My first rookie iRacing oval race - I piss off lots of people but learn a lot in the process, oops.

- This is video footage from my first online oval race in iRacing as a rookie class with other drivers. This was a trial by fire and didn't make any friends today. I caused wrecks, had penalties, got confused, you name it. Stock car racing is a different beast entirely from regular track racing and I've got a long ways to go to be good at it. On a plus note I did finish the race so that has to count for something right? Please leave your comments and like, favorite and subscribe if you want to see more of these types of videos and watch me climb in rank (hopefully). Also come join me on Facebook via the link on my main channel page and we can talk over there. Thanks again for watching!

iRacing.com is an online, subscription-based racing simulation service for Microsoft Windows created by iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations. In addition to accurately modeled vehicles and tracks, iRacing provides servers on which to race and practice and a sanctioning body to organize and oversee competition within the service.
From the start, iRacing has been marketed as both an entertainment service and a training tool for real life racers.[1] They have established numerous partnerships with real-world racing organizations and series, including NASCAR, GRAND-AM, IndyCar, V8 Supercars, the SCCA, the Skip Barber Racing School, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, the Star Mazda Championship and Williams F1 among others.[2][3]
The service was launched to the public on August 26, 2008. There were over 35,000 active members as of July 2012.[4] This show is an independent production of Jerry Berg (aka Barnacules). This is why iRacing encourage you to READ THE RULE BOOKS!!
This is funny because the game tells him exactly what he needs to do but it's like he can't read.
The only words he knows are Mountain Dew and Doritos
+MountKeverest Diet coke*
+MountKeverest Lmfao!
+MountKeverest youre username sounds like kanye wests next kids name :P
+Spider Super (Oliumen) Yeah, this guy is a fucking moron.. Speed limit 45, gets up to 55. Ohh man, so many rules.. IT FUCKING TELLS YOU!
You really should not be going into public races until you can drive properly. This is not to be mean its just fair to the other racers.
"There is a lot more to it than what you see on ESPN".... or the screen in front of you telling you exactly what to do..
I lost it at "What the fuck 13!"
+Jack Kurkjian That guy absolutely cracked me up :D
+Cool man That was so funny. He was just ramming into his back without hesitation *whatever*.
Ken, it's awesome to know that there is someone like you out there that is good at everything in life and never makes mistakes. Makes me sleep better at night knowing that someone like you is trolling RUclips keeping all the iRacing players in check.
All those stupid gadgets for no fucking reason haha
They aren't stupid the driver is
I love how he thinks he needs to race past the checkered flag because he was a lap down....lmao
Robert Stuczynski
True but its also polite to do a cool down lap enter pits then exit,
Everyone is so hyped on it being a sim then at the flag it's full on stop and exit in the middle of the track
So many gauges and addons, but cant pay attention to the road or whats going on in front of you...
Yeah, so many gadgets but don't know how to race...might wanna learn the rules first. It literally states pit road limit in the middle of the screen with his own speed right underneath it. Yet he continuously speeded on pit road
Somehow this was actually hilarious, but dude, practice and watching some other oval races before you started really would've helped. Mistakenly missing the chequered flag and smashing into that guy was priceless.
Jesus man it's like you're blind. The game keeps telling you not to speed in the pits, like right in front of you, and you keep doing it.
+Theguyunderyourbed its painful to watch isnt it?
+Frederrik Rasmussen Yes
awful man :(
It's his first race. I take it you would never speed in the pits and I'd ask why that is? The likely answer is you've done the exact same thing, got dealt a harsh black flag punishment, and put extra effort into not speeding from there on out. It's how we learn.
only not 3 times in 10 minutes
Everything about this video was wrong. You say you were new to oval, but it looks like you were new to racing. You screwed up the stop and go, you weren't using F3 (seriously... this is iRacing blasphemy), and in general, you just weren't paying attention.
Also, did you seriously just jump in to a race without practice? If so, that's hugely disrespectful to everyone unfortunate enough to end up on the track with you.
But somehow, it was pretty entertaining :)
Right on
Lets just be grateful he had some control on his car lol
I've been watching several races an I'm very interested in doing this.
But I dont know anyone personally that Iraces and to be competitive what is the normal set coast to get set up. Thanks
Terry Roberson Yo Tezza did you every try it out?
Wow. Did you know what the checkered flag means?
The mistakes you made had nothing to do with the fact it was oval racing.
Rookie or not, basic racing principles apply.
holds that bitch wide open after the checkers lol
exactly
I don't think this guy ever watched a race in his life..
