awww thats so nice of u! i sometimes feel sorry for the janitors because they have no one to talk to so sometimes when they look friendly me and my friend would talk. Anyway good luck!
i decided to learn asl for my deaf aunt so we could get to know each other better. unfortunately she passed away last week but i’m still gonna learn for her, i know she would be proud of me :)
I work at Amazon, I have 3 deaf coworkers and once I pulled up with the “I’m learning sign” and “my name is B-E-T-O” y’all shoulda seen the smile on their faces it was heartwarming! I need to learn to sign “let’s go hit the stizzy in the restroom!”
My friend just found out she's going deaf.. I'm trying to learn sign language so her and I can talk. She already knows some though because her parents made her learn when she was younger.
You had the same thing in common as myself, I'm slowly losing my hearing and teaching myself, I learn to learn 5 words and stay on them for the week. Like in grade school spelling words..we wrote, use it in a sentence, had a spelling test...its how I been doing it..

That’s so wholesome 🥺🥺 I’m learning ASL bc I wanna communicate better with people at my school and I cosplay on Tiktok and I want to be able to use asl as well as closed captioning so hard of hearing and deaf people can still enjoy my videos ::)

I started using it as baby sign language with my son 7 years ago, and now we’re teaching it to my 12 month baby girl! We’re not deaf or anything but it’s always good to learn it. It comes in handy!
It helped my babies and I communicate when they weren’t speaking well yet! It breaks a lot of barriers for sure! And it’s fun to your kids as they get older that you have a “code” or “secret language” 💜
I was able to use it at the store with this deaf lady, she was so sweet I didn't know she was deaf and I went to ask her what the time was and she responded in ASl, "I'm deaf, sorry" luckily i was able to remember how to point at my wrist hoping that would help and thank you, bye. we were taught ASL in primary school but they stopped teaching it for some they stopped :(
I'm learning sign language for one of my new best friends. She is a really energetic funny person! And I can't wait to surprise her when she finally realizes I speak sign language.
There are 2 deaf kids in my grade and my friend who isn’t deaf sits with them and she said she can teach me some sign, and I can sit with her on Friday , but this video definitely made me more confident
0:32 - hello 0:51 - hey (getting attention) 1:02 - what's up 1:17 - my name is... 2:00 - nice to meet you 2:46, 3:04 - I am learning sign 3:52 - what's your name 4:21 - where are you from 5:05, 5:17 - how are you 5:53 - I'm from... 6:21 - I'm fine 6:48 - please 7:00 - thank you 7:16 - excuse me 7:54 - what's your favorite... 8:37 - what do you like to do? 9:15 - where do you work? 9:40 - what time is it? 10:05 - where is the bathroom? 10:33 - how do I sign...? 11:11 - what a sign means 12:05 - good bye 12:17 - see you later 12:38 - take care
Me: learning asl I‘m not deaf Nobody in my family is deaf...non of my friends are deaf No one in my school is deaf I don‘t know anyone who is deaf I‘m not living in America and don‘t speak the English language... And I still learn ASL 😂 I would love to meet someone who is deaf to talk to.
We just got a new kid at school and i have classes with him. He is deaf and i really wanna learn how to talk to him so thank you for making this video.
@@cristianadarau5774 you are not asking me but i am learning ASL for the same reason. It is going pretty good so far. I learned all the basics and now i am able to talk to him. He cried tears of joy. Best school day i have ever had.
Everyone in the comments: I wanna learn ASL Bc....*something super emotional and touching* Me: I watched a TV show and randomly thought it would be fun...
Thank you for this. All of the kids are in masks at school and my son just met one of the boys who is deaf. He can no longer read lips because all the kids are in masks. We ordered my son masks with a window, but he's using your videos to learn how to communicate with him better. I appreciate these easy to follow videos. They're great for an 8 year old because you go nice and slow and tell why each sign is the way it is. Thank you :)
I just met my first deaf person and I really like her. She’s good at lip reading and following conversations but I don’t want to make her do all the work to communicate. Thank you so much!!
I work as a security guard at a courthouse and we had a hard of hearing gentlemen come in the other day and I needed to scan his belt but he couldn't hear us, so I took off my mask (6ft away) so he could read my lips, but this encounter made me want to learn sign language, in just 1 day I learned the alphabet and how to spell my name. Every time I learn a new phrase it makes me so happy and I can't wait to be able to use it one day :) we should definitely be teaching this in schools, and i cant wait to teach my kids one day :)
Its 6 feet with a mask. If you are without one it should be 30 feet. Not trying to be an annoying asshole I just think its important that people know the basic safety regulations and of course its your choice to follow them or not.
So I recently watched a movie called “ A Silent Voice” and it was really touching and it has made me want to learn sign language and I really appreciate this video because it helps a lot. Thanks!
I'm learning this so I can communicate with a deaf and mute student in my class. Since no one knows sign language he is pretty lonely. So imma learn a few phrases and communicate with him :)
A lot of customers who are hard of hearing come through my line (I’m a cashier) and I’m learning ASL to communicate with them better. Thank you for this video!
Me too and also seeing videos of def people being mistreated in the retail industry. Like I never had a problem with them (I’m a cashier too) ugh people are so stupid..
i don’t have a certain person that i want to talk to i just want to be able to communicate to different kinds of people so i’m learning asl ! i truly believe that this should be taught in schools. thank you Victoria for teaching me some basics!
A student in my class just found out he's going deaf, and I'm realizing I should have learned this a long time ago. Thanks so much, this is super helpful!
They work well together. Practice it - when you watch a korean for beginners video - annyeonghaseyo (but sign hello) you can practice your ASL and remember korean better

