    It's getting crazy in the crypto industry. Numerous crypto lending platforms are running into trouble after the Terra/Luna and 3AC collapses. Voyager stands to lose $660M from the 3AC blowup and BlockFi may have had exposure. FTX Alameda Research gave BlockFi a $250M revolving line of credit and Voyager a $500M loan. Following Celsius, many crypto lenders have halted or limited customer withdrawals.
    With such low yields to earn on top cryptocurrencies and the potential to lose 100% of your assets in the event of crypto lender bankruptcy, it's a smart move to act quickly and look into self-custody (cold storage) options like hardware wallets + multisig wallet setups.
    Self-custody transfers the responsibility from a third party to yourself, so be sure to learn about using hardware wallets so you can do so confidently. While it's convenient to hold your crypto with a third party, the only way to truly own your digital assets is to hold the keys yourself.

    In hindsight, the reward is not worth the risk, but that was also true before, and not a lot of guys made the simple point (and you don’t need to be a financial genius to understand this) that if the interest rate seemed too good to be true, it was a risky venture. Otherwise, such a vast spread over the risk-free rate didn’t add up.

    • @projectfinance
      @projectfinance  2 года назад

      A couple years ago there was a risk-free way to make 20%+ annualized returns with the bitcoin / GBTC pairs trade, but that trade is no longer available to generate returns. So the trading strategies shifted from arb to speculative.

      You're right. But by "crypto" you mean the 19,000+ altcoins that aren't bitcoin and are run by a small group of people who are loading their bags. Bitcoin is not the same.

    • @projectfinance
      @projectfinance  2 года назад

      @@ultimatums1 Yeah you'll pay a fee to the network for including your transaction in a block, but it's tiny as of now. If you are trying to actively trade your crypto then you wouldn't want to have them in cold storage. The exchange is best. But if you're trying to secure your holdings long-term and not actively trade them then cold storage is the way to go.