8 years later, this is still one of the most entertaining iracing videos on RUclips
Thank you, I really miss playing. Gotta keep working towards building that new sim!
Barnacules Nerdgasm why are you getting a sim when you dont even know how to race? You literally destroyed everyone’s race 😪
@@rubenhage3273 honestly he did pretty damned good. He couldn't really see the car bout stopped on the bottom line till that car jumped up high. He could have went up high but he didn't really have much time to react to anything. The 11 behind him didn't check up for the wreck so that one wasn't his fault either. He was trying to turn down the track and out of everyone's way. He managed to avoid a wreck right next to him. Overall, just work on feeling the car and he's got it
That was hilarious LOL.
-No drivers were harmed in the making of this video.-
I give you an applause! No one puts a first time video from Iracing. It is tough as hell and I remember being a rookie. But it is so addicting and so much fun!
Oh my god xD when he smashed into that dude LOL I'M FUCKING DYING RIGHT NOW! xD That was beautiful.
Dude, I know, that shit was golden. The race was over, he was like, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY BITCH
omfg, IKR!! hahaha
but he still had a lap to go! hahahaha! it was the other guys fault!
No the race was over. The checkered flag was waved. That's the end of the race.
I just hate how pissed off people get all the time. Especially in the rookie class. It's racing, and its the rookie class, there's going to be wrecks. Then you have the people that get mad when they get caught in a wreck because they decided it would be fine to just floor it all the way into a cloud of smoke as if it wasn't even there.
Warndog agree, i just accept it as a part of the game. Noobs don't know to take it slow and relax in the beginning to learn how to drive.
Warndog It worked in Days of thunder...
Warndog I get it if people were geting pissed off if this was A to C license race with people making mistakes like that. But This being rookie or week 13 then people just have to expect crashes.
+Warndog Dude people pay money for this shit. It's not a one time buy and you can get canned by iRacing, even if you've thrown 2000 bucks into the game. That's why people get mad. That and people are trying to get out of rookie class. people hitting you makes it harder and a longer process to move up to class D. If someone wrecks in front of you and you hit them...you both get points against you. If you hate how people get mad and obviously you can't understand why...you're the sort of person that the rookie class weeds out. If you're going to cause accidents or you're all over the place like barnacules...you need to stay the fuck off the track. People are paying to race...not to get hit by people who have no idea what they're doing.
Nobody in the rookie class has thrown 2000 bucks into the game not even remotely. Everybody knows the crap that goes down in rookie class and it is to be expected because guess what, the rookie drivers suck and can barely hold a line. This is why you do not race to win in rookie class. You race to be as clean as you can and avoid as many of the wrecks as possible. Drive like that and you'll have no issue getting out of that rookie class, You can get your Class D very quickly.
You know, it takes balls to throw a "first time out" on a vid. After watchin all the "experienced" driver vids, which I've enjoyed to, I learned more from this guy's mistakes than any other oval racing vid.
Here you learn what not to do :P
this is two years old so it's kinda pointless now but how can you ignore both text chat and voice chat of someone telling you to stay low on pit exit?
*Floors it in pits twice, when it says it right in the middle of the screen that hes speeding* then he says "Oval racing is officially hard.." Ok then... then says its harder then it looks, no, just dont smash the gas pedal threw the floor in the pits...
As well as oval racing, it seems to be reading and paying attention that he finds hard.
As a previous iRacing subscriber I was interested (after seeing a few of your other videos) in seeing how you race. I was literally laughing out load as you smashed into those cars, were speeding in the pits and were moving all over the track. Awesome video!
LOL Man you had me laughing in a Good way! after you hit the car!! your like "OH SHIT!! Sorry" LOL u made my day
I don't understand why you were speeding so much. It literally tells you the sped limit in the middle of your screen. -,-
lol you just need to learn how to think and drive at the same time.
It's wild how much different the game was 10 years ago - this was an awesome timewarp, thanks for the upload!
dude you decide to pay a monthly fee for a proper hardcore sim service, go out and buy all this gear, and you know this little about racing?
it's his money he can do whatever the fuck he wants...
Relax he is a rookie. All the pros were as this guy is. Maybe some more informative but everyone was him once. He will learn in time. :v
That's what spoiled rich people do. Buy fancy cars, and not have a clue of how to drive them, and they just drive them in cities, and don't even go to a track. This guy couldn't get a car in real life though, he'd weight it down too much and it would constantly turn left slightly.
weterman4320 how is he spoiled? Because he worked as a programmer for 20 years? He worked his ass off for his money. Leave him alone.
grunt616 Look, he bought 3 screens, a gpu to support them, and doesn't even use them, seeing how he almost hits everyone beside him.
