- This video explores yet another method of taking in your jeans waist "Tailor your Oversize Jeans" video.
You may have already seen this video a while back. It was my first jeans waist alteration tutorial which I posted last year then took down 2 months ago for a minor revision.
I used a size 16 needle with Tex 60 polyester thread, nylon is also great! My machine is an old industrial Tacsew. I have linked some domestic machine suggestions below.

I just did an easier alteration where you use elastic. It’s a lot less work but still permanent, clean finished and even comfy! ruclips.net/video/oVjFIXMx2Ck/видео.html
thank you for the reply, i’ll look into it❤️
Agree! I have done the elastic solution, too!
I have done the elastic for a temporary fix but I am looking for a more permanent solution and I can’t wait to try this!
I am so excited to try this! Three years ago I had bariatric surgery and my body is finally happy with my weight. I am and I am looking for a permanent way to alter the jeans I already own to fit me instead of going out and buying another size of pants!
I study fashion and this is finally a tutorial where it's done the right way lol everyone does it different but it looks so wrong every time but this is the right way
Thank you! I studied fashion too and I always thought there must be a better way to alter jeans than what I have seen, so one day I just committed to it and VOILA!! Thanks for watching Kim, and all the best in your fashion studies!
omg i thought i commented that
@@LydiaNaomi Totally agree, first tutorial I've found that's actually legit!
Great tutorial but If this is the right way to alter jeans in the fashion industry- what about the fact that one back pocket is closer to the midline and leaves the rear looking uneven? Surely a ‘professional’ job would have accounted for that? The only way I can see to modify them and still have a balanced rear, would be to adjust at the side seams equally?
@@zaradickinson Just taking things in on both sides equally is probably what I’d do, but this method where you take things in at all three positions does potentially mean that you don’t have SO much to take in on the sides that you suddenly have to undo and reposition the seam down the entire outside of the leg. Which...I’ll probably need to do with some of the pants I want to alter. And the small issue of an uneven back aside, this method is exponentially more clean and professional than most of the jeans altering tutorials on the Internet.
from a sewer of 50 years, finally someone who does it right. Very professionally done!
Thank you so much! 🌸
There’s no way in this world that I”ll be able to do this...ever.
Ya never know until you try :))
Try on old jeans
Marlene C i don`t think I could ever find a seamstress who could do this for my jeans
saaaame
Well you could if you try.
You could also follow the way she took in the waistband, then instead of taking in the center seam and sides panels, you could make darts in the back of the jean, between the center seam in each side. (Just so you have an idea how it would look-find a dress pant (men or women), they usually have darts in the back)
**forgot mentioning you need an industrial iron and pressing board to shrink the jean where the darts are if you take more than 4” 🤣🤣. I do my own jeans, the difference between my hips and waistline size it’s huge so I always have to take 3+” in the waist of any of my pants.
the singing at the beginning made me smile and laugh
yaay glad I made you smile
Me too!!
same heueh it was cute
hahah I will be singing that for the rest of my life
Lmao
2 words: mad work😩😭
Aww thanks!
It is “sew” much work!
I meant that this is so much work to do!😭 but the video is amazing and this is worth to do!🖤
Mad Fit though! Perfect pair of jeans? yes please!
That was A LOT but it doesn't look like you altered them at all!! Great job!
Tera Langshaw thank you!!
That’s amazing. Wish I had the patience to actually do it. Wish you were my neighbor so I could pay you any amount to fit my jeans
aww thank you!!
This seems like the first legit tutorial on taking in the waist but it seems so hard!
It looks challenging but if you just commit and block out some time to spend on it, its so worth it!!
I am just learning to sew properly and you can hardly tell that the pants I did are altered, this is amazing! All I did was use a denim needle on a regular sewing machine and sew carefully over the thickest bits, so if you're wondering if you can do this: you can!
Thank you for encouraging everyone Natasha! I am so glad that you found this manageable!!! Go you!!!!
I don’t even know why I’m watching this bc I barely ever wear jeans but I’m tired and I like her voice. Why do I find these things entertaining?
I'm glad you enjoyed
I feel like my sewing machine couldn’t handle this
Aww shoot! Try a hammer to soften the fibres. It really helps!
harmony rhiannon adding onto this, denim thread is great too!
