It was actually due to the formula not being perfected. Stefon would be much nicer in his later appearances, especially after the transformation chamber was built.
Just my opinion...Stefan is mostly everything Steve isnt. Steve is clumsy, Stefan is smooth. Steve is annoying, Stefan is attractive. Steve is thoughtful and caring, Stefan is more arrogant and selfish. Now not 100% selfish, Stefan knows when he has messed up and taken people or granted and ultimately still does the right thing. As we see here as Stefan sacrifices himself to turn back to Steve to make Laura happy. I think because deep down, Steve, no matter who he is, Steve or Stefan, he will always care and love Laura and do anything to make her happy.
@@rogergarrison4271 Exactly. Steve's transformation into Stefan was basically an homage to the original 1960s Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis (which is itself an adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). Steve Urkel as a character, actually, owes a lot to Jerry Lewis' style of comedy, in general. Not surprisingly, Jaleel White has mentioned Jerry Lewis as one of his comedic influences before.
This is actually one of the best homages to the '60s movie, if Jaleel was a little older I think he could have played the Professor in the 1990s remake in a closer version to the original, because he really pulls off that transformation without any of the makeup that Eddie Murphy required, very much in the spirit of the Jerry Lewis version.
Jaleel White is not just Steve Urkel to me, but also the one and only Sonic the Hedgehog. His voice gave Sonic a special kind of cool to it and I can't imagine a better actor for the job. And this scene in Family Matters alone can show a ton of range in his acting.
Fun fact: Jaleel was just about to retire from being a child actor before family matters, because he didn't want to do it anymore. His agent convinced him to atleast just try out for the part. The rest is history. That's why I don't get why he is so resentful nowadays about being type casted and held back from showing what he can really do, when he was about to stop doing it anyways. Urkel made him relevant. I loved Steve urkel he was one of a kind. I Did not care much for "Stephon UrKel" he reminded too much of too many people.

It should have been my thing lol. Computer nerds make bank. I always went for the bad boy persona and they are poor af lol@@MKF30
The acting range on this man was spectacular!
Best sonic the hedgehog voice actor ever
Facts!!!
And Manic and Sonia don't forget them!!
Classic Sonic,Gentlemen.
As well as Manic and Sonia.
Theory: Steve was purposely being arrogant as Stefan so that Laura would realize she loved Steve
Or, he actually was arrogant, but when he was talking to Laura, he realized that what he had as Stefan was fake and had no friends. But, he failed to realize his real, true friend was standing next to him the entire time. Meaning Laura Winslow.
Smh damn the Internet is ridiculous
It was actually due to the formula not being perfected. Stefon would be much nicer in his later appearances, especially after the transformation chamber was built.
I think people ascribe too much intention/thought to the writing of formulaic 90's family sitcoms.
This man is a genius.
Stefan was so annoyed taking that pill 💊 but love ❤️
Nice. I used to watch this show when I came home from school back in the day. It always helped me relax after the wretchedness of middle school.
Jaleel was just a good actor it’s crazy! This scene is hilarious
Moments in tv history that'll last 4-3ver.) Thanks
Man. This brings back so many memories. I used to love watching this show.
*amazing actor*
Now I want to binge watch family matters ❤
Jaleel White is a great actor
the crazy thing about this is that this was before the Nutty Professor which is literally the same thing except Eddie Murphy was fat lol
The Nutty Professor was done before in a movie in the 60s with Jerry Lewis. Before either this or Eddie Murphys version
Don't forget dr jekyll and Mr hyde
@@rogergarrison4271 Exactly. Steve's transformation into Stefan was basically an homage to the original 1960s Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis (which is itself an adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). Steve Urkel as a character, actually, owes a lot to Jerry Lewis' style of comedy, in general. Not surprisingly, Jaleel White has mentioned Jerry Lewis as one of his comedic influences before.
The Eddie Murphy version of Nutty Professor was a remake of the Jerry Lewis version. This scene likely pays homage to the Jerry Lewis version.
What an amazing actor!!!
He deserve a star in Hollywood
Jafeel is one incredible actor his range is incredible
His Sonic voice really comes out at 0:39
Jaleel White is greatness. Super talented
The 90’s kicked ass.
I love when he does the Donald Duck splutter 🤣😹
2:18 Table for 2? Did I do that?! 😂
Those were my happiest days in my youth, I enjoyed every moment I could to watch Family Matters.❤
Stefan brought out his Sonic the Hedgehog in this episode and it was great.
Agreed! I hear it too and I LOVE it!
Jaleel White is not just Steve Urkel to me, but also the one and only Sonic the Hedgehog. His voice gave Sonic a special kind of cool to it and I can't imagine a better actor for the job. And this scene in Family Matters alone can show a ton of range in his acting.
I agree. No one can ever do Sonic like Jaleel White!
