It's sad that so many people put Jaleel into a box saying that he was one dimensional and that they only wanted to see him as Urkel and no one else when he clearly was a genius at being an actor. Being Stefan gave Jaleel a chance to show the world that Urkel was just a character and it didn't define who he really was. His acting was so amazing that by something as simple as just changing his voice, facial expressions, and posture. .how this immediately made him look like a completely different person. .with or without the glasses. Shows in the 90's just hit different.

I’ve always wonder why Jaleel didn’t get the chance at superstardom. It could only be him being typecast as the comedic nerd.
As a teen, I loved this show. As an adult now rewatching some of this stuff, I think he was a brilliant actor for his age. That was some acting chops to switch between both characters. 😅

Jaleel White is a gifted actor, don’t care what anyone says. Met Jaleel at Seattle PAX two years ago. I had a nice 40 minute chat with him, talked about Stefan and Sonic the Hedgehog, then after all that, 10 minutes before we got done chatting he immediately started talking about Steve Urkel! He said even though he hated the fact that the role ruined his acting career, he loved it because it gave the world a lovable character that people hate only cause they don’t have someone like Steve in their life, a true friend.

    • @metalspinda9594
      @metalspinda9594 11 месяцев назад

@@myrkrormr You know how Brad Duriff is WORLD famous for his EPIC SCREAMS of pain in his MOST beloved role of Charles Lee Ray in the Child's play movies and ONLY that? Ever heard of an aspiring Rapper named Exibit and how people DIDN'T care about his music once he started doing the reality show "Pimp my Ride"?
Show business and the consumers involved can be very fickle and box-oriented in it. If an actor or showman/musician achieves celebrity status due to a PARTICULAR role, it can become a double edged sword. Jonny Depp and Jim Carry were ALMOST turned into "Pretty Boy only" role people. But After Crybaby and Once Bitten respectively, Jonny Depp DEMOLISHED his pretty boy reputation with the Halloween classic, Edward Sizzorhands and Jim Carry did "Earth Girls Are Easy", which broke peoples initial takes on them by showing that they were MORE than just a "Given Role". Those two had a range. An acting range can be difficult and scary to try to prove that you have in Tinsel Town, but it DOES separate you from those who ONLY are remembered for ONE routine or role! Some people out there ACTUALLY think Jaleel White's REAL name IS "Steve Urkle"! THAT's how Mr. White "ruined" his career, by not distinguishing himself beyond Family Matters and letting a Gimmick take his career OVER!

Family Matters was always interesting in the sense it was 3 different shows.
Part 1 and season 1 was about Carl vs his mother and that show would have been canceled way sooner and was the worst of the 3.
Part 2 was the Steve Urkel show where he was the main character of the show. This was the height of the shows popularity.
Part 3 was focused more on the family with Steve still coming around and I would consider this the best personally.

She’s beautiful, but to quote Tom Hanks in You’ve Got Mail, she’s a pill. She’s superficial and only cares about herself and her social standing. @@handsomeman-pm9vy Well yes and no because even though those shows were on film they can also become old, grainy and decay overtime. Take Rescue from Gilligans Island which now looks as if it were made before the initial tv series LOL! The tv series was digitally remastered and restored and the picture and sound is fantastic. Sadly the Gilligans Island movies have not been remastered or restored hence why they look so horrible LOL! There are picture dropouts snow and specks of grainy film and even some yellowing which make it look even worse. 📺🎞🏝🤷

I would have been 8 and yo me the 60s were just my father's territory that were represented by his nostalgia for the Beatles.
This (Family Matters) for me was just daytime tv and something I watched waiting for the cartoons or Dinosaurs or The Fresh Prince before switching on the Super Nintendo.
I go in and out of being fascinated by the passage of time and yearning for the past and what a different world it was. Ideally we live making the most of every moment day by day and try to make impressionable memories that we can carry on later. Ideally.

I think of Christopher Reeve with Clark and Superman, a lot of people who think scenes like this are corny are far from it that think the same about that version of Superman due to the time period but that's actually serious talent to play a an insecure dork to someone confident, strong and such on whim.

Just my opinion...Stefan is mostly everything Steve isnt.
Steve is clumsy, Stefan is smooth.
Steve is annoying, Stefan is attractive.
Steve is thoughtful and caring, Stefan is more arrogant and selfish. Now not 100% selfish, Stefan knows when he has messed up and taken people or granted and ultimately still does the right thing. As we see here as Stefan sacrifices himself to turn back to Steve to make Laura happy.
I think because deep down, Steve, no matter who he is, Steve or Stefan, he will always care and love Laura and do anything to make her happy.

Steve's transformation into Stefan was basically an homage to the original 1960s Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis (which is itself an adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). Steve Urkel as a character, actually, owes a lot to Jerry Lewis' style of comedy, in general. Not surprisingly, Jaleel White has mentioned Jerry Lewis as one of his comedic influences before.

This is actually one of the best homages to the '60s movie, if Jaleel was a little older I think he could have played the Professor in the 1990s remake in a closer version to the original, because he really pulls off that transformation without any of the makeup that Eddie Murphy required, very much in the spirit of the Jerry Lewis version.
