in truth, the game was being planned WAY ahead of the Movie being released.) But when I was hired and signed NDA's and such, I got to see a pretty large portion of the G5 Movie early. Not all of it was finished at the time, so lots of parts were omitted/skipped, and some was just viewport playblasts, but a lot of what was there was fully rendered. But I got super hype when I saw it. This movie was GOOD. And having to keep that to myself for half a year was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. But seeing that got me motivated to do this movie justice, and do my best work, especially early on in the project. Now when development truly got going, it was very clear basically from the start that this game was destined to be... frustratingly simple. There were a lot of more interesting game design and level design ideas in the works early on (none of which I was super directly involved in, I was hired as a 3D Rigger and Animator), but higher ups always kept pushing for the game to appeal to basically the lowest common denominator, being like, 4-year-old toddlers. If those kinds of players couldn't figure out their way through a level in playtesting, it had to be simplified. And you can see where that led us. The other frustrating thing was deadlines. The core of the game was "completed" in 11 months. From start to finish. The time after 11 months was dedicated to porting, bug fixing, validation, etc, which I wasn't involved in. And on average we had less than a dozen people working on the entire game throughout most of its development cycle Programmers, 3D Artists, Game Design, Story Writing, Animation, anything that was part of the core development, was all distributed across less than a dozen people. It's not a lot to work with to make something truly good. But despite the obvious sign from the beginning, I still wanted to give it my all. That's just how my brain works. If I am given a task, and I don't feel or don't expect to feel fulfilled in doing that task, I can't do it. My brain won't let me. And I still had that burst of motivation from the beginning when I saw that G5 movie. While I didn't make the 3D Pony models as you said in the video, I did rig them. And I rigged them using techniques that basically inherited a lot of how the G5 Movie Maya rigs worked, but simplified, especially for facial stuff, which yielded the results you see in the game, where they look remarkably alike to how the appear in the Movie, even in motion and in expression. That was my first biggest contribution to this game was figuring that out. I feel like most industry people they could've hired would have instead found simpler less accurate ways to do this. But I was the one doing it, I was somehow in this position, and I wanted to do it right, and I did. The next biggest thing I worked on, and this is something I worked on for most of my time on this project, was gameplay animation related stuff. All of the player animation you see when you move around and stuff, and the idle animations, and the animation systems that drive it all together, was nearly all done by me. How the character leans into turns, how the head tracks where your desired movement direction is, how all of the running and turning animations blend together, even rotating in place. Jumping, additive landing animations, and idle animations that can still play and persist if you walk slowly. And how in Roller Blades, the blade strokes are determined by acceleration, and terrain height, so faster strokes while accelerating, and more relaxed strokes while at speed, and no strokes while decelerating (such as during a wide turn), or rolling down a hill where strokes wouldn't be needed. And there's smaller stuff like the dancing animations in that dancing minigame. Those were really fun to animate. Just sucks that it's paired alongside very bland gameplay... But yeah. Things like that. You mentioned in the video how Roller Blades were underutilized, and you're frickin' right they were. I was sad to see how late in the game they were set to be unlocked. And even the late unlock aside, there weren't a lot of levels in the first place in the game as a whole to really use the blades in. With that said, the gameplay animation in this game is the epitome of my animation style, and animation system design style. All of what you see defines my biggest strengths as a gameplay animator. Though the system is still symptomatic of the type of game it is, a shovelware game with not a lot of time to make the game, I'm still super proud of the work I did for gameplay locomotion animation, it still holds some of my best animation work for gameplay. Now after a majority of the gameplay animation stuff was taken care of, I slowly transitioned into constructing a lot of the cinematic cutscenes. And this is where things got the most frustrating for me. For starters, there were hiccups that got in the way that prevented me from animating most of the cutscenes needed, which wasted like a month and a half, which is a massive amount of time for a game like this. That already forced some planned cutscenes to get cut. Wonder why some of the dialogue sequences looked so off? Especially with the dialogue sequences for the billboard vandilization? All of them were planned cinematics. Some of them were even fully blocked out and ready to make full. But it had to be skipped. It left like only 2.5 months to really get all of the cinematics made. We had brought on another Junior Animator at this point, but they were mostly focused on Misc. animations for background characters and dialogue system stuff, most of the cinematics I was in charge of doing. They did hop on to help finish some of the cinematics at the very end, they helped animate Pipp and Izzy on the final cutscene, and did the cinematics that pop up during the last minigame. BUT yeah. Sort of rambling here, but my main point here is that, this was a stressful time. I did my best with what I had though. I'm happy with how some of the cutscenes turned out, the best one probably being the one right after the flight minigame, but there were unfortunately ones I had to rush a bit, and am not so happy with how they turned out, or at least partially not happy with. That summarizes the stuff I was directly involved in, BUT I do want to bring up another thing, and this was one you were focused on a lot in the video, and for good reason. The game's story. Uuuuugh. So, the story was being planned out early on. Maybe a couple months in, all the story pieces were being put all together. But when I read through all of the outlines and scripts, I wasn't super impressed. I understood that the story wasn't going to be anything special, though. But I REALLY took issue with on thing in particular. The stupid rehashing of the pony racism plotline. The movie already did this, and did this better (not perfectly either, but better), and the way it was written felt very... artificial. And with weird messaging. It made no sense as to how the entire population of maretime bay would turn again so easily for bigotry. If we were going to do that, the only way to make that work is to TRULY put a lot of time and effort to constructing a narrative to actually justify this, but we had nothing. Instead, the entire pony population is made to look like idiots. And it isn't helped that their minds are instantly changed once again when Sunny gave a very short speech to a small crowd of protesters. I hated this plotline a lot, and I made sure to let it be known to the person who was writing this. And, while this was still pretty early on in development, I think I understand why it ultimately didn't really change. And again, it's just due to the nature of the type of game this is, a shovelware game. A story HAD to be locked in, and fast. There just wasn't time to dilly-dally and experiment with different kinds of plotlines. Instead, a plotline that fit the mold of the game had to be picked, and then just roll with it. That's the only way the game would be able to get done on time. I don't blame the person who wrote the story necessarily. It's just... a frustrating situation. I do wish there would've been a way to resolve this plotline in particular due to how bad the messaging is, for a kids game especially. But it is what it is. Anywho, rant over. Oops. That went on for a bit LOL Thanks again for the video, seeing this game pop up in YT recommended every once in a while always has its ways of bringing back through memory lane with the experiences I had contributing to this game's development, the good and the bad.
I haven't touched this game yet. Mostly because I am used to games like Red Dead Redemption 2. But despite this, I did find a nice fan-made pony game and their community is wholesome ^^ The game's name is Legends of Equestria.

