Must have Geist und Zeele...cantata 35. The minor key and the mezzo soprano/contralto voice are a magical combination....suggest the late Maureen Forrester’s......Beautiful.
The Scherchen recording, with Cantata 42. A Great recording. Harnoncourt, much as I love him, should have been made to walk the plank for getting children to sing some of the greatest music ever written. Most of them sound like they might as well be eating porridge...

felixzalty it was published. Remember listening to it in 2013 but then it got removed and i lost my favourite Aria cos I only knew it through that list.

Yes, I have many. Your selection is dull and flat, IMHO.
I think Bach is ALWAYS a genius. No matter which piece we are listening!

@@alexreik424 I have never been to an English speaking country and I acknowledge that my sentence wasn't gramatically correct. I didn't intend to offend you, it's just interesting that each person has different taste and I don't even know whether my musical taste is "good". I like most Bach's Lutheran masses and Motets. I also had a selection of my favourite cantatas but RUclips blocked it.

It is a truth not universally acknowledged that with the cantatas, say, at least 90% of them, it is individual movements - arias, choruses, duets, &c - that one remembers and which make or break the work - with tons of dreary recitative and chorale as wearisome padding ... However, there are a handful of cantatas that are 'all good' with consistently enjoyable music all the way through . One is BWV 63 where even the recits are tolerable
Why don’t you fancy the chorales? I can understand that a lot of recitatives are a bit boring to listen to sometimes, but the chorales are deeply spiritually connected to this awesome liturgical music of sacred cantatas, which are almost all of them of the highest order, in my view.
@@ollehedstrom3536 I just don't like them. Music ultimately is a personal thing - one can argue back and forth but beyond a certain point discussion becomes sterile
@Andrew Ashdown: Couldn't agree more. Not sure about BWV 63 either. 134a etc is more to my liking .To the best of my knowledge the Bundestag has not yet made it mandatory to like all of Bach's output, the cantatas requiring a particularly contemplative frame of mind to appreciate. Bach's no greater melodist here than in his towering Passions... where the supreme qualities of stupendous harmony in the choruses and the noble chorales have to co- exist with dreary solo recitals.
@@shadbolt4687 At least now we are clear of the 'warblers' - soloists who think they're on an opera stage - and out of tune scritchy-scratchy strings. The music comes alive with disciplined singing and crisp accompaniment ... for me Suzuki and Herreweghe are the best, most others woeful and indeed disrespectful of the music. I would pick 39, 42, 66, 70, 71, 137, 180, 182 among my favourite
You have to got some balls to give anything by Bach a 7, even if you rate any other composer at 5 or 6 tops.