You're setup is awesome! I just added to my bucket list, to get a computer with a setup like that and download this game. All I have currently is a laptop and I'm sure that wouldn't even come close to doing this game justice! Nice race, man. We can't all start off knowing everything. You gotta start somewhere.
When I saw the way he came out of the pits in the warm up, I knew something bad was gonna happen LOL
Then the way he did the rolling lap. LOL God, it's crazy how smart people can sometimes be so stupid
It's hard to imagine that this is what Danica goes through every weekend.
The worst kind of thing to do, and completely unforgivable. Going to a race completely unprepared. There just is no excuse.. Races aren´t for learning the absolute basics! And get rid of the bloody Lap Timing, use Relative in the HUD during races.. (That you should know from "other side" allready)
I don't know why I can watch this for 20 minutes but I can. Love the iracing and everything else. Glad I subbed keep it up. :)
I know this is an old video but LOL. This is exactly how I imagine my first race will be on the oval.
you used a side camera to record your moves, and for the screen? how did you record only the center panel?
You started to do well once you got the hang of it.
Except for the fact that he didn't know when the race finished. He didn't slow down, got in a crash and blamed the other dude
I don't know of any software to get the gauges on a 4th monitor but you can use the race dash software on iOS to put the gauges on your iPad or iPhone while you race.
whats funnier than the video is looking at all the butthurt people in the comments xD
As a rookie to oval racing the only way to learn is to do and Ive seen pros make similar mistakes and go on to win races so I hope you keep at it, you are a blast to watch.
What a great setup, what a shity driver. did u hear about practice race in iR?
I laughed out loud haha, no hate love the video, but haha
Very good video. That last crash was your fault though. You had loads of time to brake in order to avoid the crash. Enjoyed watching it. Thanks for uploading
FOV is way off for you too!
Agreed, I don't play iRacing much anymore because people take it way too seriously, now I just take my real car to the track and have a much better experience :P
I'm glad this video is 3 years old and either A) you've long since given up on iRacing or B) you've improved 100-fold. Your spotter told you the race was over! You took the checkers. That guy slowed down because the race is over. The leader already took the checkers; you don't get another lap. When that checkered flag is on your screen, it's done. You cross the start-finish with that and you are finished. And the annoying part was you laughed after that as if it was a funny incident. Did you not think safety rating counts on ovals?
+Rob Edwards its just a game. damn
symodiezel if someone is just beng a dick then it's okay to be mad. but there are people who get so pissed off at rookies when they make a mistake and thats not okay
+TehAfroNinja100 seriously, this guy's comment made me feel like he killed somebody at the end of the race.
+symodiezel I haven't checked his other videos, but if anything he'll just make it more challenging for the others to get out of Rookie. :D
+MisterDoctorProfessor No it is not. It is a sim.
I use a Elgato Game Capture HD to capture the desktop of the center screen and various other cameras around the room to record other feeds then I synchronize them in video editing software, hope this helps you out!
I would love to see him run some Dirt Late models lol
I actually thought this video was really well done! I use the iRacing simulator, and though you made a lot of rookie mistakes (the most noticeable one being speeding in the pit lane), I think you showed what to expect for a noob starting iRacing ovals. Great job getting used to the car pretty quickly, and dodging that collision was pure luck! As for the collision at the end, crap happens. I thumbed up the video, and hope you've had a chance to race ovals more since! See you on the track.
In warmup u slam the wall and u go "touched the wall" like bish where
I really need to configure all the controls on my little digital dashboard so I can quickly do these operations before the race starts and during pits.
He's making a left turn!
Just watched a few of your videos and subscribed. Videos are entertaining and you seem to be a genuinely cool dude Id hang with.