I have a deaf best friend and I feel bad that I can’t sign to her, I can only text her or write her notes which makes me feel bad so I’m here to learn for her.
Awww, that's so sweet, I'm with ya. I also have a deaf best friend, she's energetic, and funny. This is the main reason I am watching this video right now. Good Luck with the sign language! I believe in you!!!
I'm learning ASL for a similar reason. I have anxiety and autism, and after panic attacks it's becoming more and more common for me to go completely nonverbal. I want to learn and have my friends learn so I can communicate with them. It's also just a good idea to learn it. I may eventually be friends with or know someone who is mute or deaf or even occasionally nonverbal like me, and I want to be able to communicate. It's lonely when you can't communicate with those around you.
Just a quick thing: The sign ‘thank you’ starts at the chin and then moves away. However, be careful you don’t start underneath the chin and flick outward. You will be telling the other person to f’ off. Just a thing to keep in mind. 😅
I'm a dental student and one of my new patients is deaf, so these videos are great especially with lip reading out of the question because of our PPE. Patient absolutely lit up when I first met them and signed "Nice to meet you" and "I'm learning sign language". Made my week.
In my elementary school there was a deaf girl, and like she is the reason I wanted to learn sign language (i learned Mexican sign language, and now i want to learn american sign language)
Thank you soo much for your help i have been trying to learn sign for my best friend who has been deaf at birth we started by writing notes and i have so far learned the sign alphabet and how to say good morning good night and good afternoon we have been best friends for two years now and its amazing to be able to have conversations with her in class and not get yelled at for talking the teacher just thinks im explaining class work/ translating it we have every class together and most teachers just write down instructions and give them to her but now i can tell her what we are doing for the day
We can’t learn sign language in my school, and I don’t have time or many ways to go to some place to learn, so your videos are really useful! I don’t have a deaf friend, but I really think that it can be useful in the future and it’s a good way to spend my free time, so thank you for teaching us! ^^
Hi Carla! We're happy to hear Victoria's videos are helping you learn ASL. Did you know you can take free, facetime ASL classes with her here? Check it out! bit.ly/2ZPGkSr we hope to see you in class!
Hi! I'm a student of ASL and I've been studying for a couple years now. I really love how you teach the correct sentence structure like SVO and Topic Comment. You don't feel the need to make it easier because it's a language like any other, you have to work at it. Thank you and keep it up!
Just recently found out that due to sound damage, I am losing my hearing. I'm going to need hearing aids soon. Knowing sign will give me some confidence in the years ahead. Looking forward to taking the lessons and even teaching my husband. Thank you, Victoria. I feel very comfortable that I can learn sign from you. You have a gift of teaching.
this is weird, but im doing this to talk to a staff at my school who is deaf (I'm pretty far along just seeing comments) And to talk to my teacher and friends because we want nobody to know what we're saying xD
I recently made a deaf friend who hate talking because of her voice and always wanted to talk to me in sign so her birthday is coming up in 3 months and I have decided for her gift will be me being able to talk to her in sign. I hope she is happy with her surprise!!
This is sooo helpful. I like that she explained what the actions are representing, like "learn" is picking up knowledge and putting it into your head! It really helps me remember it a lot better. I'm learning ASL just for fun so this is great! :)
I am learning sign to talk with a deaf cashier I met yesterday....he inspired me❤️.......also I am learning this to communicate in future with anyone and everyone in need
Just recently lost my hearing, after 30 years of hearing, waking up to no sound was a Heartbreakers. Started learning sign to teach my kids so we can still communicate.
one fall, a bunch of kids in my school's marching band learned a handful of signs (i still have no clue whether or not they were correct for what we were saying) and just signed the dumbest phrases to each other during classes and band rehearsals to make each other laugh. we'd just be sitting across classrooms signing things like "platypus beans" or "you are not my first boyfriend" for absolutely no reason. it drove our teachers nuts and i wish i had people to do that with in college.