Pretty sure my sewing machine would explode. Lol!
just rotate the wheel on the side of the machine by hand slowly over the thick seams instead of using the foot pedal
Oh yes, i lost 3 needles when i altered my jeans
This is incredible. I’ve tried sewing jeans and....I almost had a mental breakdown. So ur very talented lmao
thank you!! haha I have had my share of breakdowns, you just have to keep trying until you get it and go at it very methodically :)
Holy SHIT this is THE WAY! I have seen so many of these tutorials that cut off the original seams and just take it all from the center and it looks SO amateurish and bad. This is BEAUTIFUL and professional-looking, truly seamless! When you put in the work you get the real real results.
Thank you so much!!
I have watched many tutorials and this is the best. It looks very professional but at the same time you explained so well anyone could do it. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!!!
So, I did it but beacuse I'm stuborn I took three inches from the back ( not 1 from each side) so I altered the seam, now it looks weird, the seam in the butt doesn't look fine, it fit very good tho. So, I will recommend to follow exactly your steps :)
Hi beginners, I just want to let you know that this tutorial is VERY CLEAR AND STRAIGHTFORWARD. I'm a beginner, I literally got my first ever sewing machine just two weeks ago. And my jean shorts is my first garment that I ever altered successfully, it's my first big alteration project. I just finished it an hour ago and HAD to leave this comment. If you doubt that you can do it, DON'T. I cut off too much cloth, and had to think of a way to salvage it. My seams are all over the place and not professionally placed. And I didn't have yellow thread, only white ones. And of course it'll really help if you practise on a piece of old jeans first, so you know what to look out for and won't make the same mistake as me. But overall, despite these mistakes, for a first timer, it really was a success. The waist of my shorts is an inch smaller now and it fits me perfectly. I'm so happy I did it! Took me a grand total of 4 hours :D Definitely have the confidence to tackle another piece in the future.
Thank you so much for that glowing review! I am so so glad that this helped you!!
This is the second time I’ve followed this tutorial, and ITS SO HELPFUL!! The first time, my jeans were a little tight (guess I went a little overboard with cutting out the fabric haha), but I just finished altering another pair and it turned out perfect! Thanks so much💜. And for anyone who thinks it looks like a lot to follow, I’m super new to sewing (I literally learned just enough to sew face masks over the summer), and you just gotta keep with it! Rewatch some of the clips multiple times and go slow, it’ll work☺️
Amazing Nandita! So glad that you shared this! It is the exact tip I would give for new sewers! You rock!!
This is literally the only useful jeans alteration video I have ever seen. I’ve used this technique on dress pants but I’ve always been terrified to try in denim. Thank you! Great video.
You are most welcome! So glad you enjoyed!!🤗☺️🌸
This was the best tutorial for jean alterations I have watched-thank you!
Thanks so much 💓
Impressive! I'm glad to see someone wearing jeans at the natural waist; I really hate low-waisted jeans as they never fit me and aren't flattering on most people (IMO). I think I did a similar alteration on a pair of jeans a couple of decades ago, and it's a major deconstruction/reconstruction job!
thank you! love my high waist jeans!!
I WANT TO SEND YOU ALL MY 20 JEANS AND SHORTS THAT DON’T FIT MY WAIST 🥺🥺 you do it so perfectly!
i thought this would be easy peasy but i have no experience in sewing, cutting up denim, using the sewing machine and all...
Thank you so much! I surely wish I had time for that! What about bringing it to your local tailor and showing them the method?
Orrrr just try a pair, even if your first ones don't turn out you will learn a lot and the next ones will be better, that is the story of my sewing existence :D Slow and methodical is the way!! :) :)
A sewing machine is a great investment and you have RUclips for to start learning with small projects. I'm doing the same.
This is my standard adjustment to all my jeans! As a girl with thick thighs this is awesome to have jeans for well x
Amazing! I was happy to discover this method as I struggle with the same thing with most jeans!
Finally! I’ve never seen a good tutorial on altering jeans. It always looks wonky and messy. Thank you!
No problem ☺️
I am 3 minutes in and grinning from ear to ear that you are totally taking apart these jeans! This is what I would do without knowing what to do, so I'm all in.