@@melissacooper8724 He's way cool. 👍💙
Agreed. Roger Craig Smith just isn't doing it for me anymore.
Miss this show 😢
Absolutely LOVED this show and ALL of the sitcoms on ABCs TGIF!!!! Being a young teen in the early 90s was amazing!!! ❤
This kid is great. I loved him back then and still now😂
Yo we need Jaleel in more stuff!!!! 2024 MORE SHOWS AND MOVIES FOR JALEEL!!!!
a genius actor ..character transformation
He went from Stephan Urquell to Steve Urkel in one swift move.
Great actor, he changed characters like snapping fingers.
One of the GREATEST television actors of ALL TIME! America ❤'s Steve Urquelle!
a relic of a bygone time that was good for me, wish i could back into time and just live this life again, so many good classic shows.
My all time favorite show, watched it everyday after school.
Fun fact:
Jaleel was just about to retire from being a child actor before family matters, because he didn't want to do it anymore.
Steve was all substance, little/no style, "Stephon" was all style, little/no substance.
Jaleel was always a great actor.
Wish sitcoms were back
That kid deserved an Emmy
With this much range in acting skill and improv I’m surprised Jaleel was never a cast member on SNL, he would have killed it lmao
Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like had Steve found a way for him to be both himself and Stefan at the same time, but as one combined person.
By that, I mean, he still intelligent, creative, inventive, and dorky like Steve, yet cool charming and suave like Stefan
that's kinda like the end of Love don't cost a thing...
@@KshonDaModern ???
@@Knightfall-Batman basically saying, you can be cool, while still being yourself at the same time
There was that season 10 that never happened
@@Knightfall-Batman Yes, this would have happened if season 10 had been greenlit by CBS. The season would have opened with the death of Stefan Urquelle. Stefan suddenly becomes ill. Steve traces it back to his cloning machine and discovers that the results aren't permanent. Stefan is with Laura and the Winslows as he fades away and his cool and suave blend back into Steve giving him a deeper voice and more mature appearance. 🤔📺📼🙏
So we can all agree that the producers decided to put Sonic’s personality in the show because Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog came out and I would be good content
Adventures was 🗑️🚮🗑️🚮. SatAM was and still is the gold standard for Sonic animation.
@@TheEmery223 yeah I can agree with you on that
FYI, Sonic Underground was announced in 1997, just as Family Matters was winding down production.
1:29 If i don't have you, I have Nothing..
This so reminded me of that Bruno Mars "Beautiful Girls" song. Also Whitney Houston RIP Queen😢
I know some of y'all are gonna ask. 😂 The song at the end of the video is called "For The Cool In You" by Baby Face.
He nailed that transformstion. He was great as a young actor. Should have been even bigger ven though urkel and Stephan are household characters
I remember when I first saw this as a kid. The acting was great.
I don't think JALEEL WHITE has EVER gotten his due for his ability, live on air to change from Steve to STEPHAN or vice versa. Dis man DID NOT need no camera tricks or NOTHING. He was just a GREAT ACTOR/MAGICIAN. This man deserves all the awads out there for dis transformation. I give him d MARK TWAIN award just for dat
1:20, you can hear the grown up version of Jaleel's 1st iteration of Steve's voice.
He needed a happy medium between Steve and Stefan.
Kinda like a Stephen, silly and charming but not douchey and self absorbed.
@@jcmee91Exactly.
He had that in the fourth season Christmas episode, when he was "Steve Winslow."
Like Nutty Professor Sherman Klumps and Buddy Love Jerry Lewis and Eddie Murphy respectively
Anyone remember that episode where he hustled those dudes on the court? Another example of showing off Jaleel White’s talents. Urkel balled out!
Sometimes you watch a show you used to watch 30+ years ago and it's amazing how well it withstands the test of time. Then there's steve urkel.
This is one of the best shows of all time
Man, what a great character. Miss me some erkel
He was like the one person on TGIF who was actually doing a demanding role lol. Studio audiences, live-ish performances, such great energy.
Sherman Klump - Buddy Love
Steve Urkel - Stefan Urquelle
Now I sound like my parents.. “they don’t make shows like this anymore”
2:10😂
Ending dancing to Babyface's Cool In You! 🤣 90's sitcom the best to re-watch in your 30's
Steve was crazy about Laura even when he was Stefan and he was attracting a whole bunch of females he still wanted Laura now that's real love right there
Steve eventually improved the formula, making Stephan more caring. There was definitely room for improvement.
and eventually made stephan permanit as well
@@banditt18 Yup.
Imma say it. Laura didn’t deserve Steve.
The original Nutty Professor
The way he eat that elixir with the look of regret had me Rollin😂
It's funny that she says Stefan cared about himself above everything and everyone else but didn't even hesitate to go back to being Steve for the same of the woman he loved