But depite the gloomy news, Amareicas will go strong because the game's volunteer developers are still working on the game. Ponies are few there but friendly therefore the community feels like a real and living community.
It never did make sense to me that hasbro never capitalized on the game market while mlp was at its peak. You just know bronies would have seen a good mlp game and given it record breaking sales numbers.
I am making a mod for this game... And now I am... worried... I know that this game lacks things in many ways... But I got motivated to keep making mod once I learned they are releasing a new one... I even made a moddb page yesterday... I first implemented custom localizations shortly after release, and in the summer of 2022, I implemented Kinect motion controls... This year, I planned to do a lot more, 1. multiplayer module that turns this game into a 3d pony town... 2. custom assets and models... 3. add VR support... For the past month, I rewrote the previous codebase and casually added some bug fixes for the base game... It went so successfully that, even the new features I planned seem completely possible compared to before, seems that it will only be a matter of time before I finish all these... but... *sigh* I am worried that people won't be interested in my mod ONLY because they aren't interested in the game itself any more, even for those who have played it and enjoyed it...

Could you Imagine if My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic was a Mid-90s cartoon and there were High Quality Action-Platformer Games made by talented studio to Rival Mario, Banjo Kazooie, and Kirby For the PS1/N64 Era and then in the future there would be other Games and Cartoons that would Rival MLP's success in the PS2 Era onwards and they would have made very successful franchises.
The whole trading thing reminded me of that one g4 ep where fluttershy and rainbow dash have to run around to find items the vendors want to get the rare daring doo book
I think you did a phenomenal job on this, the presentation, the voice over and the breakdown of the games barmy plot. I played it on switch, and finished it in less than a few hours. It was enjoyable enough, but too short and occasionally frustrating. Here’s hoping the next one will expand on the lore. Looking forward to seeing your next project!
that part you said about letting the obstacles hit you and you still winning reminds me of a disney game i played last year on the xbox pc game pass that was... bad lol. i wouldnt even be surprised if they were made by the same company somehow. the one i played was very clearly aimed for _very_ little kids, very simple dialogue and stories, if there were any puzzles they were extremely simple, but most of it was similar to that hot air balloon one where youre just going on a 3 prong track and avoiding the obstacles... and if you fail you dont even have to restart, you just keep going. you can really tell when companies think little kids are fragile or stupid i think