I am so happy to make you happy :D
This is the best jean tutorial I’ve found for taking in the waist!! Imma go try it now on like 3 different pairs I have. Thank you :))
Yaaay! Thanks so much! Happy sewing Brooke 🙌🏽
This is the best and cleanest taking-in tutorials I've seen. Great job👌
Glad you think so!
Omg I have a looooooong way to go before I can do this. But at least I know where to come when I wanna try it out! Thanks for teachin me!
You're so welcome!
This is hands down tHE best jeans alteration video out there, it does look very complicated but the results were so good and no one could tell I had altered my jeans!
im so skinny but my thighs are PHAT so i always have to buy jeans too big so i neeeeeeeeeed this
I HEAR you!! So glad this is helpful!
you’re not too fat, you’re just too original for this society that couldn’t create a new jean size for you yet 🤷🏻♀️❤️
Sameeeeeeee
If you can find somewhere that makes custom made jeans, it's life changing!
same!i can never find anything that actually fits my waist but can get over my thighs
Magic.. oh my word.. thank you so much for this tutorial! I really needed this.. No more ill-fitting clothes!
Yaay glad you think so! Happy sewing ☺️
This is such a well done alteration! I’m not sure I would be this patient but she makes it look so easy!
thank you Elizabeth! It just takes a bit of practice :)
If something is worth doing it's worth doing properly. Lots of quick fix videos on waist band alterations but this approach is worth the additional time and effort.
Your tutorial is awesome! I'm not committed enough to the thrift store jeans I want to alter to follow all the steps, but your personality makes the tutorial fun to watch!
I've used this tutorial twice already and going for a third try today! All of my pants fit better now but i agree that it's smart to try on an old pair first, just for practice. Very thorough and well explained, it's easy to follow. Thank you for this great tutorial!
That is sooo awesome to hear! Thank you for following along with my tutorial!
Thank you so much for this! I tried immediately on an old pair of jeans and thanks to this tutorial they fit great on me now!
That’s wonderful! I am so glad you were successful!!
You are incredible! As a petite gal, I need my clothes altered a ton and I have yet to find someone to take in my jeans this beautifully!
Powerlifter here. I buy pants 4-6 inches larger than my waist to accommodate my hips and thighs.Took some pants to a tailor and all they said they could do was take in the waistband. I'm looking forward to giving this approach a shot!
The song at the beginning was so great 🤣 and I did this on a pair of jeans tonight and it worked BRILLIANTLY!!!! tthaaank you!!!!
Oh yesss!! Im so glad you did it! I bet it looks amazing 💓🙌🏽🌸
thank you so so much for this awesome video!! I doubted my sewing skills at first but I only took in my jeans on the back seam and I am so proud of how it turned out, your video was extremely helpful!! keep up the great content queen 💞
Yaaay Brooke! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 so glad I could be of help!!!💓
I've seen every jean alteration video from diy channels, this is BY far the best one!!!! Great explanation, tips and sewing shots! Keep going 👍👍
Thank you so much!!
Lydia this was helpful. I'm adding sewing machine to my Christmas list as I am NEVER satisfied with my jeans. This method is alot different than what I've binged watched on RUclips today. You're method is by far the best as it makes most sense to me and keeps the look of the jean. The other videos I've seen will fold the extra fabric, sew it down, then cut the extra fabric off, stitch it. But then once you put it on you see the creases like a pleated pant. Like I don't want no pleated pants, I want jeans yo! Anyway love the video. Very helpful. Blessings to you too
This video made my sewing genius playlist!
Wow so honored
This is my first time seeing you and I already love you 😂❤️❤️❤️
aww thank ya!! :D
This is so brilliant, thank you for sharing! I altered a pair of vintage Levi’s and now they fit me like a glove. 🙌🙏✨
So happy for your success!!
best tutorial ever!! My jeans turned out amazing!!
Using my Granny’s old Singer from the 50’s makes me afraid of trying this :(
But looks like you know what you’re doing. Thanks for your info!!
