Recommendation for those who want something similar to ✨️Six of Crows! ✨️ The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. Genre bending fantasy. There are many similarities to Six of Crows. A cool mastermind main character and his squad doing very complicated impossible seeming criminal stuff in a lowkey f*cked up city that has canals, illnesses and gangs. Murder, sarcasm, found family and likable characters. Really amazing book but I feel like it is even more harsh and intense with your feelings than Six of Crows. It will hurt you. I lowkey think Six of Crows is a bit inspired by The Lies of Locke Lamora since it was published a lot earlier but who knows. I love the Six of Crows duology but Lies of Locke Lamora is BETTER (at least in my opinion). Hope y'all have fun in case you pick it up💕
Sadly, Lies of Locke lamora isn't gay. Which discourages me from reading it, tbh. A big part of why I love six of crows is the representation. I tried Locke, got bored. But I do want to read the series one day.
For the Six Of Crows recommendation I would add The Gentleman Bastards ! (It's for adults and can be quite violent be careful). It's very different but yet very similar. It kinda felt the same. Similar humour, the main character has many common points with Kaz, the world building is sooo cool, there is a big filthy city with canals, a found family trope...
I love this series, especially the first book ❤ Let me just copy-paste the little comment I wrote under the other person recommending this: A little extra warning for SOC fans: If you're looking for a clever and interesting heist story, tight-knit friends with fun banter, great backstory, well-written flawed characters who get caught up in all sorts of crazy stuff, high stakes, beautiful but gritty fantasy city vibes, and a wonderful balance between hope, tragedy, humor and suspense, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this. But if you're specifically looking for (well-written) romance or a diverse cast, you might do better to look elsewhere. (This book does have diversity btw - there are different body types, people with glasses, and different ages - but not in the same way as SOC since the main group are all cishet guys with mostly similar hair and skin colors. No romance in book 1. Some romance in books 2 and 3, but not as well-written as SOC.) Just a heads-up in case these elements matter to you :)
Hannah is one of the RUclipsrs i open a new video and immediately click like, because i just hear her voice and it's like "Oooh, yessss, instant serotonin!!" It's very soothing and i love the say she talks. Plus new nice book recs! ❤❤❤
The book recommendations were SPOT ON!!! atleast I felt this for the "A man called Ove" because oh my god !!!!! i loved it and the description fit it so well!!!
Been watching your videos since 2017, when booktube used to be a very different place. I've adored seeing you evolve and face your struggles so bravely over these years. Although I don't watch many book videos anymore, still love coming here sometimes. You have wonderful energy! Also, if no one told you this today, you are so very beautiful. Thanks and hope you keep well
HOZIER REC (also a rec i've given countless times because NOBODY knows this book and its one of my favorites of all time): CHIME BY FRANNY BILLINGSLEY!! it's a standalone witchy fantasy and i would say its vibes are very self-titled album with a dash of as it was and nfwmb
a book that feels like a hozier song.. what a brilliant idea, that's now my homework, my reading goal, like honestly it's a need. I want nothing more than to dive into that beautiful, talented man's unbelievable mindscape
Love the video 🤍 would love see more of these videos Hannah As for recs: ATLA vibes - I heard The sword of Kaigen fits this in regard to elemental magic, also I have never seen a book have so many positive reviews as this. Six of crows rec- definitely mistborn (especially the first book, the final empire) Scottish highlands cosy book - a study in drowning, it’s the vibess Blue cover, will make you cry - As long as the lemon trees grow 🍋 Short and memorable- six deaths of a saint (short story and its incredible, coming from someone who isn’t a big fan of short stories) SJM reformed - (firstly congrats) the folk of the air trilogy
okay these are really good choices ! still need to read sword of kaigen but her works are spoken of so so highly, you're right i've only seen good things. also as soon as six of crows was mentioned i thought of my other heist love. mistborn didn't feel as heisty to me tbh, but yeah i think everything (or almost) beloved in SoC can be found in mistborn.
Not me being a reformed SJM girlie and literally reading the Ember in the Ashes rn because I watched a video months ago of you saying that. Currently on A Sky Beyond the Storm and everything u said is so true lmao😩
Question: Is the ending worth it/satisfying? I only read the first two and then had to stop because the story was so HEAVY to me. So much tragedy and heartbreak, and I felt frustrated at how everything seemed to go wrong. 😭 But I see it recommended ALL the time and I really, REALLY loved the first one by itself, so should I read the whole series?? 😂
I discovered the Last Magician Series and the Truthwitch Series through your channel and loved them both. They were THE escapist fantasy books for me during quarantine so thank you!
