- Here's an updated video of my collection, there are over 400 machines now in the collection, many not on display and in storage as I have run out of room but here's a selection of some of the on display machines, a number of which have not been seen before and haven't been filmed.
You Sir, have an astounding collection of recorders I never seen, such as the EMI unit. Many many unique Studio systems used in the 40's up to the 70"s ? Thanks for your heart to care for this history!
Awesome as always. A true pleasure to see those tape machines, mainly for those of us who still are using them for our work even in today's world.
Fantastic!!! It is the best and largest collection of R2R in the world.
What an impressive reel to reel tape recorders collection. Lost for words here. Great piece of music to listen too.
Hello and many thanks, I wrote the song too
Everyone's got their personal favorite machine, mine is the BTR2. I love that wide sweeping tape path and the 'bomb proof' design. Thanks for showing us your great collection.
So THIS is what reel to reel heaven looks like!
But TEAC Fan, how many actually work? to be open reel HEAVEN they would ALL have to work! ( but I agree - how much fun!! ) - signed - a A3440 and a X2000R - on the TEAC side of the house, and an RT909 sitting on top of an RT 701 in the basement!
TEAC Fan: I know that's right...
Oh...my...God. My heart is racing! What a RUSH I got from seeing all of these gorgeous machines housed in one "temple"!
WOW! What a collection! I have a dozen RTR’s and I see several of mine in this collection, TEAC, AKAI, SANSUI, REVOX and ROBERTS ALONG WITH AN UNUSUAL tambour front AMPEX.
I'm at a loss for words. So many beautiful machines. They are all works of art. Well done my friend; you have an awesome collection. Im so jealous. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Thanks for the kind comments :0)
Superb collection, particularly the rare 1950s era studio consoles ... plus great soundtrack music! Thanks for sharing.
Great selection of machines ~ I love Studer and Revox ~ Have you seen the selection of machines in the Studer Revox museum in Zurich? Well worth a look!

Have you considered doing a Q&A? I know it's a bit _'everyone is doing those lately'_ thing, but seriously with your knowledge base and a serious collection like this, those of us in the industry would thoroughly enjoy your input. Cheers and great video/collection!
+tubeie07 Yea, I have but its a thankless task, I set up a forum for people to post their questions and I do get around to replying to them
This is the best video around :-)
Hi Stuart! I love your new video! 400 - yikes! So many of the machines you've acquired never seem to show up here in the US (not that we have any extra funds currently). My day job has prevented our museum from moving forward for the past 15 months. However we're about to embark on some new efforts. We're at about 225 recorders + the mics and mixers, but totally out of room. We so want a permanent public facility. The University of Texas even produced plans for us. My wife is from Suffolk, so next time we're over, I'd love to visit! Cheers! Martin momsr.org.
An amazing collection of machines, thanks for posting these clips.
Thank you :-)
wow you did it a huge massive room of reel to reel tape decks wow this is amazing and they are all so beautiful and so amazing in their own way . Like a person has an identity so do these tape decks . enjoy them and I am sure you will get another building soon for more of them great collection and video
NICE COLLECTION !!!! ENVY YOU !!!!!
Okay, you’re nuts. Also, _more_! I WANT MORE!
On a more serious note, I love your videos documenting restoration work. I’d love to see more of those.
+Ast A. Moore Cheers :) Funny you should say that but I have just started work on a Lyrec PTR-1 with speed issues but the problem is doing fault finding and video is rather detracting, though I am trying with this machine due to its nature of its fault, but the time I did the video and started fault finding, the fault diapered. I need to find a rather easy fault to find and document that.
Seblington Yes, disappearing faults are the worst kind!
You could film it on and off, that’s okay, as long as we can see the guts and some before/after measurements/oscillograms with your commentary (even if it’s an after-the-fact voiceover).
Impresionant
Мы так любили их когда-то...
We so loved them once!