You can do it! Go sloww and use a hammer to soften the fibres. Also use a thicker needle and walk the machine over really thick parts :)
Sending blessings to everyone who watched this video and is praying for a safe days
I really enjoyed your confident and pleasant step by step guide! As you worked you spoke at a pace where I didn't miss anything, and your camera work was focused with smooth transitions, too. I have wanted to alter pants for a long time. Now I am ready to tackle it! Thanks for showing how.
Wow I am so happy that you find it so helpful Midge, really encouraging and pleasant comment :)
FINALLY! Thanks Lydia I have four pairs of 501's that only need an inch or so taken in. They are practically new and have been sitting there for years. I will admit I know how to sew a little but if I really take my time (and patience), things work out perfectly. My biggest hurtle is getting through the heavy layers of fabric. As far as the thread I found some "Levies" thread!. One thing is it is very thick, but doable. Times like this I wish I had a commercial machine. Thanks again for the fix...Well Done.
Very well done video. Thank you. I like guy jeans because of they have real pockets, front and back. Was hoping there was an easier way but this is obviously the right way. Time to dig in.
Ya just commit and take it slow and you will be rewarded in the end! The first time i attempted this I was quite hesitant but knew it would probably work and I have now fixed 4 pairs of jeans this way!! ☺️🎉
This was amazing. And also made me realize this is completely beyond my capabilities 😂
Your audio is very informative and entertaining. The video is so detailed that as a viewer, it looks simple but scary. The final outcome is so amazing. You are so amazing! Thank you for this.
Thank you so much Chenne! I am so please you found this helpful even if a little scary!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!! it was INCREDIBLY helpful, I had finally found a pair of mom jeans for $10 and they were just a little to big on the waist and this tutorial finally allowed me to rock them after MONTHS of searching for the “perfect” mom jean.
You are most welcome! Aww that makes me so happy!! Such a win for you!!! Now you have a $10 pair of awesome jeans!!
It's nice to have a sewing machine, ryt now i just handsew everything i alter
Thats great that you are able to handsew! Thats how it all begins 😊😉💓
Ooo girl Mad respect. I'm typically one for DIYs and learning to do things for myself to be self sufficient and save money blah blah etc etc but... less than two minutes into this video and... I'll just pay someone to do this lol take my money
haha I hear you, it was a daunting undertaking at first but the outcome is so worth it! I have done this technique now, 4 times in varying levels of difficulty, it gets easier with every attempt!
right!!! I even let her commercials play through! she deserves all the clicks, all the likes, all the kickbacks!
The best final product I’ve seen on a waist adjustment tutorial! Great job!
Thanks you so much!!
This worked like a dream 😭🙏 my sewing machine hated the denim but my jeans came out better than any other alteration method I’ve tried
“I just want to learn how to properly tailor my waist so my jeans last long and still looks professionally done”....... “Oh, oh shit.” But wow, I mean that as a compliment! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with all of us!!
thanks so much!!!!
Realizing I have to take apart my entire pants to do this and then sew them back up by hand because I don't have a sewing machine....
For real, love this video! It's super helpful and exactly what I've been looking for
I've never tailored or sewn anything and it took me 4 days to complete but I did it! Thank you so much for this!!!!
That is so awesome!!
Cool video, but that took way too much effort. I’d be cool paying someone to do this for me or buying a new pair of jeans. I feel like I’d mess up somewhere in the process too, you made it look easy girl.
Thank you so much ☺️🌻
alllll of my jeans are large around the waist like this, i really need to buy a sewing machine lol
Get one!!! Sewing is THE BEST!!
Lydia Naomi i’m convinced!!! the search is on!
Yaay! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😃💓
Fantastic way of fixing these sort of problems with any pants and especially Levis jeans..
Yes indeed! Thank you!
out of all the videos I've watched for doing this same way you are the only one! Everyone else just does darts and calls it a day. Thank you and subbed
Oh thank you so much! I really appreciate that!!
No darts you say? IM LISTENING
Haha yaaaaas!!
Um I’d rather just put the darts on each side😂😂but you did a great job though.
Haha ya thank you!! 😅 I do recognize its quite the undertaking!!
This Jean alteration is fantastic! Thanks ... you clever girl.