I’m so glad a lot of people started taking interest in ASL recently Those who are Deaf and HoH are some of the coolest people you will ever meet and the least we can do is take that extra step to learn how to communicate with them
You never know when deafness will hit you even temporarily, even when its due to some sickness like Ramsey Hunt Shingles, as it did to me. I was deaf for 3 months ! It left me with tinnitus badly when sound came back. You really need to have some kind of communication on the go, and sign language is great to use. You'd be surprised how many know how to sign ! Its' also a universal language and works almost everywhere ! Like the word dog for example, is spoken as a different sound in many language and be all different, but in sign language dog is good for all of them ! Like perro, dog = same sign in sign language. Father ,mother, are different words in different languages, but is the same sign in sign language for all of them. So sign language is really a universal language. I think that's great !
@@katscratchfever3506 start with palm up with dominant hand in a fist with thumb up resting on the other hand and lift up with dominant hand to sign "help" :) (Kinda like a 👍 lifting from flat palm)
the sign for help is putting your non-dominant hand out flat with your palm up and your dominant hand on top with your thumb up then bring the sign toward you and do you need help is the same but put the sign away from you with your eyebrows furrowed, hope this helps!
as a disabled person, thank you. i'm not deaf, but any accommodation you can give to deaf, blind, or disabled people means more than you might realize. even if it seems small, it makes a huge difference for us, especially with doctors. so many medical workers know very little about us and they don't care to learn, so thank you.
I'm learning this bc of my fav customer so that i can surprise her when she comes back to the shop after this corona thing is over 🙄 plus yesterday I helped this deaf couple and i said thank you in sign language and they looked so happy and thanked me alot 😭 i really want to communicate with them stay blessed❤️❤️
I'm learning ASL because I am starting to lose my hearing. I've been putting it off for so long because it's hard to process that you will be disabled pretty soon but also good to know that I can still overcome the fear with communicating by ASL. Baby steps!
Giving a high five to everyone learning sign language so they can speak with the hearing impaired. This gives me faith that there is good in the world. My brother shared this YT with me because I mentioned I have a deaf coworker and would like to be able to converse with him in ASL.
Same. Very slowly, but ten years of harp playing (it goes right against your right ear because of how you sit) has messed up my hearing enough that I have to ask people to repeat things all the time. Plus I don't like to talk all that much because of a problem with my throat so sign language is just a good bet all around. I hope you don't have to rely on sign language for a long time though. Sounds are beautiful :)
I'm new to the field of special education at my local school district and I'm seeing a lot of hearing/non verbal children that don't have resources for learning ASL or learning simple sign. My goal is to implement a program someday so we can have those services for children that fall into this category and they may feel more freedom in expressing themselves. I took ASL 1 and 2 when I was in college, but I am still kicking myself that I didn't change my field of study to ASL. It's now 10 years later I had a recent desire to be an interpreter and I'm very rusty. And my confidence in my skills has diminished, but I'm working on that by learning more. This has been a nice intro back into ASL. :) Also, I highly recommend reading "Deaf Like Me." It's a true story about a family and the process they went through when they found out their daughter was born deaf. It's really lovely and gives you an intimate understanding of the deaf community and culture.
One time a said thank you for letting me pass the street in sign language they thought a blew a kiss so they blew a kiss back 😂😂😂 that’s one of my favorite memories
I’m here after watching the movie “A Silent Voice”! It’s such a beautiful film that I highly recommend!!!! It made me realize just how important sign is and that everyone should be taught a little bit in school! 🥰