It all just felt like busy work. There was no big scenes, no story progression in terms of character development or anything... its all just mini games for brainrott toddlers. Edit: people are missing the point that kids games can still be good games/have heart. In one of my comments I used Spyro and legend of zelda for example. The older games still had great lore and fun gimmicks/mini games. The characters actually had personality! The newer generation of kids (especially little girls) need fun games too, not just "ooo pretty horse and butterflies." That's all I see when it comes to little girl marketed games these days :( as a kid I hated games like this. Mlp g5 just has no soul imo.
While the critiques are generally correct here. It wasn’t really crated with quality in mind. Playing it, it feels like one of those mindless little girl’s games you find in the 2000s. And that’s fine honestly, it is their key audience and who it’s being made for. Yeah they should be an MLP game that’s geared towards all audiences but I don’t think it’s a fault of the game itself. I was actually shocked when the game ended. I didn't think it was brainrot or anything, just very easy, but that's to be expected. It should not have such a short runtime for that price though. It's such a tiny experience for such a large sum of money. I was fully convinced the credits were some kind of intro (Pokepark 2 had them halfway through!) not the ending.

Also, I won a copy of the game from a raffle in a stream, which was great, cause even for the meme, it's not worth it's pricetag. I thought it was a lot of fun, the controls were great and smooth, the bunny games was a lot of fun, but it way too short and should have been at least five times longer and should have visited more locations like Zephyr heights, Bridlewood, but also Canterlogic or the train/airship stations locations. I suspect it was originally supposed to have DLC's for each new entries in the Netflix series but was dropped. I hope the next game will be more interesting and especially longer.
I went into this game with relatively low expectations. And sure enough, being an adult jumping into a game made for kids, I wasn't preparing myself for anything groundbreaking. Maybe that's why I had a good enough time with it, I just wanted to play a harmless pony game about characters I already have come to know. And yeah, I also got my hands on the sequel although I haven't played it just yet. Whenever I do, I'm going to do it the same way I did with the first one. I gotta be honest, the dancing mini game was lowkey kind of fire, the song especially.
Oh heck yeah about the dancing minigame, after I beat the game I played it again a whole lot just for the dancing. And that's a good story, you can get yourself into the right mindsets to be able to enjoy anything really.
You know what would be a good genre for a MLP game? A 3D platformer/collectathon like Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom. You could play around with a playable cast of three characters: one Earth, unicorn, and pegasus. Would be fun.
Bought this game day one. It took me just over the 2 hour refund window on steam to completely 100% everything and that had me a bit peeved. The best part about it though was it got me to go see if bronies have made better games than this and I found out about Pony Town.
Well you're a breath of fresh air! It feels like almost everyone who talks about g5 is super on one side or the other about it, resulting in a lot of divide in the fandom. I think g5 (as a whole, games movie and shows included) had amazing potential but, it just doesn't feel like it was/is being given what it needs to fulfill that potential. The movie imo was a good start, then the rest just felt like hasbro giving us the bottom of the barrel. With no money or time being put towards it to make it into something that could have been great even if different from g4.
As a G5 fan I have opinions of the game. The animation in Make Your Mark is better in my opinion. The story is good but animation looks weird. Also I noticed all the of the characters are voiced by the same original voice actors from the show except for Zipp she is voiced by some new voice actor not Matrisk for some strange reason. You can also only play as Sunny hopefully the second game will be better I heard you will be able to play as the other characters!
After Activision bowed with that terrible Ghostbusters 2016 game that was so bad it caused its dev to file for bankruptcy, GameMill and Outright Games arrived and made these licensed games a trend again, and they are still hit or miss especially with Fast & Furious Crossroads and Skull Island: Rise of Kong. Because AAA devs don't want kids' cartoons shoved down their throat. Licensed games were slowing down in the 2010s especially after THQ went bankrupt, and it wasn't until around 2016 when GameMill/Outright arrived and made licensed games based on kids' cartoons relevant again. Personally I'm glad we never got a G4 MLP gacha game (Epic Seven, Blue Archive, etc) as it'll just crash and burn in less than a year like the other attempts to give Western franchises gacha games turned out.
Noticed alot of new mlp channels that have like much higher quality than alot og channels during the 2012 of the fandom. Like there were alot fo creators but not all were great but the recent burst of mlp has a lot have great new content creaters

IF you want a fast easy plat trophy then this game is perfect for you! you can beat this game 100% in under 2hour 30minutes! thats how long a normal playthrough takes if you take your time with everything and yes cutscenes included!