I have a recommendation for literally everyone, it's called "the six deaths of the saint" .it's only 30 pages, but after you read it the first thing that would come to your mind is HOW TF DOES THIS 30 PAGE BOOK HAVE BETTER STORY, BETTER CHARACTERS, BETTER WORLD BUILDING, BETTER ROMANCE THAN A 500 PAGE FANTASY BOOK?
I had to go away and think about "books that feel like a Hozier song" recommendations and I was kinda surprised to find that I haven't read many; here are my best suggestions though: Obvious choice, "The song of Achilles"; beautiful, lyrical writing, religious imagery, memorable love story, doomed hero/relationship. Feels a bit useless to suggest it though since I'm sure everyone's heard about it already. Other obvious choices are pretty much all classic gothic stories for again, beautiful, lyrical writing, and also eerie vibes, themes surrounding obsession, longing and lonelines. Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Phantom of the Opera, Frankenstein, Interview with the Vampire etc. Last one, I'm a bit less confident on this but I still feel like it ticks enough boxes: The Red and The Black by Stendhal. Hear me out: beautiful writing, protagonist is an intense, dramatic and ambitious young man that keeps getting distracted and falls in love with every woman he meets, there's social commentary regarding class and opportunities.
LIST: Truthwitch The last magician Starling house A river enchanted A man called Ove Never let me go The last tale of the flower bride These violent delights People we meet on vacation On earth we're briefly gorgeous Juniper & Thorn woman eating The metamorphosis The Little Prince The ones who walk away from Omelas Ripe An ember in the ashes Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries Parable of the sower A dowry of blood
ohmygod this is my time to SHINE i have sooo many hozier inspired book recs starting with unreal unearth, - the first and most obvious rec is Dante’s Inferno since the album takes a bunch of inspo from it - the Skyhunter duology by Mari Lu which specifically gives I Carrion (Icarian) and Butchered Tongue - guessing most of u have read The Hunger Games but Katniss and Peeta are sooo Francesca, also i think the link to Eat Your Young is pretty self explanatory, also Through me (The Flood) even though its not technically on the album - if you feel like turning your brain off for some super cliche romantasy, The Broken Elf King by Leia Stone reminds me of Abstract (Psychopomp) and First Light next up wasteland baby - the cruel prince is so talk and be in my mind - if you like that one tik tok audio that's like ‘how i love being a woman’ over would that i, read anne of green gables (which also reminds me of wasteland baby the title track) finally from his self titled - love & gelato by Jenna Evans Welch reminds me of jackie and wilson - we hunt the flame reminds me of angel of small death & the codeine scene and NFWMB (not the same album but shhh) - six of crows just reminds me of the whole album, specifically Work Song, Sedated and Foreigner’s God anyways if anyone has any recs that remind them of in a week or unknown/nth pls lmk theyre my favourite hozier songs and i need the recs :)
Ooh for Unknown/nth maybe The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab, it’s literally about a girl who is forgotten (unknown) by everyone she meets!
Also American Gods by Neil Gaiman! It deals with the concept of the old gods of mythology being forgotten and fading from existence because no one believes in them anymore, also the main character is very closed off and kind of a loner, which in my mind fits with the narrator in Unknown ✨
An Ember in the Ashes was the PERFECT rec for that one I adore that series 😍 I just checked out Never Let Me Go from the library and I’m super excited to read it I’ve heard really interesting things!
LMAO, the way she is so excited talking about books makes me thrilled. You can watch her videos for fun, which is not common. I love books and I love it when someone shows the same vehemence I do when I talk about them and I definitely loved the reformed Sarah J Maas part lol.
i would love love love to see a video on TRUE enemies to lovers books or even tier ranking books in that category!!! im off to read an ember in the ashes!
Maybe less of a "sad girl horror" and more of a "suppressed anger girl horror" but I definitely recommend Slewfoot by BROM, one of my favorite reads of last year ❤
Time and time again I look for videos that capture all the good things about the old booktube days and I think Hannah still captures it. Or maybe I’ve been here for a long time.