8 decades later and I'm still wondering why more children are not taught at least a second language once in school - starting in Kindergarten! ALL children are capable of learning more than one thing at a time, for heaven's sake!!!
@@Marny5580 also wouldn't it be easier in kindergarten to teach them the alphabet too?!!! The kids would have a motion to go along and remember the letters. I don't understand why we wouldn't be taught this in school
I loved that it was slower since she explained the logic behind a lot of the signs, and explained to use the dominant hand which I haven't gotten from any other videos. It made everything a lot easier to remember.
Im learning sign language because of a group they put sign language in their dancing and inspired me to learn, appreciate, and be friends for those who use sign language
The word "help" is signed by placing your non dominant hand flat palm up. Your other hand makes a thumbs up shape and sits on top of your other hand right inside your up turned palm with your thumb pointing up. Together they move slightly forward. If you wanted to sign "can I" in front you could or you could sign "help you want?" Otherwise just signing help gets the message across.
me too. i've had a few deaf customers and i feel so bad that i can't communicate with them, i look really dumb and awkward. i just want to try to be more inclusive
I've known some things in sign for awhile, but I just recently started working at a store and there's a few deaf customers who visit often and I wanted to learn more. This is very helpful, thank you :D
i made a google docs and wrote down my practice words(words i learned from this video) im gonna practice the basics. i set it up like a little quiz where i go through the points and try and sign them all. it works pretty good. i also inserted a picture of the alphabet just in case
I love it!!! I am CODA but I am Brazilian. I know the Alphabet, is a start, and just 4 letters are different. Now I want to learn ASL to learn the SIGNS to teach my Mom and to be able to speak with Deaf Americans. Thank you so much!
Everybody have such wholesome reasons for learning asl.. 🥺 I just wanna know it in case I ever run into a deaf or mute person. And just for fun cuz I just feel like learning it 😝
I am learning the ASL to be able to speak with the deaf janitor of my school, wish me luck
awww thats so nice of u! i sometimes feel sorry for the janitors because they have no one to talk to so sometimes when they look friendly me and my friend would talk. Anyway good luck!
that's the sweetest thing I've seen all year! ❤😍
God bless. That's great ✨❤️
That's actually so sweet :'((
That so nice of you
I’m learning sign language bc I work in a restaurant and sometimes we have deaf people come in and I just wanna talk to them so they aren’t lonely 🥺
You deserve a raise and promotion
As someone who only knows very basic ASL and learned in gr6 I would suggest you learn how to do the alphabet and just basic phrases.
Awww that's nice! Imma wanna learn too cause why not
you're an angel
Good luck! UwU
i decided to learn asl for my deaf aunt so we could get to know each other better. unfortunately she passed away last week but i’m still gonna learn for her, i know she would be proud of me :)
My condolences about your aunt, but I think she would be very proud of you! Happy practicing.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I am a combat veteran with severe hearing loss. Now that we are required to wear masks in public I am essentially isolated when people speak to me as I cannot understand what they are saying. I am just starting to learn ASL as I have found many non deaf people can speak to me via signing. This is as real blessing for me. Thank you Victoria for helping me get started.
Be encouraged Barry! I wish this was taught in schools like every other language.
Thanks for your service!
I wish you luck on your journey. Thank you for your service.
I remember I was in a store once and I saw I guy who was also a veteran and he had a mask saying I'm not rude just deaf
I cannot wait til the day everyone understands that we all need see-through masks
Me rn: learn asl.
Me again: you aren’t deaf, you don’t know anyone who is deaf and there isn’t anyone in you school who is deaf.
Me anyway: learn asl rn.
Same, but like it might come in handy later
lol i a, learning so i can impress my fam🥴
That's me and i'm learning english asl even tho i don't speak english and don't have any friend who speaks english LMAO
It's good to have for the future. Good luck!