Awesome models and amount of magic and unique machines. Each of them deserves special attention but my favorite one is Studer A820. Also Sony APR 5003 V is driving me crazy. Unfortunately is hard and very expensive to get some of them today. Especially in excellent condition. I own Akai GX 747, 635D and 77. Also Technics RS-1506 is the one i use daily. Sounds amazing in the presences of good acoustic system of course. I’m thinking to get one of Pioneer RT-909. Has a nice look and excellent quality of playing.
Fantastic!
Absolutely, an awesome big collection, beautiful, i'm glad you upload new videos again.
+YZFR VintageAudio Cheers :-)
Epic collection!! You should open it as a museum!!
+Knuckles the Echidna Use to be a part of one, I did the recorders, someone else did radios, and another did cameras and projectors, but sadly it was closed down to make way for sa supermarket because in our town we so desperately needed another :-/
one day, future archeologists will discover a collapsed mountain of reel to reel decks and a homosapiens skeleton at the bottom center of the pile
LOL
every time I watch this I am in awe of the great variety of tape recorders you have I was wondering what the rarest and most expensive recorders you have a re you must have a very good security system to protect this great vast collection all the best and keep the great videos coming they are great all the best
Security system ... AND temp / humidity control, I hope.
the btr 4 brings tears to my eyes- i had 3! 2 stereo and one mono i buit 2 decent stereos out of them as i had brand new headblocks- and a pile of brand new spares got them for free from a uni that i was working at unfortunatly when i left i arranged to store them there untill i could sort storage - then some one skipped the lot 23 years later im still having dreams about them- and all i have now is a poxy teac 32
Impressive indeed.
My dream room.....
great vid. looks tidy now the garage , like the fact that all the machines have reels and tape on them , have a telefunken m 15 a , b62 , A 80. myself.
Cheers for the kind words :-)
Good afternoon, Seblington! Writes You The Old Soviet Music Lover. When the young man was engaged in Analog sound for themselves. Had a very large collection of coils. But in the 90s all sold. Now being retired decided to remember his youth. Collect reel with Soviet and Foreign records. But apparatus the old Soviet "Union 110." And so I want to have a good import, like Akai 635, for quality sound. But the pension does not allow. And at all Your collection, a cool! Maybe that there is extra and will help the music Lover-the retiree as a gift. C. Respect.
I've dreamed for years of being able to own at least one. This just bums me out
I saw this video so many times, but i need to see more closely, as i don't see any soviet recorder here, i'm right?
You are right, there’s not really much there I think I have one portable and that’s about it
hi you are the only one in the uk with this number of decks i ever seen
i used to get around myself looking at decks corr you got to have help over time getting decks in
i am finding the tascam 30 lines are not that great and someone need to make a new pcb logic (pcb way )
because the pcb in the decks are going bad over time i am finding now 40 years very good
i am finding drop outs on my brennel mini 8 after i just fix it on the trans port
Can you get the lid of a BTR up in time to deflect a ball of paper thrown at you from the other side of the studio :)
I love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👌🏾
Reely nice colection
Absolutely astounding: Tape Paradise. Do they get to each other and reproduce?
Damn ... And I though having three reel to reels was two many.
How many all time hits got rcordered in that equipment
Amazing
Sehr tolle Sammlung Respekt
Mooie collectie jonghuuuuuu
An amazing collection of Open Reel Tape Decks as i have never seen before ! Most of them are professional big studio equipments i think, they were not used in households. Were the oldest ones Mono recorders? How did you afford to buy such a vast collection of over 400 machines? These are very rare to see in our country. Thanks for the video.
Hello and thank you for your kind comments, I have been collecting for over 20 years now, and the collection is even bigger now, lucky for me 10 years back, these machines where a lot cheaper, to buy something like a Studer A820 these days I could probably not afford it
@@Seblington I am very happy to see your reply. Noted how you collected them, and it is a magnificent job which you have done ! Thanks again!
And there’s me feeling guilty about having 4 guitars :-)
Treba mi uher rojal de luxe i sg 520 ili magnetofon glave za iste?
