As in so many Beethoven concertos, the soloist(s) must be an absolute virtuoso just to pull it off. What a lineup. Note that this piece is just over a half hour long but seems more than twice as long becuase its just so expansive The ending of the third movement just makes your hair stand up. One of Beethoven's greatest works. And the soloists are outstanding.
It is a wonderful performance. A few oddities: The cellist is not using a platform, as is customary; the pianist is using someone to assist with page turns; Steinbacher is wearing flat shoes; the conductor sometimes conducts as if he is directing a three-ring circus.
PENTATONE "Talented?" You are very modest in your description. Steinbacher is a gem of an artist - brilliant and possessed of wonderful sensitivity - not just a technician. And, of course, a treat to watch as well :-)