Absolutely!!!
Learning ASL for that one life saving moment in my life where I'll probably need it

I was able to use it at the store with this deaf lady, she was so sweet I didn't know she was deaf and I went to ask her what the time was and she responded in ASl, "I'm deaf, sorry" luckily i was able to remember how to point at my wrist hoping that would help and thank you, bye. we were taught ASL in primary school but they stopped teaching it for some they stopped :(
Nice, im trying to learn out of curiosity lol not too bad :)
My mind: learn sign language
Me: i am not deaf
My mind: just learn it
Its still good to know it
I felt that 😎💕
Same XD
Same, it's good to learn it still though. (:
Haha same
I am not learning this because I'm bored or in quarantine, I just want to help someone I see struggling. I love helping people :)
I am learning because of boredom but its also something I've always wanted to learn and just never got around to it
I just wanted to learn because if i ever ran into a deaf person I would be able to talk to them and because I think ASL would be fun to learn.
Everybody her has a great reason to learn sign language while I’m here doing this so I can “talk” in class
not all heroes wear cape!
I wonder how it would be "used" in class? 😂😂😂😂
I just want to confuse my friends ;u;

That's so sweet 🥺🥺💕💕
There are 2 deaf kids in my grade and my friend who isn’t deaf sits with them and she said she can teach me some sign, and I can sit with her on Friday , but this video definitely made me more confident

That’s great that you care for her not to do all the work!🥺
I work as a security guard at a courthouse and we had a hard of hearing gentlemen come in the other day and I needed to scan his belt but he couldn't hear us, so I took off my mask (6ft away) so he could read my lips, but this encounter made me want to learn sign language, in just 1 day I learned the alphabet and how to spell my name. Every time I learn a new phrase it makes me so happy and I can't wait to be able to use it one day :) we should definitely be teaching this in schools, and i cant wait to teach my kids one day :)
Its 6 feet with a mask. If you are without one it should be 30 feet. Not trying to be an annoying asshole I just think its important that people know the basic safety regulations and of course its your choice to follow them or not.
agreed!
So I recently watched a movie called “ A Silent Voice” and it was really touching and it has made me want to learn sign language and I really appreciate this video because it helps a lot. Thanks!
The ending of that was fckin brutal 😑
Pfft you too huh?
I’m guilty of that-
I feel that too
Ahhh, I love a silent voice!!
That was the reason I came here
I'm learning this so I can communicate with a deaf and mute student in my class. Since no one knows sign language he is pretty lonely. So imma learn a few phrases and communicate with him :)

I trying to learn ASL because I love communication. This language is the way to reach this wonderful people.
im learning ASL because i have an anxiety disorder and talking makes me panic and ASL comforts me
Same man.
I have an anxiety disorder also and was learning ASL for a different reason but now that you mention this I might try it also.

Have you watched "A Silent Voice" ? Its a very emotional anime movie featuring a deaf character using Japanese sign language
Just a quick thing:
The sign ‘thank you’ starts at the chin and then moves away. However, be careful you don’t start underneath the chin and flick outward. You will be telling the other person to f’ off. Just a thing to keep in mind. 😅
It's so stupid that that's the only sign language I've known most of my life
I know how to spell my name and flick people off, even though, I never used it
But the rest of your fingers should be up so youre only waving backwards
Ah, so that's why I got slapped.

I can’t be the only one learning so I can communicate with friends across the classroom silently right💀

one fall, a bunch of kids in my school's marching band learned a handful of signs (i still have no clue whether or not they were correct for what we were saying) and just signed the dumbest phrases to each other during classes and band rehearsals to make each other laugh. we'd just be sitting across classrooms signing things like "platypus beans" or "you are not my first boyfriend" for absolutely no reason. it drove our teachers nuts and i wish i had people to do that with in college.
tnx for the idia (sorry for bad englich)
me and my classmate thought the same!

Those who are Deaf and HoH are some of the coolest people you will ever meet and the least we can do is take that extra step to learn how to communicate with them
Wow. Sign language actually makes more sense than I thought 🤨
I find it really cool and hope I can learn it and use it when I meet a deaf person
" do you need help" or "help" would be helpful too
Looking for this!!
@@katscratchfever3506 start with palm up with dominant hand in a fist with thumb up resting on the other hand and lift up with dominant hand to sign "help" :)

Me too, since I was 4.

You can speed up the video if you want it faster
I loved that it was slower since she explained the logic behind a lot of the signs, and explained to use the dominant hand which I haven't gotten from any other videos. It made everything a lot easier to remember.

What about for jobs like "How can I help you?" My mom wants to learn sign language for work so I'm trying to help. ☺
Sign HELP YOU HOW in that order. You can find the signs for this in signing savy (website) hope it helps!