If you want another series for ATLA fans, I highly recommend the books that have been written in the Avatar universe! There are 2 YA books about a young Avatar Kyoshi and 2 about Avatar Yangchen and they're SO GOOD.
can i just say, every single time i watch one of your videos, my tbr list grows more and more. i think its the way that you not only describe the books but get so excited to talk about them makes me intrigued to read them. great video 🩷
It's always lovely to see your videos, Hannah. You're the first Booktuber I followed and I absolutely love your passion for books as well as detailed discussions about them. I love the book recommendations videos and hope to see more of them. Have you tried reading the favourite books of some fellow RUclipsrs or maybe a way to diversify it further is to read each book from a different genre while trying to cover them all?
Some books that feel like Hozier's "Unreal Unearth" songs to me: - De Selby (Part 1): "Pan's Labyrinth" by Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke - Eat your young: "The salt grows heavy" by Cassandra Khaw - Who we are: "No matter the wreckage: Poems" by Sarah Kay - Abstract (Psychopomp): "The Moth presents: All these wonders" by various authors - Unknown/Nth: "The invisible life of Addie LaRue" by V.E. Schwab
For borderline sapphic obsessive codependent female friendship also : My Brilliant Friend. Mommy issued and immigrant family : The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina.
i've been raving about the last magician for ages now, it's one of my faves and still, no one is talking about it😭 made me so happy that you mentioned it 🫶🏻
Another gay vampire rec would be Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. It an enemies to lovers between a vampire and a mage. I didn't love the series but the first book is fantastic.
I'm reading “A Torch Against the Night” as we speak and I'm obsessed with it. Such a great series so far! The first book got me out of my reading slump. With that being said, I really love ToG aswell. 😅
books I've enjoyed as a reformed SJM reader: The Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden Darker Shade of Magic Series by VE Schwab Emily Wilde series by Heather Fawcett Savage Wilds series by Sean Fletcher Rowan Blood series by Kellen Graves Where Oceans Burn duology by Casey L. Bond
I love this video. I'm rather impressed you were able to find books for all of these requests. Some of them were really specific. I have lots of new books to look up for my tbr lol.
I appreciated the whole monologue about recommendations for readers from Sarah J. Maas...but, I SCREAMED when you said An Ember in the Ashes. I've been putting off reading this for years because I'm sure I won't be able to get over it when I finish reading it. 😫😫
I absolutely love the Witchlands series, and I agree that it gives atla vibes!! For people who want to start it, the series isn't completely finished yet; the finale of the series is coming out next year. But I still recommend reading what's out so far!!
Its incredibly hilarious how as a reformed sarah j Maas reader who got into acotar as my first high fantasy at the ripe age of 13 (incredible) i am now a hard core fan of ember in the ashes reading the 3rd book for the first time
divine rivals will always remind me of "work song"by hozier but i would also love ANY book recommendations that feel like a hozier song. ALSO when i saw you uploaded i got SO excited, ty so much for all of the recommendations! Hope you're doing well
the obvious recommendation to give is “This is How You Lose the Time War” because the imagery and loving language is so Hozier. For a more vibes related read (Wasteland Baby specifically) try “Last Night at the Telegraph Club.” It’s a YA sapphic romance set during the 50s. The way the main character feels her desires so deeply and is willing to fight for it, and how the love interest likes her for those rebellious traits too-it reads Hozier esque to me.

Love the video 🤍 would love see more of these videos Hannah
As for recs:
ATLA vibes - I heard The sword of Kaigen fits this in regard to elemental magic, also I have never seen a book have so many positive reviews as this.
Six of crows rec- definitely mistborn (especially the first book, the final empire)
Scottish highlands cosy book - a study in drowning, it’s the vibess
Blue cover, will make you cry - As long as the lemon trees grow 🍋
Short and memorable- six deaths of a saint (short story and its incredible, coming from someone who isn’t a big fan of short stories)
SJM reformed - (firstly congrats) the folk of the air trilogy
okay these are really good choices ! still need to read sword of kaigen but her works are spoken of so so highly, you're right i've only seen good things. also as soon as six of crows was mentioned i thought of my other heist love. mistborn didn't feel as heisty to me tbh, but yeah i think everything (or almost) beloved in SoC can be found in mistborn.
