I love that faustina coin. Almost representing the southern grain and Egyptian Cleopatra lighthouse to the south and the wild haired celts to the north as a contemporary Boudica. A coin satisfying the extremities of the roman empire at that time.
Depends on the coin and what metal it is to be honest mate. Silver hammered we often give a short soak in concentrated lemon juice. Or stubborn crud we use a layer of foil in a disposable metal pie case, a, layer of soda crystals, put the coin in and pour over some boiling water. It'll fizz for ages. That really lifts crud but very gently. We do that on silver roman too. It's completely different for bronze coins though. Nothing harsh to clean those, we literally use our fingertips to gently rub them, and use dried out hawthorns to pick crust off. Dried Hawthorns are great tools to pick off stubborn cruddy bits off anything tbh.
Cheers Serge - we have been having some good luck this year! After looking on Google, I can confirm I now know what a modern day gouge is and what it's used for 😎
Awesome finds. Remember years ago when you was younger you were very enthusiastic detectorist. Well there is someone on RUclips who is like you and your dad and mom. His name on RUclips is Paddy Detects and he was at Detectival a few weeks ago . So if you and your friends could subscribe to his channel it would make his day. Regards Sooty & Naughty Sweep.