Selling any late models? (Circa 1978 to maybe 1990). I'm interested in a good, working Teac, Philips, (N4506, N4520, N4522, and 7300 to name a few), or maybe a Pioneer like the 909.
Thanks,
Rich
Now create a single tape loop with all 400 :D
Hmm might be a little tricky :-P
Hey man, been a long time since I used YT to browse through other channels apart from music. It's good to see you keeping at it :) My atr-60-8 has been sitting around for a good while now. It's capstan stopped spinning and I have the documentation but not the test equipment to fix it. I still love the thing. I don't know why I recall a power supply issue though... it could be... but whatevs... I'll get it sorted some day I guess, for now it just looks pretty on the shelf :) I still need to sort out two of the channels amps too. I am still wondering how the hell did they blow the audio routing circuitry up in smoke...
Hello, cheers for the kind comments, hope you get it running soon.
The sound of music is profond it takes us to imaginary places
Wow
The song is very good. What do you call it? Can I have permission to use it in one of my videos? If so, who should I credit it to?
Many thanks, yes if you can give credit to VintageRecorders that would be great and you can use it.
You've have Museum quality recording artifacts. Any plans to display this amazing collection for Posterity?
I use to display them untill a supermarket decided to take over the unit we had, maybe in the future I will find other collectors of other electronics localy and try again
do you have any foster g16s or g24s? whats your opinion on them.
thanks!
Not a fan of anything with more than 2 channels, the Fostex multi tracks I think squash too many tracks on the tape, small and compact yes but at a price of sound quality, and if I remember right are they 2 head systems not 3 ? Looks wise they look great :-)
жалко что все эти магнитофоны пылятся в гараже а не радуют сотни меломанов по всему миру своим прекрасным звуком.
Not at all, many of my machines do find new homes around the world.
Do you have any of joe meeks tape recorders from 304 Holloway Road?
No, not "the" machines but have the models he would have used
Someday, we will see your collection on "Strange Inheritances"! I'm not sure whether your heirs will be happy or overwhelmed...maybe both.
Yea, not sure myself LOL but I think when it comes to the time, a number of machines will end up in museums
Digital editing is great, I'd never go back to dice and splice. That being said, nothing beats magnetic tape for recording music! Long may your machines keep going strong...also some great background music here, too.
Thank you, I wrote it myself :-)
Impressive collection !
I seem to recognize that Akai GX400 D @ 2:26 ;-)
Hello, yea that's your one, I did have two but the other sold some time ago, really nice machine :-)
WOW 😍
Hello, how about Aiwa tp series 1009, 1010, 1011?
Great!!
You have it good
Good lord that's impressive! Any chance you may know of a good source for Nagra parts? I need a few parts for my Nagra III.
Wow! That's some collection, amazing. Do you have any of the later leevers rich machines? Or ever worked on a leevers rich 1000ST? Do you service machines for a living? Great video.
I am interested to purchase a spool taperecorder
Where is your Sony TC-765 ? Love your recorders man!
Since this video was made another rack has been installed and there is a TC-765 next to a TC-766, TC-850 and the TC-880, just haven't got around to making a new video yet.
wow this is an amazing collection where do you find all of them and you must be a billionaire to be able to afford all of these take decks . they are amazing and really beautiful and I love that they each have a unique design all of their own thank you so much for sharing them and I look forward to seeing more in the future
Thanks :-) I'm no billionaire but have a passion for this sort of equipment, I have been collecting since I was 10 and probably had well over 2000 machines go though my hands.
I am looking to aquire an ampex 7 inch 2000 series reel to reel and a teac 3000 series auto reverse reel to reel what would be a good price if the belts are bad and it has stiff parts that wont move . I feel I should as someone that knows a great deal like you do and thank you so much for all the great videos and have a great week
tough213 Yes unique and each has a personality. I have worked on all but the British ones and Studers. Started on Teac A-1200.
Богатство!
