    Yep, I can definitely echo this experience. My beautiful Maiden's Blush lost its pink tinges and I was not happy, so I took a few cuttings and potted those up, but then noticed that the leaves in the pot that I had taken cuttings from started to turn pink again. I had originally been worried that I was given them too much sunlight, but thankfully it has all turned out delightfully in the end! Incidentally, thank you for mentioning that there is a difference between Maiden's Blush and the Bride's Blush one, I had actually thought they were the same plant, but with different names.

    I believe it's about night/day temperature difference that happens on spring that makes Bride's/Maiden/s Blush get pink and white colour, the higher the difference, the more intensive colouring develops.

      I didn't know that. That's really useful to know. I haven't had a Tradescantia plant for a whole year yet so haven't witnessed it for myself. I should get some great colour next spring with the extremes of the greenhouse. 😁

      This is an old video but I think I'm talking about one particular hybrid - Tradescantia ‘Maiden’s Blush’ - which is green for most of the year - but needs a temperature change to start off again with new pink growth. It does work - I've experimented with it for several years and kept it green with steady temps, then pink again with a temp change - usually following a drop then a rise again. Then it turns green again for the rest of the year and looks very ordinary - if not downright ugly! But you're correct in that in general, Tradescantias have a LOT of variety in their leaf patterning.

Here's to waffling 😜🥂

    This is interesting. I was always told, and find online, that to keep the tricolor leaves it needed lots of bright light (but not direct sun). The opposite is what you recommend?

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  3 года назад +1

      Hi Claire. Trad. tricolor (not featured in this video) does need as bright light as possible (not direct sun through glass) - but...in time it will still revert to all green - unless you do something about it. I explain (and demo) what I did with mine here: ruclips.net/video/snI2otfy2TY/видео.html

    • @cmstrauss514
      @cmstrauss514 3 года назад +1

      @@Grow_Up_Man55 Thank you! Yes I’m noticing mine is reverting I can’t seem to find a good spot. Southern light is too strong and burns the leaves but anything else and it reverts.

    • @Grow_Up_Man55

      @@cmstrauss514 Just keep experimenting with aspect but crucially - pull off those green leaves and perhaps take some cuttings of the leaves you like for insurance.

    Great video!
    I have received some Wandering Jew Tricolour clippings. However 2 out of 3 clippings are baring all green leaves.
    Is it possible they will bare variegated again after rooting and proper care? Or will I have to patiently wait for my tiny (properly) variegated clipping to grow, and propagate more? Thank you very much for your time.

    • @Grow_Up_Man55

      Thanks Jane. I haven't actually had any Tradescantia for a full year yet, so I'm (im)patiently waiting to see what happens in Spring - but in my experience of other plants that have 'reverted' to green, I'd speculate it's highly unlikely they'll develop a variegation again. Your best bet would be to take some cuttings from the variegated plant to increase your stock. Hope that helps.

    My Tradescantia is this silver purple/green type and this doesn’t link as much with what was said in the video but my leafs on the plant grow deformed and have full of holes and crinkles, what can I do to stop this? It’s growing very quick and healthily but the leafs look weird, been looking everywhere and can’t get answers. Great vid btw!

      Thanks for the vote of confidence Gareth - always appreciated. I can't recall what was in this video as it's an old one, but it was just one step on the way to my developing understanding of Tradescantia, and I may have changed my mind on a few things now, having lived with them and grown them for some time now. I think if you watched my recent one on these plants (from a week ago) it will help you to solve your issues with how they're growing for you. I'm sure this will help. Let me know how it goes. Wait, I'm confused, less or more sun for pink variegation? I got tradescantia tricolor cuttings and for now they just look green and white with the underside very purple. I have them under grow lights, the girl I got them from didn't and said to not expect much pinkness, but I thought that was because she didn't have enough light on them (but not sure about this, was just an exchange with a stranger); Could you help me please? I thought they would be green and pink on top?

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  3 года назад

      All pink leaved varieties of Tradescantia fluminensis will produce the pink leaves every spring - but over the next few months those leaves will turn green. Strong sun through glass will speed up this process. There is nothing you can do to make the pink return - it will only happen the following spring. If you pinch the plant out now you may be lucky to still get a few new pink growths from the base of the plant - but they won't be as good as the original spring growth and they too will turn green. This has been my experience in my environment - you may get different results in yours!

  • @Theta.lup008

    Can I still get pink leaves if all the plant has now turned green? I was worried it didn't get enough sun and pushed for more chlorophyll like with most variegated plants

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  3 года назад

      All the Trad. Fluminensis varieties that have a pink flush then turn green, will eventually get new pink leaves again - but they only do it once a year unfortunately. For the rest of the time they just produce glossy green leaves. All of mine are currently growing new pink leaves and look great - no matter if they've been kept cool or warm - same result.

      I put mine under direct sunlight and turned all green. Then put it inside home near a window and some leaves are getting white spots
