Man I just feel like Slay the Spire is inevitably harder because of the sheer amount of decisions you have to make. You have to make so many card choices, choose your path and when to use your potions. And then you have to time when you take elites, can you take one elite over the other, rest vs smith at shops. I feel like the skill ceiling is so high and someone who commentates on the reasons for their decisions would take much longer in explaining than in Wildfrost.
Maybe my opinion is affected by my experience in slay the spire but I feel like consistently making the right decision is difficult and takes a lot of skill. A lot of times the decisions I make in Wildfrost are intuitive and they kinda lead into each other. With Slay the Spire, I find it harder to see what impact the decisions i make now will have on those I will have to make later. Slay the spire is on my list of games to get back to cuz while I easily hit overcranked on Wildfrost, I'm struggling to pass A10 in StS
"Poker Quest" and "Aces & Adventures" are two neat deck builders. The former is more equipment builder, the latter more traditional roguelite deck builder. If you include dice games, you're already familiar with "Dicey Dungeons" and "Astrea." If you stop being a hater there's "Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale." If you want to get banned, "Take Me To The Dungeon" and "Aura: Hentai Cards."
Luck be a Landlord is an """deck builder""" where instead of an adventure, you build a slot machine, and each simple can give adjacency bonus, or destroi certans simbles for profit, or other simble interactions that make number go big. The first few "ascencion" floors are tutorial-like but as a baseline you unlock the bossfight at floor 4.
I think games that lean hard on randomization for replayability are really differentiated by variance. What makes Monster Train and Wildfrost more "consistent" is that you build up a board position, and on top of that, both games have draw priority mechanics. Cobalt Core is stabilized a lot by letting you retain dodge and shield between turns. Slay the Spire, meanwhile, is built on temporary block that mostly comes from cards that are randomly drawn, one-use potions with limited potion inventory, and persistent health. Because the variance is so high, playing the game well is mostly about optimizing probabilities. It's the same in Diablo-style clickers. Path of Exile allows modifiers to stack up endlessly on mobs, and the mods themselves are pretty swingy (not to mention that gear is all over the place). With something more sedate like Grim Dawn, you pretty much know what you're walking into. So I don't think it's the number of decisions that makes it harder, but the nature of the decisions. High variance means you're more likely to end up further away from the mean, so you have to work a lot harder to keep things consistent. On the other hand, the greater variability between runs, combined with the higher need to optimize, makes Path of Exile and Slay the Spire better games for streaming/RUclips.
I'd recommend adding vault of the void and chrono ark. Roguebook, arcanium, and trials of fire also come to mind. I feel like chrono ark gets slept on a ton for such a well put together game, it's been early access forever and is either out fully or very close to it and it has a lot of interesting mechanics, not to mention you have 2-4 party members as you progress the run which makes for interesting decisions in how you synergize. Cross blitz is a new and fun early access, but it's content is a little scarce for now. Definitely one to keep an eye on And if we're taking dice builders, astrea is actually really fun and didn't get as much attention as I expected
"wild frost and monster train are games where you can approach a near 100% win rate if you're really good". me- proud of my 10% winrate in monster train
Well if you're doing a deck builder pentathlon, I would present Ratropolis. It's where you got your start. I know it's a lot different now, but it could still be cool to see.
I watch Frost Prime play slay the spire and he has gone into so much detail on high difficulty runs. He is definitely the best to teach how to win in my opinion.
Once again checking in from my wifi-less domain. Really hoping that now that it's a new year and the holiday season is over, the Xfinity people will call soon. Started taking some courses again today, gotta get my grades up to reapply to the master's program I'm trying to get into. Hopefully I'll only need a few quarters to do that. Looking for part time work as well, gotta get that bread while I'm selling my soul to get a degree... ah well. Hope Voyix and comments are doing well.
When people ask for indie deckbuilders I usually always suggest Library of Ruina because it’s a really good game. Unfortunately that game is not fit for the pentathlon format at all since it doesn’t have runs and is instead a full campaign for like 60 hours. Still can recommend just as a game o play. For the pentathlon thing, maybe some Ratropolis? Or Nowhere Prophet?
Looking forward to seeing you stream again! Would love for you to check out my current favorite deck builder if you were lookin for stuff to try. Chrono Ark.
I know I suggested this before and this might sound like im being annoying, but if you have free time, try out tower escape, it a unique deck builder that I think you might like. Other than that, yeah, the returning of slay the spire should be fun.
Get better soon and please think about letting Slice & Dice have a special RUclips Cameo. Of course, only if you feel like playing it. I think it would be interesting to see you just play Loot mode for fun or something, without caring about winning. Atleast it would be fun for me.

There’s this really great deck builder I know of, it’s called cobalt core. Although it might be too hard for you. 😮
I would definitely include Inscryption Kaycee’s Mod in a Deckbuilder Pentathlon
"You wouldn't wanna sit down and watch a 4-6 hour video"
Oh well you underestimate us ...

I would like to call upon Dawncaster in the Deckbuilding pentathalon
The real pentathlon is "Not losing your mind doing 5 They Are Billions econ levels in a row"
but can you take the foxee and the wallop across the river without the foxee eating the wallop

If you need another deckbuilder you can play Across the Obelisk

I'd do StS, Monster Train, Wildfrost, Griftlands, Cobalt Core
Bro, you have hog charm, smack back, truffle tiny Tyko! Just play it man!
Although Foxee is always the correct choice 🤣🤣👌👌👍👍
Yeah, good news. Slightly less sick is already something. Immune system is finally manages the disease
Have you tried Alina of the Arena as a consideration for an indie binge?

my 5 indies would be enter the gungeon, dead cells, monster train, horizon chase turbo and one step from eden.

If you want to try something new for your deckbuilder-a-thon, maybe act 1 inscryption or rungore?