As someone who gave this game a full hour of my time, this is hands down THE WORST GAME, I have EVER played... and as someone who has a full bookshelf full of 11 different consoles worth of games, which includes a lot of shovel-ware, I personally believe that says a lot. The game is insulting to your intelligence, mechanically feels terrible to play, and is nothing but fetch quest after fetch quest. I originally thought this game was going to be something like banjo-kazooie with a collectathon gameplay approach, but no. The collectable stars are just littered everywhere to get you to waste your time *even more* then you already are just playing normally. The only thing that I discovered was actually kind of fun was the dancing mini-game, but even then a mini-game shouldn't be more enjoyable than the actual game. And besides, a random rythem game really doesn't add much anyway. Please, if this video didn't convince you, don't spend any of your time on this, and for the love of god don't give this to your children to play either. They deserve to enjoy something more engaging than this garbage.

I find the character models very saturated compared to Make Your Mark. Every other graphic has better textures and colour. It's a shame the other members of the Mane Five are not playable characters. It would have been awesome to play the game five different times each from a different character's perspective. Sequel looks pretty sad. Can they not get inspiration from mini-games that delve into the core mechanics of events and activities like Epyx's California Games? I think a video game based on Blockywockys would be so much better.
As someone who was a brony since season 1 G4 MLP it's kind of crazy to see bronies are still around. I can't say that I'm still a brony since the brony fandom has change drastically over the time, particularly because the bronies I knew kept bringing up political or cultural issues that had nothing to do with MLP any more and cause more of a divide than conversation. Seeing content about bronies and MLP still interests me but I don't think I'll go back to going to brony conventions or groups.

And how in Roller Blades, the blade strokes are determined by acceleration, and terrain height, so faster strokes while accelerating, and more relaxed strokes while at speed, and no strokes while decelerating (such as during a wide turn), or rolling down a hill where strokes wouldn't be needed. And there's smaller stuff like the dancing animations in that dancing minigame. Those were really fun to animate. Just sucks that it's paired alongside very bland gameplay... But yeah. Things like that.
You mentioned in the video how Roller Blades were underutilized, and you're frickin' right they were. I was sad to see how late in the game they were set to be unlocked. And even the late unlock aside, there weren't a lot of levels in the first place in the game as a whole to really use the blades in. With that said, the gameplay animation in this game is the epitome of my animation style, and animation system design style. All of what you see defines my biggest strengths as a gameplay animator. Though the system is still symptomatic of the type of game it is, a shovelware game with not a lot of time to make the game, I'm still super proud of the work I did for gameplay locomotion animation, it still holds some of my best animation work for gameplay.
Now after a majority of the gameplay animation stuff was taken care of, I slowly transitioned into constructing a lot of the cinematic cutscenes. And this is where things got the most frustrating for me. For starters, there were hiccups that got in the way that prevented me from animating most of the cutscenes needed, which wasted like a month and a half, which is a massive amount of time for a game like this. That already forced some planned cutscenes to get cut. Wonder why some of the dialogue sequences looked so off? Especially with the dialogue sequences for the billboard vandilization? All of them were planned cinematics. Some of them were even fully blocked out and ready to make full. But it had to be skipped. It left like only 2.5 months to really get all of the cinematics made. We had brought on another Junior Animator at this point, but they were mostly focused on Misc. animations for background characters and dialogue system stuff, most of the cinematics I was in charge of doing. They did hop on to help finish some of the cinematics at the very end, they helped animate Pipp and Izzy on the final cutscene, and did the cinematics that pop up during the last minigame. BUT yeah. Sort of rambling here, but my main point here is that, this was a stressful time. I did my best with what I had though. I'm happy with how some of the cutscenes turned out, the best one probably being the one right after the flight minigame, but there were unfortunately ones I had to rush a bit, and am not so happy with how they turned out, or at least partially not happy with.
That summarizes the stuff I was directly involved in, BUT I do want to bring up another thing, and this was one you were focused on a lot in the video, and for good reason. The game's story. Uuuuugh. So, the story was being planned out early on. Maybe a couple months in, all the story pieces were being put all together. But when I read through all of the outlines and scripts, I wasn't super impressed. I understood that the story wasn't going to be anything special, though. But I REALLY took issue with on thing in particular. The stupid rehashing of the pony racism plotline. The movie already did this, and did this better (not perfectly either, but better), and the way it was written felt very... artificial. And with weird messaging. It made no sense as to how the entire population of maretime bay would turn again so easily for bigotry. If we were going to do that, the only way to make that work is to TRULY put a lot of time and effort to constructing a narrative to actually justify this, but we had nothing. Instead, the entire pony population is made to look like idiots. And it isn't helped that their minds are instantly changed once again when Sunny gave a very short speech to a small crowd of protesters. I hated this plotline a lot, and I made sure to let it be known to the person who was writing this. And, while this was still pretty early on in development, I think I understand why it ultimately didn't really change. And again, it's just due to the nature of the type of game this is, a shovelware game. A story HAD to be locked in, and fast. There just wasn't time to dilly-dally and experiment with different kinds of plotlines. Instead, a plotline that fit the mold of the game had to be picked, and then just roll with it. That's the only way the game would be able to get done on time. I don't blame the person who wrote the story necessarily. It's just... a frustrating situation. I do wish there would've been a way to resolve this plotline in particular due to how bad the messaging is, for a kids game especially. But it is what it is.

