  • A race vlog from the Ripon Round Ultramarathon 2022 hosted by Ripon Runners. 55km on the trails and roads around Ripon. I looked to improve on my position from last year (my first ultra), attempting to really push myself and crack the top ten.

Awesome. I ran this in 2018 and I intend to return in 2025. One of the best finishes to an ultra I have ever seen. Studley did distract me from my sore feet and quads.

Loved this one mate, laughed every time you just blasted through the CPs!! Looked and sounded strong all the way to the end, fantastic result 👏

Cheers pal. Yep, wasn't wasting any time at the checkpoints if I didn't have to!

Fantastic coverage, a stunning route and congratulations on your run, this vlog should be used as an example of the beauty of trail running, i have watched mass participation events and whilst they are great fun in a different way, trail running is freedom running, thank you best wishes from Somerset, and i need to revisit Yorkshire !!! 😊

What a beautiful scenery, all nice caught on camera, also like the choice of music, well done! That definitely makes me want to run such a course (currently coming back to marathon distance after a break of 15 years). Congratulations on your performance!

Thanks, it's a great little route made all the better by the weather. It's a nice little step up from marathon distance but without pushing too much. God's luck on your return to running 👍

Good video Daniel. It really was superb weather this year. I was in a relay team and I hope you didn't try and stay with our leg 1 runner, he did leg 1 at 6 mins per mile. I spotted him in your video at checkpoint 1. It makes me want to do the whole thing when you see it filmed like this but maybe not yet for me, if at all. Very well done on 5th place.

Haha no way I was trying to stay with a 6 min miler, were you team Cheer then, congrats on the win if so. It's a great route and a nice easing in to that distance 👍

@@DM_RUNNING Yes that was us. We are mostly from the same nearby village or one that used to live there. A lot of local talented runners around. They all took time back, I was the only one to lose time on leg 5, the rival team to us had a brilliant leg 5, he set the second fastest ever for the leg on Strava. We were really pleased as we aimed to at a push maybe beat Boroughbridge at 4hr 45 so 4hr 25 we were very very chuffed with.

Brilliant vid of the run Daniel! Me and one of my friends are hopefully running it in a few weeks time. I was curious what sort of trainers you went for on the day? I've not managed to get many miles on the trails this year and when I have, it's been dry enough that my road shoes have done the job just fine so I'm half tempted to wear my road shoes and just dodge around the particularly muddy sections or at least take them slowly so I don't end up in a heap on ground. A good chunk of the off road sections in your footage looked hard packed enough that I could get away with this. Curious to know your thoughts!

Cheers, glad you enjoyed it. Trails are mostly really good but there is one section through hackfall woods that is really really muddy but probably only 5km of it. Ran the route again the other week as missing the race this year unfortunately and this stretch was really muddy again. Personally anything on trails I'd always wear trail shoes (peregrine's for me) but for the most part you'd probably get away with solid everyday road shoes. Good luck on the day, hope it goes well for you

I'll get a bit colder here than the Lot though!