The accident on the first lap was not your fault. I don't know why that guy was crawling on the inside. The rest was your fault haha. You were done the race too! You didn't have 1 more lap :)
It was not intentional but it did happen. I love how tons of trolls leave comments and down vote the video saying I don't belong on iRacing for making a mistake, like they are somehow perfect. Honestly if they were as good as they see themselves they would be driving real cars and not playing this game treating it like it was real life :)
I love all of your videos and I LOVE your setup!! You are a very lucky man to have all of it. I know you worked for Microsoft for a long time and you worked hard to get the things you have.. I just can't understand why you would spend sooo much money on all this SIM gear and have so much eye candy and not take the time to learn basic racing practice.. I'm not trying to rag on you or anything, I'm just trying to understand. Take some time out and really learn how to race and control your car and your experience will be so much more enjoyable!! I hope your son is doing good as well and you get the stuff with your family sorted out. I'm praying for guys all the time! Goodluck and happy racing!! :)
members.iracing.com/membersite/member/DrivingSchool.do
This is all fantastic advise. The big problem with the practice sessions is that nobody else is on the track and I can drive perfectly when that is the case. It's when the other cars driven by human beings show that a whole new set of skills and tactics are needed. But I will certainly start by taking your advise :)
This is painful.
Are you 3 screens 46" and do you sit 42 inches away from them?
Once the session is checkered racing is finished, so it was totally your fault for not slowing down, if he protested you for that you probably would have gotten suspended.
I'll check it out, but if I can figure out the connection issues with iHud I think it's brilliant and would save me some money.
I racing is not easy, especially if you're used to the mainstream racing video games. It's a different world and I'm sure some of those guys spewing hate on you were as bad or worse when they started out.
I sure do! I need to write all this feedback down for my next session.
many of the rules are general racing rules...don't speed in pits...common sense.
You should probably play Forza, it suits you better
I was really trying Dan, but while trying to focus on video taping for RUclips it made driving and noticing things very difficult. That might be hard for you to understand but try it sometime. I guess this is why you rarely see any iRacing videos with commentary.
Your letting of the clutch to early.
Fun
this is painful to watch
MajorStewie I Agree haha
Holy shit, random guy on the internet tells me to uninstall a game. I better listen! Actually better yet I think I'll go play some more iRacing, this got me motivated! Thanks.
you didnt even read the rules! shame on you!
FUCK THE RULES! AND THE POLICE!
It appears this guy struggles with reading, among many other common sense things... This is beyond just amateur driving, it's pure stupidity.
I used to use the iRacing service. It left nothing but a sour taste in my mouth. Kind of hard to get out of Rookie when you constantly get dinged safety rating because newbs don't know what fucking brakes are for and constantly punt you off the track.
I got out of rookie in two days, I just let the idiots pass me and wreck themselves, D class is where the real racing starts.
if you cant get out of rookie, you are the problem
No, the problem is fuckwits like you who can't read what someone wrote. Welcome to my ignore list
Read what you wrote and gave the correct response...
Me too Alan. Way too many fuckwits on there. I`m never going back!
Thanks, I enjoy comments like this. There are enough trolls on RUclips, I do like how they light-up like a neon sign these days.
this is not nascar and do u know what the inside line is!?!?!?
It's the stock car I believe? The NASCAR is a B class or something? I've forgotten.
+ags911 NASCAR is Class B 4.0
Thanks for the comment! Really informative.
This dude is worst ever..
+nokkapokka Lets see you do better mate
+RAREAIR I mean cmon a 6 year old could do better then him
+RAREAIR I just started iRacing and I've NEVER come in last
What people don't realize about iRacing is how much attention it requires you to maintain especially until you get used to the interface, cars, and rules. You could play dozens of racing sims, drive like a boss in real life, and be completely comfortable driving at speed, yet hop into iRacing and be lost because it's different than everything else. I remember my first few races not even being able to glance down to try to find my fuel gauge because the road required constant attention. Let alone reading the in game messages popping up outside of your peripheral vision. It's like trying to balance on a tight rope while solving algebra. It gets easier, but you'd never say it was easy.
Literally 15 seconds into the race and you wreak 2 cars and damage your own. Then you laugh about it... If you don't know what you're doing then you shouldn't be on the track with others who do.
This reminds me of when i first started iracing. After 3 months i am up racing with the big guns and it is a lot of fun. But takes a lot of skill and practice. Nice vid man
just leave iracing, plz
Hahahahahah ... "woooowwww Shit" ... first crash was awesome. I subbed man .. your videos are great and the cave ... it rocks.
cheers
who would want to race in a circle.. i am sorry but nascar is the most boring Motorsport racing ever, but that is my opinion. i mean i like f1 more than nascar and i dont even like non-production vehicles.
I respect your opinion, but I find NASCAR better than any other Motorsport...and they don't drive in circles; they're ovals. Also, they race at other road circuits around America, Mexico, and Canada, and that's just the American series.
Proton1 no,in an oval race it's more about car speed, in an f1 race it's about driver skill
paulusgaming lol..... Not been watching F1 the last couple years huh?