I know that this game lacks things in many ways... But I got motivated to keep making mod once I learned they are releasing a new one... I even made a moddb page yesterday...
I first implemented custom localizations shortly after release, and in the summer of 2022, I implemented Kinect motion controls...
This year, I planned to do a lot more, 1. multiplayer module that turns this game into a 3d pony town... 2. custom assets and models... 3. add VR support...
For the past month, I rewrote the previous codebase and casually added some bug fixes for the base game... It went so successfully that, even the new features I planned seem completely possible compared to before, seems that it will only be a matter of time before I finish all these... but... *sigh*
I am worried that people won't be interested in my mod ONLY because they aren't interested in the game itself any more, even for those who have played it and enjoyed it...

I played it on switch, and finished it in less than a few hours. It was enjoyable enough, but too short and occasionally frustrating.

that part you said about letting the obstacles hit you and you still winning reminds me of a disney game i played last year on the xbox pc game pass that was... bad lol. i wouldnt even be surprised if they were made by the same company somehow. the one i played was very clearly aimed for _very_ little kids, very simple dialogue and stories, if there were any puzzles they were extremely simple, but most of it was similar to that hot air balloon one where youre just going on a 3 prong track and avoiding the obstacles... and if you fail you dont even have to restart, you just keep going. you can really tell when companies think little kids are fragile or stupid i think
I personally don’t think showing racism to kids is weird. There’s kids who experience it. I think showing it with ponies and a simpler messages is easier. But I do think that making the less powerful ponies the racists was their only general bad move
It all just felt like busy work. There was no big scenes, no story progression in terms of character development or anything... its all just mini games for brainrott toddlers.
Edit: people are missing the point that kids games can still be good games/have heart. In one of my comments I used Spyro and legend of zelda for example. The older games still had great lore and fun gimmicks/mini games. The characters actually had personality! The newer generation of kids (especially little girls) need fun games too, not just "ooo pretty horse and butterflies." That's all I see when it comes to little girl marketed games these days :( as a kid I hated games like this. Mlp g5 just has no soul imo.

While the critiques are generally correct here. It wasn’t really crated with quality in mind. Playing it, it feels like one of those mindless little girl’s games you find in the 2000s. And that’s fine honestly, it is their key audience and who it’s being made for. Yeah they should be an MLP game that’s geared towards all audiences but I don’t think it’s a fault of the game itself. Plus it doesn’t help that G5 is geared way more towards kids than even G4 was

I was actually shocked when the game ended. I didn't think it was brainrot or anything, just very easy, but that's to be expected. It should not have such a short runtime for that price though. It's such a tiny experience for such a large sum of money. I was fully convinced the credits were some kind of intro (Pokepark 2 had them halfway through!) not the ending.

Also, I won a copy of the game from a raffle in a stream, which was great, cause even for the meme, it's not worth it's pricetag.

