Honestly, I feel like Ruyi was Hailan’s true love (not necessarily in a gay way though)
@@poppinmms8980 I think it can be interpreted in a gay way too lmao. There's a point in the show where Hailan's maid says ever since she started paying attention to her makeup, she looks prettier and the Emperor pays more attention to her. But Hailan says she doesn't recognise who she looks like anymore and that all the makeup Emperor gifts to her is not to her taste, and the show explicitly contrasts the Emperor and Hailan's romantic relationship against Hailan and Ruyi's relationship, where early on Hailan tears up and is really grateful to Ruyi for being the only person who remembers Hailan's likes and dislikes (food-wise, etc). Plus the way Hailan keeps talking about how she gave birth to Yongqi "for Ruyi and Hailan". It was never going to be a relationship because Ruyi was devoted to the dumbass emperor, (also it's China lmao) but I think Hailan's feelings for Ruyi, the lengths she went to for her, and the subtleties in the script could be interpreted as romantic too.
Ummm you're forgetting Ruyi and Rongpei. Rongpei followed her in death. I believe Ruyi and Hai had a bond but Rongpei was her soulmate.
Seeing the strong friendship between Ruyi and Hailan makes me so happy... and sad. The other concubines could of had this relationship with Ruyi also, like true sisters. But politics and aspirations fueled them towards evil.

Wow the show itself wasn't afraid of what pregnant women deal with. The stretch marks remind me of a story about a guy who wouldn't have sex with his girlfriend because of the same with Hailan. She had stretch marks after having their baby.
