This is the only shredder I have at this time. It’s not really strong enough to do much more than what I use it for. Thank you for the view and complement. I hope to eventually expand on this channel but life has been so busy lately. Keeping hope alive, maybe soon.
Nearly 750K views. I really need to make a better vid with a huge meltdown sometime. I have a lot of metal to melt. Thanks for everyone that subbed, watched and shared!!
Does that mean all cans, even beer? They charge us 10 cents per can and bottle deposit. Up to 20 cents on wine bottles. Up here in Ontario, Canada. But all refundable.
I'm sure you've probably heard of people turning in tabs for something or other to do with helping cancer research. I have a friend that turns them in for that very reason.
The shredder has been holding up remarkably well, the furnace I'm using started arcing and needed a replacement part. Since I am only home a couple of months out of the year it takes so long for correspondence with the place I bought it from (my fault). They sent a replacement no questions asked but it turns out a different part went bad so I may have to look into a new furnace because I have all sorts of extra aluminum. So yes that shredder is holding its own just fine.
I wouldn’t trust a shredder meant for under about 16 sheets. I really don’t think an eight page shredder will do it, if it does it will not last long. Even the 20 page that I use has had some difficulties after it started slowing down. If you do try it, I would be really interested to know though.
I did get some 24 ounce cans and in some of these videos those 16 ounce aluminum bottles get shredded. I don’t think I ever recorded any of the 24 ounce cans though.
Up to this point I have only used one shredder, it is a Royal. The full details are explained in my video about my shredder. It is still hanging in there after thousands of cans but it is slowly dying. Thank you for checking out the video and your comment!
When the cans are crushed if they're still tall like you just flattened them from the sides it can handle it. If they are crushed from top to bottom it backs up and retries 2-3 times before shredding them completely.
I did not make the shredder, I bought it. The details are in another video, it was around $140 USD if I remember correctly. It is a 20 page paper shredder, I just removed the top.
I think I will remove all the teeth off a course circular saw blade except one put those 2 blades together to make a larger version with a bigger motor than what's in the video
The main things I would suggest is get something with at least the capability to shred 16 pages, try to get something that cross cut shreds and it is a good idea to thoroughly rinse out every can and preferably let it dry before shredding. I did not always do that last part and others have put cans in so it has slowed down because it requires some cleaning.
No, this is the stock motor that came with it. I wish I could link the video but I saw a video where a 16 page shredder was able to do this. The only modification I did to it was remove the plastic casing so the cans could fit in there.
Neighbor threw out a paper shredder with a stripped plastic gear. I took it in and put a hand crank on it. I figure it would make the aluminum easier to melt later.
www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-24-Sheet-Cross-Cut-Shredder-Pullout/dp/B00HFJWMV4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1556507370&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6813748011&s=office-electronics&sr=1-1 It looks like it’s not even available on Amazon anymore, this is from a couple of years ago and BJ’s is just a wholesale club in the US. I sent a list of several shredders that should do the trick. It is very likely anything above 16 sheets will work just fine. Mine is just a 20 page shredder. It’s a regular paper shredder, nothing special. I only took the top off.
I could sell to a recycling place but this is a hobby of mine. I know I don’t have much to show for it on here yet but considering aluminum is the most prevalent metal on the planet I think building a little stockpile will not harm anyone. I guess I’m running a little refinery of my own at this point.
I had an electric furnace but it only lasted for maybe four uses. That dumb thing cost like $450. It was a Hardin. I am going to go pretty cheap for the melting, coming up soon I will just get some propane torches with some kind of set up to hold the crucible I have which is made of graphite. I have almost a dozen and a half ingots at this time.
Royal, it's an LR20MX. It's listed as a commercial shredder. It's a 20 page shredder. I got this from BJ's for about $140. Normally I buy things like this through Amazon but I kind of wanted it right then and there.
Thank you for subscribing! Running a pretty small channel so far and unfortunately I'm on the road until May but I should have more content shortly after my return home.
I always found it boring looking at the shredded cans and whatnot whenever I came across shredding videos so I did not show that until people requested it. There is a video that shows what I had gathered at that time.
I think you just saved me a ton of work designing my own shredder. Thanks!
Happy to help. :-)

I think it’s just a paper shredder u can probably do it yourself
It is just a 20 page shredder.
Awesome video. No slow mo., no replay. Really enjoyed it. Do upload more videos like shredding bottles, woods, cans, etc. Nice job.👍👍👍

Would be fun to make a mini scrapyard with all 3 stages (crusher, shredder, melter) like they do for cars but use non-deposit cans as the “cars”.
Its so satisfying 😂
It sort of has that quality. 🤣

That’s awesome! I noticed that the tabs weren’t on the cans. Why is that?

Sorry about that. I did not start out with an empty bin and I wasn’t sure if anyone cared to see the results. My bad.

Try 530k
Just curious, would it be able to shred crushed or bent cans, or do they have to be whole like that?
When the cans are crushed if they're still tall like you just flattened them from the sides it can handle it. If they are crushed from top to bottom it backs up and retries 2-3 times before shredding them completely.
Thanks for the quick reply. And great video btw.
Thank You.
Dr. Pepper reminds me of Stein's gate
Would it shred HDPE plastic bottles such as milk and juice bottles?
It does shred plastic bottles but they tend to get wrapped around the shredder wheels. It doesn’t seem to cross cut them very well.
Thanks I’m going to try a heavy duty kitchen blender

will recycling centers still pay for the shredded cans?
I'm sure they will pay the same, aluminum is aluminum after all. The shredding is just an easier way to fit it into my crucible to melt though.
do you have a separate motor running it?
No, this is the stock motor that came with it. I wish I could link the video but I saw a video where a 16 page shredder was able to do this. The only modification I did to it was remove the plastic casing so the cans could fit in there.