I remember getting this game when it came out because I thought it looked cute. When I beat the game, I thought I had just gotten past the tutorial level 💀
I thought it was a lot of fun, the controls were great and smooth, the bunny games was a lot of fun, but it way too short and should have been at least five times longer and should have visited more locations like Zephyr heights, Bridlewood, but also Canterlogic or the train/airship stations locations. I suspect it was originally supposed to have DLC's for each new entries in the Netflix series but was dropped. I hope the next game will be more interesting and especially longer.

G4 will always be the best gen, ofc. Still, the point of G5 is never to be better - it's just to be good after a crazy awesome series.
I went into this game with relatively low expectations. And sure enough, being an adult jumping into a game made for kids, I wasn't preparing myself for anything groundbreaking. Maybe that's why I had a good enough time with it, I just wanted to play a harmless pony game about characters I already have come to know. And yeah, I also got my hands on the sequel although I haven't played it just yet. Whenever I do, I'm going to do it the same way I did with the first one. I gotta be honest, the dancing mini game was lowkey kind of fire, the song especially.
Oh heck yeah about the dancing minigame, after I beat the game I played it again a whole lot just for the dancing.
And that's a good story, you can get yourself into the right mindsets to be able to enjoy anything really.

It feels like almost everyone who talks about g5 is super on one side or the other about it, resulting in a lot of divide in the fandom.
I think g5 (as a whole, games movie and shows included) had amazing potential but, it just doesn't feel like it was/is being given what it needs to fulfill that potential. The movie imo was a good start, then the rest just felt like hasbro giving us the bottom of the barrel. With no money or time being put towards it to make it into something that could have been great even if different from g4.

As a G5 fan I have opinions of the game. The animation in Make Your Mark is better in my opinion. The story is good but animation looks weird. Also I noticed all the of the characters are voiced by the same original voice actors from the show except for Zipp she is voiced by some new voice actor not Matrisk for some strange reason. You can also only play as Sunny hopefully the second game will be better I heard you will be able to play as the other characters!
The expressions in the cutscenes remind me of those old Telltale games
After Activision bowed with that terrible Ghostbusters 2016 game that was so bad it caused its dev to file for bankruptcy, GameMill and Outright Games arrived and made these licensed games a trend again, and they are still hit or miss especially with Fast & Furious Crossroads and Skull Island: Rise of Kong. Because AAA devs don't want kids' cartoons shoved down their throat. Licensed games were slowing down in the 2010s especially after THQ went bankrupt, and it wasn't until around 2016 when GameMill/Outright arrived and made licensed games based on kids' cartoons relevant again.
Personally I'm glad we never got a G4 MLP gacha game (Epic Seven, Blue Archive, etc) as it'll just crash and burn in less than a year like the other attempts to give Western franchises gacha games turned out.

i actually played this game, and forgot to refund it. so now it's just sitting in my steam library :,) I've had it for too long for steam to want to be comfortable refunding it.
As someone who gave this game a full hour of my time, this is hands down THE WORST GAME, I have EVER played... and as someone who has a full bookshelf full of 11 different consoles worth of games, which includes a lot of shovel-ware, I personally believe that says a lot.
The game is insulting to your intelligence, mechanically feels terrible to play, and is nothing but fetch quest after fetch quest. I originally thought this game was going to be something like banjo-kazooie with a collectathon gameplay approach, but no. The collectable stars are just littered everywhere to get you to waste your time *even more* then you already are just playing normally. The only thing that I discovered was actually kind of fun was the dancing mini-game, but even then a mini-game shouldn't be more enjoyable than the actual game. And besides, a random rythem game really doesn't add much anyway.
Please, if this video didn't convince you, don't spend any of your time on this, and for the love of god don't give this to your children to play either. They deserve to enjoy something more engaging than this garbage.

I find the character models very saturated compared to Make Your Mark. Every other graphic has better textures and colour. It's a shame the other members of the Mane Five are not playable characters. It would have been awesome to play the game five different times each from a different character's perspective. Sequel looks pretty sad. Can they not get inspiration from mini-games that delve into the core mechanics of events and activities like Epyx's California Games? I think a video game based on Blockywockys would be so much better.

As someone who was a brony since season 1 G4 MLP it's kind of crazy to see bronies are still around. I can't say that I'm still a brony since the brony fandom has change drastically over the time, particularly because the bronies I knew kept bringing up political or cultural issues that had nothing to do with MLP any more and cause more of a divide than conversation.
Seeing content about bronies and MLP still interests me but I don't think I'll go back to going to brony conventions or groups.