I bought some really cheap oversized shorts from Abercrombie a while back. I just took out 8 inches worth off waist out of them and they fit me perfectly. Thank you so much!! It only took a 2 podcasts worth of time :)
I have zero patience and anger issues I would probably get stressed out & start yelling at the pants to sew itself
Haha that was totally me when I started sewing! Sewing does take a lot of patience but the good thing is you get better with each try!
Wow this is without a doubt the best tutorial tutorial for taking in your jeans!!
Thank you so much!!
This is a great tutorial, I have a few pairs I want to take in, so I’m gonna watch a few more times and have a go! You can’t even tell they’ve been altered ❤️
Yeaahh you can do it!! and thank you!!
Thank you for this!!! the only tutorial I've seen where you can't see the alteration. I'm not a good sewer but I was able to follow along and I'm sitting here in my new jeans that fit perfectly rn!
Glad I could help!!!
I literally need someone like you in my life
🤗🤗🤗
Designer for 25 years. I'm so impressed with this and love your delivery. Kudos!
Wow, thank you!!!
Atlast I found the right way of altering the jeans!
This worked so great for me, thank you so much! I'm so glad I didn't have to use darts because I don't think my pants had enough space for darts anyway. This was easier than I thought, but still took me 4-5 hours in total. It was a fun project and I feel like a huge success!!!
Love it. Finally a tutorial that has a professional end result!
Thank you so MUCH :D
Oh, thank you so much! I knew this could be done, but I was super intimidated. Seeing this actually happen gives me the confidence I need to try it myself!
Yaaay so glad!! You can do it!!!
people with sewing skills always impress me. great job!
Thank you! 😊
Thank you Lydia. Love the pin cushion.
Very good tutorial, from someone who struggles with finding jeans that fit, these tips and tricks will come in handy. Most of the time we see the extra is taken in at the Center back, kinda neat how to distribute the amount taken in between 3 seams, I usually just make darts by my back pockets, this method avoids needing darts
You're awesome. I have a really stretchy jeans to adjust the waist for a customer. This is a great help. Thanks
Amazing! So glad this helped you!!
This was one of the best jeans alterations I've seen thank you so much
Yay! Thank you!
First tutorial I’ve watched where you can’t tell they were altered just amazingggg🙌🙌🙌
Why thank you Rue! I am flattered!
Great job. I appreciate someone who pays attention to detail! I subscribed.
Thank you Valerie! I love me some detail haha!
Sis you really said Masterclass for this one-I’m here for it 👏🏾 This is the review I want. Not no half assed stitch job 😮💨
Thank you so much for this!!! so helpful and my jeans turned out sooooo goooooood!!!
I had no idea how to do a smooth waist band so this step really helped for the look I wanted.
So glad to help in this way
I’ve always been sewing by hand and now I’m thinking about buying a new sewing machine (since my old one no longer works). I just discovered your video, I can’t wait to watch more videos from you 🥰
You can do it! Thank you so much!
I watched so many tutorials on jeans alteration. That's from faaaar the best, ever!! Thanks a lot... can't wait to try😁😁
Thank you!!! 🌸🥰 I hope you have lots of fun with it!
Thanks SO much for creating this video !!! I have used it so many times :)
Thank you for the tutorial. Worked for me and never would have considered a tapered angle or the side seems. 😃
Thanks For That Video Very Well Explain I was Looking for A Video Like This Now I Can Do Mines Thank You For The Well Explanation Love It
Omg please do more tutorials like these. You're delivering god's grace gurl 😩🙏
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed!!! I'll keep em comin!!
This is great. It helps to have an industrial machine like yours. Most people's simple Brother machine would cry at those seams.
Thank you!
I just mastered this!!!! thank you thank you!!!! I'm a moderate to beginner sewer and I was able to pull this off with flying colors, I promise you (you reading this) can too!!!!
That is so wonderful to hear! And so encouraging to other beginners!
thank God for a useful video with someone that’s talented!
Wow, thank you!
loved it 😀 ...exactly what I needed, thank u!
Until now i was intimidated by the rivets. Very thorough and it gives me the confidence to do it the right way, thank you!
Yaaay so happy for your new confidence!!
Normally I find tutorials incredibly boring but I loved your singing, comments and personality! looks scary but you make is seem possible! Thanks for the video!
Wow thank you so much Kathryn
