I took more positives than negatives out of the game. It was against a genuine top 6 side and I absolutely did NOT expect to win. The manager had a day or 2 with the squad and our style of play was much more different that I expected. It's been years since we've pressed like that and took risks. Villa's defense was rock solid. We would have scored against some teams in the league that are not as resolute. That being said, it is clear we are short on quality and need to act in the transfer window. I'm glad Moyes called that out after the match very clearly too. If we play like that, combined with some additions to the squad, we will win 4-6 games and be safe.
Thelwell recruitment been poor. Do not renew his contract. Why we haven't signed a pacy right winger and creative midfielder which we have needed for many years is unbelievable. People at Everton need to be accountable, if underperforming get shut, COYB UTFT
The annoying thing is, surely Moyes knew what team Dyche had been playing, and that they weren’t getting results… so why he never mixed it up on the 1st game actually worries me… should have gone with a 3 at the back, starting O’Brien, Patterson and Harrison Armstrong as he can find a pass to the striker which he proved against Peterborough, that team would have actually got the crowd going a bit , even if we’d have still gotten beaten.
I'm a United fan, and you sound like me. I said that about Amorims first few starting line-ups. There is never gonna be miracles, but given time with the Everton players, Moyes will get them going.
The thing is he had 2 days. He probably went safe. Picked the team that had some defensive ability and just conveyed to them his desire to see them actually attack. He can see Harrison and Doucoure lack in those areas now. If he's still picking that team 3-4 games in then I might worry
DCL OUT ... He could have made a difference... zero goals in 16 games and still on the team, why not try given BETO to full 90 minutes for next 4/5 games. Moyes got to do some changes here. Can't stick with this terrible DCL on starting lineup.
Any other striker from any other team in the league takes the chances Dom missed and scores. I'd also question whether the injuries are an overflow from Dyche's 'gaffer days'.
As soon as people saw the team I think a lot of people's enthusiasm died, Why play C Lewin? when Beto took his goal well from a nice pass from Armstrong (C L would have missed) should have been 5-3-2 Paterson RB, no Harrison (had his chances) Paterson RB no Dacoure, Nydia supporting Beto, Mangala, Gueye and Harrison in middle. Lots hope Moyes has learnt a few lessons form that performance. Also Everton should have had a penalty.
The difference between us and the other relegation strugglers (with the exception of Southampton) is they play as a team, and they can score. I really like McNeil, but it is sad that we say that we are missing him so much. Let's be honest he wasn't that great before his latest injury. Last night Villa were by far the better team. DCL has lost total confidence, time for Beto to start.
The reality is we wont go down this season because the 3 down there are absolutely horrendous losing virtually every week. We'll probably only score about 27 goals which is abominably bad and probably only get about 32 points, madly that probably will keep you up. But this is about planning NOW. We cant celebrate staying up again in May and then send all the people home for a nice long holiday thinking they've all done their jobs well.
One thing we dont often think of as fans is while the last few years have been hard and demoralising for us, imagine what its been like for the players. We can at least get a brief escape from the madness inbetween games, they're in the middle of it every day during the season and worse than that they're careers are going to shite. I know they're partly responsible, but the tactics over the last few years have been atrocious. No one wants to become a footballer to play dyche ball. Hopefully, Moyes will be able to build back the players' love of the game and with it their confidence.
Guys, going to Go out on a limb here and touch on something radical which I know has loosely been spoken about….. Michael Keen up front in a twin striking role ….If all fails you could use him in a utility manner & always drop him back creating an extra defender ( to close a game out ? )
We need to cut our losses on players like Doucoure DCL Harrison and stop praying they come good. I get Harrison was better on the left but playing on the right doesn’t explain why he can’t run anymore. I doubt he could even get past someone like Tarky tbh, Pickford could probably match him for pace never mind opposition RB’s in the PL.
DM now knows the enormity of the task. We could say we should have had a penalty and that DCL should have scored but overall, we didn't do enough. We lack pace, we can't score goals and quite simply, we need some players in asap.