Cathexis i have not missed a week end since the 2005 belgian grand prix
Cathexis ant tbh, racing in circles doesn't require any skill
i think u did pretty damn good man, being as this is your first time an everything u did really well
people take this game so seriously
symodiezel too deep man
.. Probably because it's considered an esport lol? People race on iRacing for money and there are leagues..
People are salty cause it's not a game- it's a simulator that costs a lot of money to maintain a subscription with, so there is an expected level of competence on the track.
you get mad in this kind of situations because it makes your rating goes down 20 points or more per race which means you will be harder to upgrade your license yesterday a guy crash on me because he did not hold his line and my rating goes down as fuck, you are paying a monthly fee not like project cars, forza or Gt which you pay for it once and you get the full game the rest of your life, as a fact: the first crash i had in the rookie league i prefered to practice and get faster instead of make more mistakes and crashes, now im getting experience into how to overtake and avoid accidents, by the way this game made me avoid accidents in real life too
iRacing rookie series in a nutshell. I remember my rookie season, I learned very quickly the dos and don'ts and quickly turned from being the hazard to avoiding the hazards. XD Now I'm still not that great at racing and am pretty slow compare to the better guys, but I manage to drive safe enough to make it to a 'B' class oval license.
And a tip (I know this video was posted two years ago and you probably figured it out), The lap with the white flag was the last lap, the checkered flag meant the race was over. That is why everybody was slowing down. You didn't have another lap.
Could not have said it better myself.
This video is actually a very good tutorial on what NOT to do. This guy didn't have any malicious intent. It's just the way rookie class goes. I laugh every time when people get pissed like they should expect something different. It is the rookie class for a reason..
chris krause When I was a rookie I spun around up into the wall in turns 1 and 2 at USA International Speedway. It was the second to last lap and I tunnel visioned on staying on the lead lap and finishing. Well, when you have tunnel vision, you don't pay attention to anything else. I started back up when the leader was telling me to reset. I wasn't paying attention and went down the track and BAM. He T-Boned me. Entirely my fault and he was pissed at me for races to come. Lets just say I learned that lesson and I haven't done that since. XD
He did have another lap
hockey161616 no...he didn't.
Please do, I encourage everyone to share my videos. If I was worried about people laughing at my misfortune or having a laugh at my expense I never would have opened a RUclips channel :)
nascar is so fucking boring ...
Keep at it man, dont worry about pissing people off, they will get over it.
I just signed back up for iRacing because so many of my subs have been requesting more! I'll be back out on the track tonight!
Haha! So many angry people. Great video man. I don't know what's funnier, the people getting pissed off in the race or the people that are commenting. The dude at the end shouldn't have come up the track like that in your way. When you finish a race, you go to the bottom of the track. That dude deserved to get hit lol
Have you done any other Oval races yet? My first one was pretty bad too (2011) and quit after that, started playing a few weeks ago just practicing and managed to race my "first" clean starting at 10th and finishing at the 5th position!
I cringe every time I watch this, but it's a good reminder to keep trying to improve! New dedicated sim coming in the next 2 months in my maker space.
Loving this. Just subbed to you yesterday. You're really making me want to cough up the cash to have the same racing setup you have.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put all those time indexes in there! I'll add it to the description.
Why did there safety rating go down? Oh because they didn't avoid me or drive safe, otherwise iRacing would not put the penalty on both parties right?
I had a blast :D And I'll be racing again tonight, all the haters made me want to get back behind the wheel again :P
Yeah a lot of people take this game way to seriously :D It's really funny and makes me want to make and post way more videos when I read the comments, they are hilarious. It's obvious that they actually think they are in reality when they are playing the game and they really in there minds think they are true stock car drivers. I bet they watch Days of Thunder and ignore the story and just talk about all the things Cole Trickle did wrong :)
definitely looks like a big learning curve to get good at. I would of given up the first pit stop! not my type of game but entertaining to watch, liked and subbed :)
Good advise, yeah there are a lot of trolls in iRacing, I get the impression that most of them treat it likes it's a job and they are actually sponsored and need to bring home the wins. I treat it like a game that is fun to play and semi-realistic and enjoy playing it. They should fork the iRacing population in to those two groups so they can both be happy :)
This is excactly why I like iRacing. The serious racing (on ovals) on higher license levels can be so thrilling :P
And a whole new bread of counter trolling was born ;)
I like how you take it with a grain of salt. Good honest video man.
Don't worry, they don't get it me. They actually crack me and make me want to create more videos :P
Thanks for noticing!
