Can confirm that is a cat in the Bear/Cat manhole cover. It is from the anime 'March Comes in Like a Lion' which is about professional shogi players, hence the shogi pieces around it.

Oh wow you might be right. I thought it looked familiar. Though what I can recall it’s just a show character within the actual show. The anime is a great watch. Lots of passion and drama along with trials and tribulations.

I loved that anime! The character development in it was so on point. I remember the character was someone’s subconscious character.

So TOTALLY love this video on Japan's manhole covers. I've been traveling to Japan regularly for over 20 years and I always love to discover new manhole covers. It is incredible that most people walk over them countless times and never notice. It is just another aspect of Japanese culture that I find super cool and it blesses me that you noticed this as well. Great video as always!

Okay, the pencil rocket manhole is definitely my favorite since I'm kind of a space nerd. I'd be more than happy just walking down (or up) that hill with the different ones for Japan's rocket development and be super happy.
Copenhagen doesn't really have any cool ones but when I lived in Galway they had some really intricate Celtic designs on some in the city center!
This was a lot of fun, it's the kind of thing I like to wander around and do. Thanks again for taking us along!

Hokusai was born in Honjo, Katushika-gun(kori) which used to cover the southern half of current Sumida-ku. That is why Hokusai museum is located in Sumida-ku. I think the cofusion comes from the fact that Katsushika-gun was part of Shimofusa-no-kuni but most of which is crrently ocupies northern part of Chiba-prefecture. Actually Katsushika-gun used to spread over the area which includes part of today's Chiba, Tokyo, Ibaraki and Saitama's prefectural areas.

Hey, guys! I come from New Orleans, which also has a very proud manhole tradition, so I loved this video. I'm always happy when I see places inserting a bit of fun into otherwise boring infrastructure.
Also: that character at around 16:30 is King Nyaa, from the manga series "Sangatsu no Lion" about a (rather depressed) shogi prodigy.

I know how JAXA tests their rockets horizontally. It's quite interesting.
As it happens I do sometimes work for a private space company, X = awesome. If you know what I mean. I also work with NASA, ESA, and JAXA. Cool stuff.
No rocket going to space ever goes straight up. It wouldn't be fast enough or have enough fuel. Earth's gravity is intense. It takes a lot of delta v to get out of the atmosphere and to be able to stay in orbit.

$12 to eat something amazing is not a lot of money.
You don’t have to justify what you really just enjoy it!
For a man your height you eat like a bird. Started join your food experiment, venture out of your box. Much more interesting that way.