Not me being a reformed SJM girlie and literally reading the Ember in the Ashes rn because I watched a video months ago of you saying that. Currently on A Sky Beyond the Storm and everything u said is so true lmao😩
YESSSS THE AN EMBER IN THE ASHES QUARTET NEEDS MORE HYPE!!!!!
Yessss Truthwitch!!! I love that series so much, it's not talked about nearly enough!!
I can really recommend "Interview with a vampire". It has some weird and questionable things, but anne rice writing style is really a treat.
A book that feel like a Hozier song is The Lord of the Sabbath (Nation of the Beasts) by Mariana Palova, specifically the song Damage gets done
An Ember in the ashes is my favorite series of all book series i have read❤
I discovered the Last Magician Series and the Truthwitch Series through your channel and loved them both. They were THE escapist fantasy books for me during quarantine so thank you!
These Violent Delights is one of my fave books of all time, and it makes me so happy anytime it gets recognition. So underrated.
I had to go away and think about "books that feel like a Hozier song" recommendations and I was kinda surprised to find that I haven't read many; here are my best suggestions though:
Obvious choice, "The song of Achilles"; beautiful, lyrical writing, religious imagery, memorable love story, doomed hero/relationship.
Would recommend When we Lost Our Heads for the obsessive codependent maybe sapphic book prompt! I only found it okay, but it fits that perfectly
LIST:
Truthwitch
The last magician
Starling house
A river enchanted
A man called Ove
Never let me go
The last tale of the flower bride
These violent delights
People we meet on vacation
On earth we're briefly gorgeous

The metamorphosis
The Little Prince
The ones who walk away from Omelas
Ripe
An ember in the ashes
Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries
Parable of the sower
A dowry of blood
My soul is blessed each time you post a video
I personally really enjoyed A Man Called Otto with Tom Hanks. I would love to read the original book.
I read the book and still enjoyed it.
ohmygod this is my time to SHINE i have sooo many hozier inspired book recs
starting with unreal unearth,
- the first and most obvious rec is Dante’s Inferno since the album takes a bunch of inspo from it
- the Skyhunter duology by Mari Lu which specifically gives I Carrion (Icarian) and Butchered Tongue
- guessing most of u have read The Hunger Games but Katniss and Peeta are sooo Francesca, also i think the link to Eat Your Young is pretty self explanatory, also Through me (The Flood) even though its not technically on the album
- if you feel like turning your brain off for some super cliche romantasy, The Broken Elf King by Leia Stone reminds me of Abstract (Psychopomp) and First Light
next up wasteland baby
- the cruel prince is so talk and be in my mind
- if you like that one tik tok audio that's like ‘how i love being a woman’ over would that i, read anne of green gables (which also reminds me of wasteland baby the title track)
finally from his self titled
- love & gelato by Jenna Evans Welch reminds me of jackie and wilson
- we hunt the flame reminds me of angel of small death & the codeine scene and NFWMB (not the same album but shhh)
- six of crows just reminds me of the whole album, specifically Work Song, Sedated and Foreigner’s God
anyways if anyone has any recs that remind them of in a week or unknown/nth pls lmk theyre my favourite hozier songs and i need the recs :)
@@winterwonderbookland3679 thank you sm !!
An Ember in the Ashes was the PERFECT rec for that one I adore that series 😍 I just checked out Never Let Me Go from the library and I’m super excited to read it I’ve heard really interesting things!
YESSS, I always tell people The Last Magician is a perfect follow-up for SoC!
I love that you show the ACTUAL comments or questions from us. ❤❤❤
Maybe less of a "sad girl horror" and more of a "suppressed anger girl horror" but I definitely recommend Slewfoot by BROM, one of my favorite reads of last year ❤
A book that has atla vibes is 100% the Sword of Kaigen. It’s by an indie author and (in my opinion) it shows what waterbenders can really do
Time and time again I look for videos that capture all the good things about the old booktube days and I think Hannah still captures it. Or maybe I’ve been here for a long time.

you just convinced me to start my reread of An Ember in the Ashes! It’s my favorite series and absolutely did change my life
These requests were so good! We want more
Love the Hozier idea!!!