What an impressive collection of treasures! I know the work this takes, and i am glad you wife put up with it. I started collecting videos gear in 1980 and in 1985 i found my treasures all outside my house... i had to start BroadcaStsore.com to be able to justify keeping my collection, but then ... customers bought my (toys) treasures. To this day i still often feel that way after a sale. Congratulation. Lou
Thank you :-) My misses can't complain, its my house LOL but yea, was real lucky as the right house came up at the right time with this lovely workshop.
It’s just so wrong for one person to own that money, and with others out here like me who can’t even afford one of them😢
Open a museum. Get some other collector's to chime in and you could have the world's largest recorder collection. I'd pay to just look at them.
Where's the Tascam Series 70?
Sold the ones I had some time ago, think they where multi track machines and I try not collecting them
Awww I only have 30 machines.
nice :-) i have only three :-)
oh gosh! It,s great!
Heaven...
So Dank
hi stuart where l can buy new model tape reocorder such as akai 747 deck thanks .
Its very rare any new old stock comes up for sale, they are no longer made.
Hi where lcan find this machen lam from iraq thanks .
Try yard sales, thrift shops, Ebay UK Ebay PH Ebay HK and Ebay MY.
Ahhh !! So you must be the guy who always outbids everyone on ebay huh ??
Wow !! Very nice collection. I thought I had too much having 20 or so.
The problem with collecting these is that they take up too space so you will definitely need the room.
I not only collect reel to reels. I also have vintage amps, receivers, Turntables, cassette decks and speakers..
So you see my dilemma
Tony Montana I haven’t been buying much off eBay for a while, so not me ;) many thanks for your comments, this is an old video, now I am past the 500 mark, I am however slimming down
@@Seblington Haha very nice !
I love what you're doing actually. Preserving these machines is very important because once they're gone, they're gone.
They certainly don't make them this good anymore, and I am a huge advocate for Analogue sound.
Well done to you Sir !
@@tonymontana897 Many thanks, at some point I suspect many of my machines will end up in a bigger museum collection.
O:40 what its this?
Is that a PR 99 MkII, dead centre of shot at 1:49 ... ?
Yep, and a MK III to its left
sync them all together and record one epic fart
Put in youtube old reel to reels a poetic study part one... Thanks
Master R To R.
Oh my god it's a pice of paradaise
When did you start collecting?
+Norwegian tape recorders Tandberg & RN &Proton I started at 10 but it didn't really start till I was about 18
why would you want so many tape machines?
Why not? it's like collecting stamps or coins but a lot bigger :-) in fact I am close to 500 machines now.
well, because you only really need one or two, maybe three at most. you sell them tho right? that could be a reason,
This is a collection and not something I do to use on a day to day basis, so having 1-2 doesn’t really apply, though I do sell some machines I only sell ones I have more than one of which usually makes way to pay for more machines.
В квартиру б столько!
when did you start collection thanks .
Started when I was 10 bt really started when I was 18, i only have about 3-5 before that,
Hi are you sell some of them thank.
Your are from which country and city please .
i own 3 decks the akai 215 the sony tc 230 and a philips 4500 al in working condition
How about a Edison voicewriter
Beautiful machines, but they should be put into use instead of collecting dust.
It hurts to watch those excellent Studers etc just standing there, doing nothing.
Where. How. Can. I. Get. A. Reel to. Reel. 3heads. To play. r
I tend to get most of mine of auction sites and local sales
3:17 grabador Dash
I have 4 Machine
a sony digital tape recorder ? who need that? you can record digital on hard disk.
一つ欲しいですね。
Жалко что большинство этих аппаратов будет стоять на полках и не будут радовать своим звуком людей
Well, that’s not really true. My collection has evolved over the past 30 years, and many machines have come and gone, either sold, swapped or given away to others, to this day, I have never seen any of my previous machines shown to others to enjoy, they simply go into private ownership never to be seen again. so though people do enjoy my machines I move on, these videos offer entertainment to those who may never have seen the likes.