Yeh McNeil has got a great left foot but he's not really got a position too slow to be a winger and because he's so one footed he's not a 10 even though I thought that might have been is position I think he's got to play either wing back with 3at the back of we play 3across the middle with him on the left
What gets me is every player we sign disappears into the abyss. All either have 12 month injuries, I mean exactly, what the hell has happened to Chermiti? Another one who we are basically having to rule out for a season, he's not going to be anywhere near ready this season now. James Garner another one, what the f*k? Broja is no real surprise because we all knew he was constantly injury prone. Lindstrom can't get regular football being kept out by the most basic of players like Doucoure, Mangala, Harrison We need to start making signing that make a difference. We are still putting our faith into a striker that he knows and we knows he won't be here in May for Christ sake
Everton kill player's..Harrison is a perfect example, fit as fuk at Leeds under Bielsa, a goal threat.. Comes here and couldn't beat pancake mix. Ndiaye is another, looks talented but we are slowly training any ability up his arse. Give Moyes his due, when he signed players that were going through poor times, they generally came here and improved under him, question is now, can he replicate even some of that in 2025?
I think removing all the old players would help and replace with young hungry players now some would be need to be brought in for me patto in young out Garner in (when fit )Gueye out Doucoure out Ndaiye would play there then we need someone but that would make a difference I'd go three at the back I think OBrien is to good to be on the bench and I think it would help
Tough times for Everton fans & it's hard to keep up the faith, but a few positive points that weren't there not so long ago are new owners, new manager & not far away a move to a brand new fantastic ground, hopefully one step at a time improvements can come moving forward & your present position isn't where you belong 100%. Aston Villa were in a similar situation not that long ago, but it was turned around for the better, it's no quick fix,but not impossible, your forward players need extra shooting practice & nowadays it's hard to find decent strikers who many clubs are searching for, maybe a striker on loan from abroad or the lower leagues might be worth a shot? Villa have a young striker who has been banging goals in for fun at Stockport for the last 18 months called Louie Barry who many top clubs in the championship want & also Celtic which might be better than the ones you have firing blanks every game & Villa want to loan out rather than sell & his wages won't be much.best wishes from a Villa fan.....UTFV!!!!
Until we actually go with 2 STRIKERS, we will struggle. This team needs to change to 442. 451 has always been our issue. A sole forward is too easy for the opposition defence to deal with and also there's no one to play off of.
We don’t have any players to give it to those strikers, and when on the odd occasion we do get the ball in, the player who’s cribbing he has no song, contrives to miss sitters
@@Ken.Sprayer I personally think we have good players (albeit could do with some better quality). Sometimes it only takes a change of formation to get things bouncing again. There's not much to lose in trying 442 as we've used 541 for years and look at the stats from doing that.
@@flashgordon3350 we don’t have the players for that format. Thelwell is buying the same players over and over. All have no place. Now the manager has seen the mess 1st hand he must make changes for Sunday, right back, right wing and change Curly Larry and Mo in midfield, I know we need players in but this garbage are picking themselves
I don’t trust Thelwell fellas, he went to the shops to buy a porterhouse steak and returned with a tin of spam and managed to lose the key to the tin en route home
I thought we were loads better when we went to a back 3 maybe that will be the formation for the next match, we'll see but I agree we desperately need 2 or 3 new players pronto!
I don't know if you guys want a view from a villa fan but for what it is worth, here goes. Firstly, the premier needs Everton, with the right backing they can break the bloody boring top six media frenzy. However, speaking as a fan who has experienced a similar nightmare, I generally think that your players just aren't good enough. @ConnorWilkins Precisely mate.
They mentioned why they thought he played the same team because then it becomes a question of “is it the tactics, the new players, or a good spell?”
I expect Patterson, Lindstrom and Harrison Armstrong to start Sunday in place of Young, Harrison and Doucoure. Ndiye cenral
The final word is DCL is 💩
Should have dropped young Docoure don't understand Harrison being brought in but now Moyes eyes well and truly opened
We should be giving a serious look at Hamza Igamane Rangers centre forward and Morgan Wittaker at Plymouth.
Imagine how many pens Tarky would give away if every hold or slight push in the box was given
Should’ve started Armstrong and Beto after their link up v PBoro
Harrison is awful
He’s not even that good