Seeing you mention these books is giving me watching you in 2017-18 flashbacks😂
If you want another series for ATLA fans, I highly recommend the books that have been written in the Avatar universe! There are 2 YA books about a young Avatar Kyoshi and 2 about Avatar Yangchen and they're SO GOOD.
LOVE the last magician series so much
I am absolutely looking forward to reading The Last Magician!!! Cannot wait to read something like SoC!!! THANK YOU!
15:00 Yes, yes and YES!! I love An ember in the ashes quartet so much!!!
can i just say, every single time i watch one of your videos, my tbr list grows more and more. i think its the way that you not only describe the books but get so excited to talk about them makes me intrigued to read them. great video 🩷
Wait I'm just taking a break from writing my thesis and right then there's a Hannah upload? Life is good 💛
It's always lovely to see your videos, Hannah.
Ok Hozier books.... Slewfoot by Brom, and I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me by Jamison Shea
A recommendation for sad girl horror: Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
Some books that feel like Hozier's "Unreal Unearth" songs to me:
- De Selby (Part 1): "Pan's Labyrinth" by Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke
- Eat your young: "The salt grows heavy" by Cassandra Khaw
- Who we are: "No matter the wreckage: Poems" by Sarah Kay
- Abstract (Psychopomp): "The Moth presents: All these wonders" by various authors
- Unknown/Nth: "The invisible life of Addie LaRue" by V.E. Schwab
Ember in the Ashes deserves all the love and more!!! Truly life-changing.
For borderline sapphic obsessive codependent female friendship also : My Brilliant Friend.
Mommy issued and immigrant family : The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina.
i've been raving about the last magician for ages now, it's one of my faves and still, no one is talking about it😭 made me so happy that you mentioned it 🫶🏻
The first two Last Magician books are SO GOOD. I keep meaning to get back to the series, they were fantastic
This kind of felt like a bit of a throwback video and I lovedddd it. Definitely eager for part 2
books I've enjoyed as a reformed SJM reader:
The Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden
Darker Shade of Magic Series by VE Schwab
Emily Wilde series by Heather Fawcett
Savage Wilds series by Sean Fletcher
Rowan Blood series by Kellen Graves
Where Oceans Burn duology by Casey L.
I'm suffering in anticipation. I haven't read Sarah's books but I want to.
I absolutely love the Witchlands series, and I agree that it gives atla vibes!! For people who want to start it, the series isn't completely finished yet; the finale of the series is coming out next year. But I still recommend reading what's out so far!!
9:12 I LOVE this book, read it last year, instantly an all-time fave
I’ve been rewatching House of Anubis recently and now I really wanna read a book that has similar vibes but less cringey and I need recommendations 😩
My (queer) vampire recommendation is Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco. Sooo good.
Its incredibly hilarious how as a reformed sarah j Maas reader who got into acotar as my first high fantasy at the ripe age of 13 (incredible) i am now a hard core fan of ember in the ashes reading the 3rd book for the first time
For a Hozier Song, In a Week reminded me of the book Where the Crawdads Sing because of the dead body
2:48 The Truthwitch series is so good!!!
I demand for a part 2 right away.
JUST finished the A River Enchanted duology and I can’t believe I haven’t heard of it before❤
divine rivals will always remind me of "work song"by hozier but i would also love ANY book recommendations that feel like a hozier song. ALSO when i saw you uploaded i got SO excited, ty so much for all of the recommendations! Hope you're doing well
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES!!!! I adore this series like so much!
Sad girl horror recs: 'House of Hollow' by Krystal Sutherland, also 'The Invocations' by the same author. I ate both books up, i loved them SO much.
the obvious recommendation to give is “This is How You Lose the Time War” because the imagery and loving language is so Hozier.
THE QUEEN IS BAAACKKK!!!!! I missed your book recommendations soo much...when I saw you posted, I smiled so hard my face legit began hurting🤩🤩💕❤
“books for/about corporate girlies in their twenties trying to make it through the day” my thought was American Psycho but yours are good too
finally, i love your videos so so much Hannah
Love any chance to hear a list of your favourite books. Thanks Hannah
The way I screamed On Earth we're briefly gorgeous when I saw mommy issues and immigrant family. This is literally THE book for this
Sad girl horror rec: Bunny.
I personally loved it, but I know some people find it too weird :D
Sad, triumphant, and strong in the face of impossible odds is Aminata. Aminata!
